good afternoon. rick and sarah are off, i'm eva pilgrim. a crash on the northeast extension this morning involving a half-dozen vehicles caused big detours during rush hour. union carpenters are protesting outside of the philadelphia convention center today. the big story on "action news at noon" is the closing of showboat-atlanta. caesar's made the announcement this morning that the casino will be shutting its doors at the end of the summer. the loss of thousands of jobs is just the latest blow to the economy in a.c. "action news" reporter, annie mccormick, live how the side of showboat with more. annie? >> that's right. caesar's finally made the announcement this morning after months of rumors swirling. and last night the union, one of the major unions in town did also hear the news. caesar's announcement says showboat will close in august losing more than 2,000 jobs in atlantic city. >> to me it is crazy.

they show the numbers, we're not do so bad like other casinoses. >> many employees are baffled, many upset. >> it doesn't seem they care will their employee whose dedicated their life to them. to do this, i don't know how we will survive. >> and others were optimistic saying the writing was on the wall. >> it is a great company. i think they will take care of those they should. >> caesar's released this statement -- the difficult decision to close the property follows persistent declines in the bills levels in the area, ex-as ex ex-as >> according to "the associated press" the profit down more than deposits 6 million this quarter compared to last year. the hotel and casino will operate until august 31 and will work to find jobs for current

employees in their other three a.c. venues. and seeing the effects on employees, many working here since showboat opened more than 20 years ago. >> we were talking to these people last night, everybody was happy that it is revel and not us and this morning we find out it was them. i thought it was bad. >> and back out here live it is just a week ago that revel made the announcement. if they don't get a buyer by august they too will close. they are next door to the showboat and that puts around 3,000 jobs in jeopardy. local 54, the union representing hotel and restaurant workers, says that they believe that should be a criminal act that a casino like showboat that is making profit is getting closed. we did reach out to the mayor and did not hear back with comment. and nora muchanic is tracking him down and hearing from him later on in "action news." reporting live in atlantic city, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." members of the carpenters union protesting outside of the convention center this morning.

the union no longer working inside of the facility. the company that manages the convention center dropped the workers after the union miss added line to abide by new work rules. four other union s agreed to th work rules. a crash shutdown a section of i-95 in delaware creating a huge traffic mess for much of the morning of the big rig flipped over after 4:00 this morning in the southbound lane at the route 141 exit. the driver was trapped in the cab for some time before rescuers were able to finally free him. it would take much longer to clear the accident scene. you can see why from chopper 6 hd the u.p.s. truck and it was tinily removed around 8:45 and lanes reopened, but traffic continued. and this on the pennsylvania turnpike also caused traffic delays during rush hour. chopper 6 over the scene, and

the breeze kicks up doesn't even feel that a pretty nice day. feeling comfortable, the last few days we watched the humidity drop and dropping more tomorrow. appear good trend on that and we are in and out of the clouds and bright sunshine through much of the morning. now just over the past half-hour you see the clouds kind of filled in, but that's ok. seeing sunshine mixing with clouds through the day and partly sunny skies. it is going to be a good afternoon. here is your getaway forecast. philadelphia sunshine and clouds and 84 for the high. maybe a slight chance for a shower. i think the best chance is really north and west of the city. at the shore you are in the clear. it is breezies, my and sunshine at the shore and high of 78. in the poconos a better chance for a spotty shower. the farther north and west the better chance. 78 for the high today in the poconos. a good-looking day, setting us up for the weekend ahead. what is next? what can you expect for the shore, the poconos and the city?

finding about three months spent bullet cases on the ground. still searching for a motive and the suspect. a lehigh valley couple facing child negligent charges because of their daughter's teeth. police say the 6 year old's parents ignored months of warning from the dentist. the dentist said she needed baby root canals for abscessed teeth and says that the problem could have killed her. and the father was nervous about a child that young having a root canal. the authorities have taken their three children while the investigation continues. a man fell 50 feet through a roof overnight and survived. happening in an abandoned building near 15th street in the spring garden section. no word why he was there taken to the hospital with a head injury. the delaware news room, national h.i.v. testing today and free h.i.v. tests offered in delaware throughout the weekend.
