some precipitation out to the west of us. the big story this morning ahead of all of this feels really muggy. in fact, it's going to stay on the oppressively humid side today unfortunately. this afternoon we'll see a little bit of this shower activity. later tonight there will be some heavy drenching thunderstorms with lots of lightning, mostly in the northern and western suburbs. 72 degrees right now and muggy in philadelphia. 72 in wilmington. in fact, the last couple of mornings we've only been in the 60's at this time of the morning but holding onto the low 70's in most spots. as you head out the door looks low 70's in most spots. 70 by 6 o'clock. by 8 o'clock we're probably up to the mid 70's. as we go through the day we continue to see those numbers go up. by noon up to the mid 80's. in fact i could see hitting 80 as early as about 10 o'clock this morning so a real charge in the numbers. it does look like the clouds get a little thicker as the day goes on and while there is the chance of a spotty shower in the afternoon, say, 3 o'clock where we've got a temperature of 87, we probably don't see a whole lot of

thunderstorm activity until later in the afternoon or perhaps at night and the best chance of numerous storms would be in the northern and western suburbs late today and tonight. today's high is 88 degrees. we'll probably hit that around 4:00. again, it is going to be very muggy. tam, when we come back we'll have more on future tracker 6 showing you where these storms are going to go and when they arrive and what comes next in that accuweather 7-day. >> thank you david. new this morning two police officers an firefighter suffered smoke inhalation while evacuating a family from a fire. viewer video shows the flames late last night along the 600 block of kaighn avenue in camden. the fire started in an abandoned home. a scatter there was injured and flown to temple's burn unit for treatment. firefighters and police helped the family next door evacuate but that family was able to return to their home. the firefighter was treated at the scene. two police officers were taken to the hospital to be checked out. also new this morning, philadelphia police are trying to figure out if two teens who were shot were targeted or just innocent victims. the 14-year-old and the

15-year-old are now in stable condition. "action news" reporter katherine scott joins us live from police headquarters with this investigation. katherine. >> reporter: that's right, tam, nearly a dozen shots were fired and police are trying to figure out what these teens involvement was in all of this, if they were targeted or if they were hit by stray bullets but this all remains under investigation this morning. both teens are in stable condition. this all happened last night in grays ferry around 10 o'clock. police were told by that 15-year-old victim that he was riding his bike in the area of the 1600 block of south 30th street when the shots were fired. that 15-year-old said that he heard multiple gun shots and the next thing he knew, that he was hit in his hand and grazed in his thigh. he continued riding to his grandmother's house which is about a half a block away and that's where police picked him up and took him to chop. the 14-year-old boy was grazed in his shoulder. he lived nearby and managed to make it home. that's where police found him. he was also taken to the

hospital and police are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. >> based on ballistic evidence we know that at least 11 shots were fired. we found 11 spender shell casing on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of south 30th street so we know at least seven shots were fired from a semi-automatic gun. >> reporter: and police are now looking for surveillance footage in the area hoping it can give them a better description of the gunman. we're live at police headquarters, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." erin. >> thanks katherine. another new story this morning, a driver in delaware could face dui charges after crashing into a house. it happened around 2:00 this morning in the 2800 block of paris road in tysons corner. police say the driver lost control, ran off the road, then hit a stone embankment plowing into the front porch of the house. the house was moderately damaged. no one was seriously injured. police say the driver is being tested for drugs and alcohol.

