>> good morning, it's 5:30 on this tuesday, june 24th. >> matt o'donnell is off. erin o'hearn is joining us. let's go right over to meteorologist, david murphy and to karen rogers. taking a look at your weather and traffic. good morning. >> and our satellite image this morning is showing some more clouds spilling across pennsylvania than what we had yesterday. and you see some breaks in the east so i think we'll see some early sunshine. as the day goes on there's the chance that we start to gather a few more clouds into the region and late tonight there could be some of that shower activity that you see out by pittsburgh slipping through in a couple spots. 67 degrees and dry right now though in philadelphia and feeling fairly comfortable once again this morning. 65 in wilmington, 67 in allentown, 62 in trenton and still holding onto 70's it's a both the boardwalk in atlantic city and down the coast in sea isle city. if you're headed out this morning, look for at least partly cloudy skies. some of you may see more sun than others. 66 by 6 o'clock and by 8 o'clock we're expecting a temperature of about 70 so the numbers do inch upward pretty quickly this morning once again. 72 by 9:00. by noon looks like we'll be up to about 80 and then 84 by 3

o'clock. your high today is 85, probably slipping that in right about there at 4 o'clock and by 6 o'clock, still holding onto the low 80's. clouds are liable to gather a bit as the day goes on and it may feel a bit more humid as the afternoon comes in versus where we were yesterday but not oppressive today. karen humidity did raise tomorrow or rise i guess is the word and we may also get some drenching showers and thunderstorms at times. i'll have details on that coming up. >> so much you have to look forward to. well, for now we've got a dry morning commute. no problems out there. this is your new traffic pattern we've been talking about on i-95 southbound at girard and we can see traffic moving fine right now. the overnight construction is clear so no delays coming in from bucks county or northeast philadelphia just yet. on the big picture in center city we've been talking about the steam leak from last night. thirteenth street blocked between arch and race. stick to 11th street or broad street to get you around that. your bridge overview going up at 5:45, the burlington bristol, the tacony palmyra, the opening there is finished so things are looking good

right now. you're in the clear so the tacony and betsy ross no problem and construction continues with one lane blocked westbound on the commodore barry until september 1st. you've got awhile longer dealing with that. we're in new jersey, that's the 42 freeway northbound traffic no delay just yet. construction cleared southbound so you're good to go in jersey, tam. >> thank you, karen. we're following a developing story out of west philadelphia. police have rounded he plea men who they are calling persons of 90 connection with the robbery and deadly shooting of a man. police were called to the 5900 block of market street around 9:30 last night. when they arrived at the scene they found a 29-year-old man lying in the street under the market street el and he had been shot twice. officers rushed him to the hospital but he died. but on his way to the hospital, he told police that three men jumped him robbed him then shot him and drove off in a white minivan. officers found a white minivan at 59th and market with the keys still in it. investigators say city surveillance cameras in the area captured some of the crime. they also want to get video

from a private camera outside of a bar. also developing at this hour, the search for the masked robber who held up a local 7-eleven at gun point. the action cam on the scene at the 5800 block of rising sun avenue in the kressonville section of philadelphia around 2:00 this morning. the robber stole about $200. no one was physically hurt. philadelphia police moving quickly in their efforts to get a rapist off the streets. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in hunting park with an update on this investigation. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and police say they've been aggressively pursuing this case and yesterday they took several men into custody from a home in south philadelphia. they took them here to the special victims units and only "action news" was there yesterday in south philadelphia when that raid happened on the 1800 block of south eighth street and those men were taken in for questioning. around 1:20 saturday morning surveillance video captured the moment a man secured his bike and walked up behind the 26-year-old doctor from the

hospital of the university of pennsylvania as she was returning home after a night with friends. police say the suspect strong armed the victim into her apartment building, forced her into her apartment and then repeatedly raped her. he left and then minutes later returned, assaulted her again and grabbed the messenger bag he had left behind. police released two composite sketches of the rapist who took off with her keys and iphone and sources say police raidd that home in south philadelphia on south eighth street after they got a ping there off the victim's phone. investigators took evidence from the home including a bicycle. police say the person behind this rape is dangerous and that his actions send that message loud and clear. >> the fact that he would take chances and exposure, being seen by others, the fact that he would enter a property where there were multiple occupants, the fact that he would remain there and possibly return a second time says something about the

boldness. >> reporter: and police say they did get a lot of tip calls from this case. again, they also got that ping from the victim's stolen cell phone but so far this morning they're not officially commenting on those men they took into custody. we're live in hunting park, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> okay, katherine, thanks so much for that report. a robber is dead because he decided to target the wrong philadelphia store owner. a former city cop and u.s. secret service agent. yesterday afternoon, the man walked into the stan's health foods store on the 7100 block of frankford avenue in mayfair. he pulled a knife on the 46-year-old store owner, sharon doyle, and said he was robbing the place. police say when the suspect put the knife up against doyle's chest, she pulled a revolver and opened fire. the suspect was pronounced dead at a hospital last night as doyle closed the store she said she was grateful to be alive. >> i just did what i had to do, that's it. >> do you think your law enforcement training was

