good monday morning. i'm matt gutman. and i'm reena ninan. breaking news from iraq, secretary of state john kerry landed to hold high-level meetings with the country's leaders. >> it's as more cities fall under military control. we have the latest. >> reporter: the u.s. is hoping that the iraqi government can unite the factions and stop the violence. >> this is a critical moment to urge iraq's leaders to rise above sectarian motivations. >> but isis fighters gained ground. capturing four towns over the weekend, and closing in on a city on the border. they could grab key water displays and damage the electricity grid. thousands of young iraqis are

washington. thank you. and israel is striking back after an attack overnight. they carried out a series of air strike this is morning, hitting nine targets inside syria. retaliation for the cross-border missile strike yesterday that killed a teenager. it was unprovoked and they said it will not be tolerated. now to the world cup and wild swings of emotions for team usa fans. >> there were wild celebrations when they took the lead, but then portugal struck back to tie the match at two. >> and paula faris watched the match in rio. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. what a thriller last night in manaus. the u.s. had it all but one until the final seconds of the game. american spirit never gives up.

this team didn't either, they never led until the 81st minute when clint dempsey gave them a 2-1 lead. and kris cristiano rinaldo, had his chances, couldn't take advantage. and jones, took advantage, and jones scores. that's his first-career world cup goal. that tied it, and as we showed you, dempsey scored the go ahead goal. but with 30 seconds remaining, you could hear hearts breaking around the world. i'm sure they were breaking in new york city tonight. this happened, portugal, on the brink, scoring the game-tying equalizing goal. that's two-all. that mean's thursday's game against germany is of utmost importance. but team usa can advance to round two with a win or a draw against the germans.

years, even though meteorologists expect a short break in the weather today, the rivers are rising. and more heavy rain today from minneapolis to the gulf coast into the southeast. eastern colorado may see some severe storms. the east will be warmer with a cooler weekend. most of the south will be in the 90s, and the great lakes, and temperatures from the 70s to the 90s on the west coast. and a fast-burning brush fire in the hot, dry south california mountains. it spread to 150 acres. several trapped hikers had to be air lifted. no evacuation orders issued so far, but some families left on their own. plans to transport immigrants to california for processing are on hold. the border patrol canceled the flight, no reason was giving.

the processing facilities in south texas have been overwhelmed by immigrants, many of them children from south america. and bowe bergdahl is getting outpatient care after leaving the hospital. he's having exposure to more people and gradual increase in social interaction. he was freed in a controversial prison swap in the end of may. three men who broke out of quebec jail are due in court today. they were captured yesterday. the men were captured in a tenth floor upscale hotel this month. and it triggered an international man hunt. search for the mission, california fire fighter is being scaled up after a week of searching. in rough terrain. but his dog, duke, has been found in the parking lot where he parked his car. he was in good health, and an experienced outdoorsman, herdman

disappeared ten days ago. and tweeting these, pictures from a scene of a fire. three homes are destroyed, but several animals have been rescued, including a dog that walked out of a charred home an hour after the flames were put out. and coming up, it's pricey to raise a child. but which gender is better for your bank account. >> i have a guess. plus a day of yard work after a man is hit by litigatening. >> and no boat, and several miles offshore, how a couple was saved after treading water for 14 hours.

. well, your morning starbucks coffee may be more expensive. the company will raise prices tomorrow anywhere from 5 to 20 cents. the packaged coffee in the supermarkets getting more expensive, a dollar per bag. no reason was given. coffee bean prices are up, but that's a small part of their overhead. and the dow set a record friday, closing just short of 17,000. the s&p 500 closed at a new high. investors are optimistic, especially after the federal reserve said interest rates will remain low. this week, we'll get several reports on the housing market. and a big auto recall announced overnight. nissan and honda. more than 2 million vehicles worldwide being recalled to fix

looking at this video, it's hard to believe no one was hurt. only the driver and the passenger were aboard this transit bus when it caught fire. both escaped. no word on what caused fire on interstate 88. the problem this morning won't be fire, but water. watch out for flooding on the roads in the midwest and the south. highways in the great lakes region and upper plains will also be wet. if you're flying, airport delays are possible in denver, dallas and detroit. and now to a near-tragedy in georgia. a man walks away after getting hit by lightning. >> sean oh connor was raking leaves when a bolt of lightning struck him in the foot knocking him out of his boots. he thought he was hit by a tree limb.

but saw the steel-toe boots ripped open and shouldering. >> i had blood in my mouth, i felt like i had a real bad sunburn. this was the boot. >> he was in pain, and by the time he was at the hospital, his heart rate dropped, but he went home the next day. >> you could say he was lead-footed. and an incredible rescue after a couple fell off their boat into the atlantic with no one around for miles. they managed to stay alive for nearly 14 hours while treading water. the couple drifted from key largo before being rescued by surprised fisherman 75 miles north. they were weak and dehydrated. >> personally, i was surprised conce -- i was amazed they were surviving that long. >> maybe god put us there to save them. >> the couple did not have the

life jackets on when they fell off. the boat was in high gear and drifted away. a wild car chase in texas after a father and daughter took off after blarps they were pulling up to their house when they noticed a red pickup truck backing out of their driveway. they decided to chase the men. at one point the truck backed into them, and turned around and crashed into the family head on. the two suspects were arrested, the father and daughter are okay. hope solo, will be in a courtroom near seattle today. she spent the weekend in jail on suspicion of assaulting her sister and nephew early saturday morning. her attorney says she was injured in an unfortunate incident. she has participated in abc's dancing with the stars. and michelle wie is a u.s.

is now back home with a family that never gave up hope of finding her. more from george warren in sacramento. >> reporter: the story is as sweet as amazing. >> the stories she could tell. >> reporter: the bronze family said they have proof that the dog they brought home is the same that they lost over a year and a half ago. the family posted fliers, and through two winters held out hope that somehow murphy would be found. the break came a week ago saturday when the family heard that a golden retriever had been seen wandering around this camp ground. they came up with the blanket and the ball cap. jason smith placed them on the camp site, and was astonished by what happened next, and every night last week. >> the very first night i laid it out, i got up in the rv,