an illegal immigrant is behind bars charged with the weekend rape and home invasion of a 26-year-old doctor in center city. investigators say milton garcia had the victim's keys on him and her phone in his house. detectives got a ping from the cell which led them to the south philadelphia home where the suspect lived with other illegal immigrants. milton was working as a part time kitchen employee at a indian restaurant. his position didn't require any customer interaction. police say the honduran man who was deported last year and somehow returned to the united states also worked as a delivery man at two other businesses. >> philadelphia police and the fbi need your help identifying a would be bank robber. this man tried to hold up the credit union in there mayfair section of philadelphia yesterday morning. investigators say he walked into the bank on frankford avenue at 11:46 and handed the teller a demand note. also in northeast philadelphia, suspected bank

robber hitched a ride on a septa bus trying to flee the crime scene. officers respond d to a robbery at the wells fargo branch on roosevelt boulevard and welsh road yesterday afternoon. they got word that someone matching the description was riding on septa. police stopped the bus at roosevelt boulevard and cottman avenue and arrested the suspect. police say they recovered $500 stolen in the holdup. >> a major drug ring operating in berks county is now out of business. authorities announce the arrest of 48 people during an undercover investigation known as operation tourniquet. they say the drug network sold heroin, cocaine, meth, marijuana and prescription meds throughout the county. detectives also seized assault rifles, shot guns and other semi automatic weapons. we set up a slide show of suspect mugshots on our web site, 6abc.com. delaware governor jack markell will sign into law a bill that will make it easier for communities to get a life

saving drug. the drug is naloxone also called narcan. police officers and other first responders travel with the drug and administer it in emergencies. a pilot program in new jersey has been credited with saving 40 lives. the delaware law will help the state's communities get the drug at no or very low cost. the u.s. department of education has given the state of delaware a failing grade when it comes to teaching its special needs students. the department said the state's doing such a poor job teaching the students that it may need the federal government to step in. california, texas and the district of columbia are also on that list. the feds say telling wear and the other failing states are not setting a high enough bar for what special needs students should be expected to learn. tam. >> thank you, erin. going on to your first look at business. a new study is out from the university of michigan and it says that the gap between the rich and the poor is only growing. listen to this. last year the richest

>> new video this morning shows a lightning strike at yellowstone national park i n wyoming caught on camera. watch closely. it happens quick. watch closely. shooting a hail storm with his point and shoot camera when the bolt hit the ground -- there it is again. when the bolt hit the ground just a few feet away. still pictures taken moments later show the deep scars left by the lightning strike and how close it came to those campers. that is scary. hopeful that guy got out of there. >> he shouldn't have been

outside shooting that. >> i agree. >> that does give you an idea about how when you're near a tree the lightning goes sideways along ground a lot of time. storm tracker 6 live double scan, speaking of lightning we're probably going to see a lot of it later tonight particularly in the northern and western suburbs. right now we're dry and tranquil. the big issue this morning as you head out is how muggy it is and that humid air is going to be hanging around all day long and right into the evening. temperature right now is already 72 in philadelphia. your dewpoint up into the mid 60's so it's more humid than it was yesterday afternoon by quite a bit. the winds out of the south at seven continuing to draw that humid air in from the south and so we're stuck with it all day and into tonight. wednesday's look on future tracker 6 slows that you between now and noon we're not looking at a lot of precipitation. we'll have a fair amount of cloud cover with some sun digging in. there could be a spotty shower and that chance exists through the afternoon but most of you most of the time are going to be dry.

notice how in the northern and western areas, though, outside of our region by 5 o'clock we are looking at some pretty good showers and thunderstorms beginning to build in and it looks like as we go through the evening and nighttime most that of activity is centered in the northern and western suburbs. by 11 o'clock, it's probably starting to push out of here but any of the thunderstorms that do pop up in those northern and western areas later tonight will be drenchers, okay. so, most of the activity today will be in the evening. might get a shower during the day but the thunderstorms are mainly at night, mainly north and west. a quick 2-inches of rain is possible from these in less than an hour so that's the potential of localized flooding certainly if you do get one of these and we're expecting these to produce frequent lightning. so, the northern and western suburbs in particular looking at that later tonight. the other issue today is the oppressive humidity. it is going to be to feel pretty bad for most of the day. eventually we expect those dewpoints to get up to about 70 or maybe even higher and that's what we consider oppressive air, okay. so, look for that during the