involved in acting quickly today. >> i think it didn't hurt and i think this helped me the most. >> and there she is referring to a guardian angel pendant that her mother gave her years ago. police say the man she shot had a long rap sheet and was just recently released from prison. workers spent the day cleaning up a synagogue rhawnhurst after vandals spray painted swastikas on the property. crews power washed the marks off. police are looking through surveillance from cameras installed last week. >> it is now 5:36. and we have a developing story out of the middle east. officials say a suicide bomber in lebanon set off a device at a check point in southern beirut. they killed a security officer and wounded 20 other people. this is the second explosion in a week and this violence is coming in the middle of all of that widening tension and neighbor -- in neighboring iraq. and secretary of state

john kerry is in the kurdish region of iraq today to try to broker is deal that would end the bloodshed that is spreading in that country. yesterday kerry gave the iraqi government leaders in baghdad a blunt warning. he told them if you cannot broker a deal with the sunni minority the government here will be in collapse. meantime the brutality in the country is increasing. there are new reports that isis led sunni extremists have butch cherried 15 civilians including women and children. shiite backed iraqi police officers have reportedly shot to death dozens of sunni prisoners. >> 5:37 now. rising waters and severe storms are causing problems for many parts of the country. a tornado sheared the roof off a a home in brunswick ohio. at least 10 homes were damaged. no serious injuries were reported. elsewhere parts of minnesota are still under water. many rivers and lakes in minnesota are rising to historic levels following drenching rains. flooding is also a concern in

iowa and in texas. >> wow, look at that. let's take a look at some accuweather for around here. >> we're looking okay today. >> okay. >> a bit more humid perhaps as the day goes on. tomorrow stickier and we're going to have some showers. storm tracker 6 live double scan says no showers right now, though. as we take a look outside we've got sun coming up over the horizon and there's the ben franklin bridge. nice -- almost need sunglasses just to look at this picture, right. got a couple highlights as we look ahead towards the forecast. first it's still decent out there today. we're going start out with some sunshine, probably see some more clouds build. it might get a bit more humid but it's not going to be oppressive. so today is not bad. wednesday when we'll have a cold front coming through it's going to be much more humid and we could get some drenching downpours at least in a couple spots during the afternoon and evening. for now, temperatures 67 degrees, dewpoint still below that 60-degree threshold for what we consider humid air. and the winds are light out of the south-southwest at 5 miles per hour. satellite shows you a lot more cloud cover out there to our west. really pushing toward the east and why we will get some

sunshine early. i could see clouds getting a little bit thicker as the day goes on. some of the shower activity might pop up late tonight with just a stray shower around tonight, okay? for today, 70 degrees by 8 o'clock. by 11:00 you're already up into the upper 70's. i would say this is the time of day to get out there and exercise or do whatever you want to do because later today it will get warmer. 2 o'clock 84 degrees. 85 is your high at about 4 o'clock today and then we'll be still hugging close to that by 5 o'clock. again, clouds getting a little bit thicker and as the day goes on there's the chance of a little bit of a rise in humidity over what we had yesterday. not bad, though t high temperatures across the region fairly even once again from allentown down to millville, dover and toms river. down by the shore, a little warmer than yesterday, getting anywhere from 78 in cape may up to about 80 on the beach in atlantic city. maybe a bit humid as the day goes on. and tonight at the phillies, not too bad a night for a ball game. clouds will be fairly thick i think. should be mild. 80 degrees for the first pitch and 74 the ninth inning.

might feel a bit muggier at the ballpark tonight than last flight. then tomorrow clouds in the morning and by about lunchtime or so we could see the development of some sprinkles and showers and later in the afternoon and evening there is the chance of at least some spotty downpours from some showers or perhaps a couple of thunderstorms, okay, 'cause it is going to be kind of saturated and humid tomorrow. a lot of juice in the atmosphere to work with as a cold front comes in. today a mix of sun and clouds, 85 degrees is the high. the union may be a little bit muggy tonight but dry looking pretty good for that u.s. cup match against the cosmos and 86 is the high tomorrow. now, tomorrow it will feel a lot more humid in the morning and then during the afternoon we'll have that chance of a shower and perhaps a couple of spotty drenching downpours. now on thursday ity it now looks as though there could be a morning shower lingering. by the afternoon we expect the return of sunshine and a high of 87. friday looks very warm with that 88 but the humidity should be lower. for the weekend, mid 80's on saturday and sunday. and slight chance of a pop-up thunderstorm on saturday. i think most of you do not see