day. 70 degrees by 8 o'clock. if you want to get any exercising in, it's muggy out there but at least it's not too hot right now and in through the early hours. by 11 o'clock up to 77 and i can see us hitting 80 pretty quickly today and the high temperature today is actually going to be about 88 degrees. the highs across its region all pretty high on the thermometer. 84 in allentown, 85 in trenton. closer to 90 in philadelphia and wilmington. down the shore closer to 80 degrees today but muggy at the shore as well. and at the ball game tonight it's also going to be very muggy. a spotty storm is possible but again with most of this action north and west of philadelphia i think the phillies will get their game in. plan on buying some cool drinks because it is going to be on the sweaty side. your seven-day, 88 today, humid conditions out there and a shower possible in the afternoon with most of our thunderstorms north and west later tonight. still unsettled on thursday the way things look now. there could be a spotty shower or a thunderstorm left over as the front that comes through today doesn't really go all that far away from us and then

there's a little low riding along it keeping us unstable so 87 is the high. probably still a bit muggy. and then friday sunny and warm, a high of 86 but the humidity does ease back. improvement for saturday in the seven day forecast f85 degrees. accuweather says we'll be mostly sunny and dry, no chance of a shower anymore: and on sunday clouds and sun, a high of 86 and there's a slight chance of a pop-up shower or a thunderstorm there and look at tuesday. it does look like the 90's are coming back. >> yikes. thank you, david. >> yeah. >> all right. it is now 4:46 and dangerous storms are moving across the country this morning. they've already caused a lot of damage in places like indiana where people are picking up after a tornado. they're -- there are also concerns about the rising mississippi. abc's tahman bradley has the latest. >> tornado. look at it. >> reporter: frightening moments as an ef1 tornado ripped through the indianapolis area. it sent residents racing for safety. downed trees and obliterated homes in this subdivision. >> we heard the warnings on the radio and everything and

we were under our staircase. >> all of a sudden i heard a lot of banging and rattling so i headed downstairs to get to an interior part of the house. >> reporter: the 100-mile per hour wind was so violent it lifted an rv and slung it into this house. denver was rocked with severe thunderstorms and hail. this is some of what was left behind. in fort worth, texas, flash flooding, cars floating on streets. across the midwest, rivers are on the rise. in minnesota it's a race against time as the state copes with historic flooding, a state of emergency has been declared in 35 counties. this is what the city of waterville looks like from the air, entire neighborhoods under water. >> a lot of human surge it's very painful and yet people are very resilient. >> reporter: the mississippi river is swollen. now 5 feet above flood stage. >> it's devastating. think of the cleanup they're going to have.

>> good morning. looking at some traffic right now. this is 95 nearly allegheny avenue you can see the cones this is 95 nearly allegheny two right lanes on the southbound side but those views should be picking up those cones soon. for now stay to the left as you come from the betsy ross bridge and expect a little bit of slowing until that overnight work is out of there. let's go to exton, chester county, route 100 at commerce drive. overnight construction just north of here on 100 is gone but further north in pottstown emergency work is following an earlier truck fire and that's blocking all northbound lanes at shoemaker road and karen is going to have more on that coming up. david. >> all right, on flight tracker this morning we've got

1300 flights or so in the air across the country t the only delays right now are in dallas and houston where you might be able to make out a little cluster of thunderstorms in both of those areas but the faa says delays are down to about 15 minutes as those storms are beginning to diminish. the only chance of severe weather today really is in eastern colorado and toward the northern section of oklahoma. the other system we have, though, is a cold front that's heading into this morning ohio, parts of kentucky, tennessee and some of our southern states so if you're headed out there a little bit later on today and especially this afternoon, you could see delays in those areas because of that front. it doesn't look like thunderstorms are going to be on the east coast until later tonight. our northern and western suburbs are going to be ground zero for those with heavy downpours and lots of lightning out of those storms later tonight. the other story in the east, tam, warm and very humid today. i'll have the afternoon call and more on that coming up in another couple of minutes, okay? >> okay, thank you, david.