>> ♪ >> welcome back. you're taking a live look here down the shocks cape may, it's beautiful. down the shocks cape may, it's to your tuesday. >> and no shore traffic probably this morning but karen's got the report in the suburbs, right? >> that's right. monday mornings are always the toughest morning for coming what tock work from the shore. time for the suburban traffic report right now. we have a new accident coming in to us in cheltenham. cheltenham avenue and coventry so watch for this. it's our only accident of the morning so far. let's go outside live and show you what it looks like right now. this is lionville chester county route 100 at 113 where traffic is moving fine right now but from 9 o'clock until 3 o'clock today as well as overnights during the week one

lane will be opened each way, only one lane open in dietch each direction because of the construction. that one is going to get you. it doesn't start for a few more hours in lionville. let's go back to the maps. northeast extension northbound we've got construction past lansdale blocking the right lane. also construction past quakertown so in both cases blocking the right lane. you can see speeds like skyline right now so not causing a big problem. here in delaware county we had construction that just started yesterday and it's going to last all week so you want to watch for this. they're closing down eagle road between radnor and paul road. it lasts from 9:00 until 2:00. stick to upper gulph road to avoid any delay with that one. lots of construction out there this morning. time for your commuter traffic report which you can be a part of when you download the free waze app. i've got it right here. we're scanning around the region and not finding too many issues out there. we're looking in blue bell, east norriton, upper merion and really not finding any problems. a vehicle stopped on the side of the road. that's not a big deal on the schuylkill eastbound. so look for that in lower

merion but not too many issues as you're leaded out the door. the temperatures 67 degrees. we've got some sunshine out there. maybe a little sun glare later on but other than that you're good to go otherwise. nothing affecting the roads erin. >> thanks karen. new dramatic video from overnight. firefighters rescued a 16-year-old stuck on a mountain in phoenix, arizona. rescuers attached a larn necessary to the victim and helped rappel him down the mon taken. he's okay. the teen was caught on a rocky part of that mountain. a texas police officer responding to the report of a woman lying on railroad tracks got there just in the nick of time. watch this video. newly released dash cam video shows the officer arriving at the railroad crossing early sunday morning. he pulls un, runs onto the tracks and you can see him there drag the woman away. moments later the train sped past them. fortunately neither the officer nor the woman was hurt. >> great job, officer.

happening today the ntsb is expected to reveal the official cause of the deadly asianian in a airlines crash at the san francisco international airport. the board will hold a meeting to vote on what likely led to the crash that left three people dead and 200 people injured last july. federal investigators have said inexperience in the cockpit contributed to the crash but safety officials were weigh whether plain manufacturer boeing create add system that was too complicated for the pilots to understand. boeing has denied any fault. sarah murnaghan and her family celebrating a victim. the national transplant board has permanently add cottman avenued a rule giving children like sarah a better slot at adult lung. last year the plush hasn'ts challenged the rule there sarah could only get pediatric lungs. she's breathing on her own and enjoying normal activities like any other kid. >> good for her. a new report says the jerry sandusky investigation did take longer than it should have.

pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane commissioned the report. it found no political motives behind the delays. the report cites a lack of communication between county prosecutors, child welfare services and the state attorney general's office under tom corbett. it says prosecutors waited too long to search sandusky's home. >> when the search finally did happen it uncovered and questionablely valuable evidence including photographs of sandusky victims and lists of second mile campers with asterisks next to some of their names. >> why did this take so long? >> cane also alleged two children were sexually assaulted while state prosecutors handled the case. she did not elaborate and prosecutors said the allegations were not true. >> it's 5:48 now and new jersey's gamble on sports betting runs into some overwhelming odds at the supreme court. >> plus, a north dakota coffee shop decides to make its >>

the afternoon does look warm, 84 by 3 o'clock and your high today is going to be 85 degrees. we'll hit that at about 4:00 this afternoon. might feel a little bit more humid today, tam, but not horrible. >> okay, thank you, david. this is from our new jersey bureau. toms river police say a man matching the sketch tried to lure a young boy from his front yard. it happened friday afternoon along terrace avenue near merion street. the boy's under a says a man in an suv drove up and said to the boy "come on, i got candy." she ran over and the man drove off. if you have any information please contact toms river police by phone or through facebook. the supreme court has said no to sports betting in new jersey. justices stood by a lower court ruling that struck down a garden state law. the ruling said the law conflicts with the federal mandate that limits sports betting to nevada and three other states. governor chris christie led the appeal. he said that he wanted to limit illegal gambling and push some of that cash into state coffers. new jersey says illegal spots

found an eight month old baby girl who i was was abduct fred a houston texas gas station. a jogger first spotted the infant sleeping insides of her car seat on the side of the road. her mother had reported her missing after her car was stolen with the baby still inside. houston police are now looking for the man responsible for stealing the car. if they catch him, he'll also be charged with kidnapping. the philadelphia va medical center says it is taking more steps to improve patient's access to care at the facility. the acting secretary of veterans affairs, sloane gibson, announced the changes yesterday. among them, new appointment slots have been created by expanding hours to includes evenings and weekends. additional staffing have been hired and the medical center is using contracts with community partners to schedule vets waiting to be seen by doctors. >> 5:57 now. when we come back vitamin
