general motors. g.m. has issued a recall of 8.2 million vehicles, primarily because of faulty ignition switch. the latest recall involves mostly older mid-size cars because of what it calls unintend unintended problems. and it has no conclusive evidence that the faulty switches caused the crashes. the recall covers seven vehicles including the chevy malibu from 1997-2005. the pontiac grand pre 2004-2008. the cadillac cts, 200-2014. and the c.e.o. says today's recalls stem from a safety review from within the company and "if any other issues come to our attention, we will act

appropriately and without hesitation. " we have a list of all of the vehicles affected by the recall at 6abc.com. there you will also find a chart with the make, model and model year of each vehicle. along with the description of the potential problem. and "world news with diane sawyer" will have continuing coverage of the g.m. recall. that is next here on channel 6. the search in the water off ocean city for a 14 year old swimmer has now been suspended. the coast guard and ocean city beach patrol have been scouring the water off the ninth street beach for the teenager who fell victim to a rip current and disappeared late yesterday. "action news" reporter, annie mccormick, live on the ocean city boardwalk. what is the latest from there? >> it was about two yours ago the coast guard called off the search. and the family did remain close

to the beach most of the day. they tell me in the mild of the night many of them rushed from their homes in hunting park, pennsylvania to come here. family members seen here spent most of the morning on the 9th street beach hoping that rescuers would find the mission teen pulled under water by a rip current. by late afternoon the coast guard suspended the search. >> our hearts go out to the young man's family but we try to do our best when we are searching for folks. but when the probability of survivability has passed we have to begin other methods of trying to figure out where that person, has drifted off to. >> more than 20 hours can the coast guard searched air, land and water. and a rip current overwhelmed the teen and several family and friends who went swimming before 7:00 p.m. sunday after the lifeguards went off duty. the beach patrol rapid response team saved 14 people in the water including several good

samaritans. the teen did not resurface. and the beach reopened as the search went on but it was on everyone's mind. >> i feel readily bad for those people. i pray for the kid to be returned. >> it is awful. it is terrifying and awful. the worst nightmare, it is terrible. >> and even though the coast guard has suspended the search, the ocean city fire chief tells me that tomorrow morning at first light the fire department and also the beach patrol will again search the coastline. that is something they are expected to do for most of the day. reporting live in ocean city, new jersey annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." jim? >> thank you. philadelphia police are patrols pennypack creek urging swimmers to get out of the water. chopper 6 over the creek a few minutes okay near frankfort. and the creek has been dangerous in the past, even deadly to a dozen youngsters seeking a cool

place to beat the summer heat. with temperatures rising the next few days and schools out, the police will be stepping up their patrols. it happened again in upper darby. a woman awoke this bed to find a man standing over her. it is the fifth time the man has broken into a house to leer at a sleeping woman. and david henry is live at upper darby police tonight. >> he is pretty stelthy and no idea how many homes he has been. at least five women have awakened with him standing by their beds, in one case he was groping the victim. >> the guy is a sicko. >> and they went door-to-door handing out flyers warning of the danger. since april 15 five women woke up to find the bedroom creeper handing by their bed. friday night a woman chased him out of the bedroom with a baseball bat. in each case he got in through

an unlocked door, and that's what happened to this woman's 16 year old daughter. >> slowly opened it like this and that's how it was open and she was sleeping right here. >> she says her daughter had seen the suspect earlier in the day and was startled to see him again in the middle of the night. >> she said what do you want? and he said that he was meeting a girl to sell pot or something. >> and the police say he touched only one of the victims but they are afraid he is getting bolder and more dangerous. >> my fear is that he will hurt somebody because he gets in undetected. he gets in, he is quick like a cat. like a rat, i should say a rat, that's what he is, a rat. not even a cat. >> the suspect described as a black man in his 20s about 5'8" to 5'10" tall with a slim build. police believe he lives somewhere in the neighborhood. they say that he stalks his victim and knows when they are alone. >> you are absolutely not safe

in your own bedroom. >> women living in this neighborhood are on edge tonight. >> if something happened on the block that i am just moving into, and being a single parent and just being me in the house, i don't want to be there by myself now. >> she asked a friend to come and live with her until the creeper is caught. and police are asking residents to keep their doors and window locked and to leave a light on inand out of the house all night long. david henry, channel 6 news." >> thank you. from the delaware news room a state fire marshal said a man's sick ret lit his car on fire. and travis paul smith threw a lit cigarette out and the wind blow it back into the vehicle setting the interior on fire. those passing by stopped and pulled smith to safety.

contaminants got into the system before the repairs were done. until they do, no chances are taken. >> if you are going to drink the water or use it for cooking they ask you to boil. >> that remains thes case until tomorrow morning at the earliest for summers at the north penn water authority . and an "action news" employee living there says it is a bump in the road. >> it is boil water making sure that whatever i am cooking with, whatever i am drinking that it is boiled first. pain, yeah, you can live with it. >> and the owner of stella's blend cafe says boiling it for yourself is one thing, but for others is another thing. >> and using bagged ice, boiling any water we use including in the sinks for dishwashing and so forth. >> the result of a water main break over the weekend.

firefighters have recovered a swimmer who was in the water for about 20 minutes. police got a call for a person in distress. they rushed to the scene and did remove an individual from the water who apparently is in a medic vehicle at the scene yet to be transported to the hospital. we don't know the condition of that individual. when we do, we will let you know. and

folks enjoying the evening and the sea breeze kicked up really nicely. loads of sunshine. however, the weather headlines will show you that we have some brutal heat and humidity on the way for the next two days. and then the end of the week i'm tracking the potential for some tropical trouble. i want to show you futuretracker though, this is the heat index that's expected wednesday at 3:30. and you can see along the i-95 cure corridor heat indices around 105. it is getting into dangerous categories. and what is going down in florida, right now the cluster of storms, 110 miles east of melbourne. and that could become tropical storm arthur, about an 80% chance of tropical development and that could really have an impact on our weather on thursday and friday. and the possibility of rip currents for the start of the holiday weekend. right now philadelphia 86 degrees down from the high of 88. still a warm day. allentown 85, trenton 84, millville 82, sea isle city nice

with a temperature of 76. satellite 6 and action radar showing we have pretty much clear conditions here. however, there's a front that's causing a cluster of very intense thunderstorms across the midwest. you see that bow echo, that shows the potential for tornadoes and the rushing winds. and they've had more than 3,000 lightning strikes in that area over the past 15 minutes. this cluster of storms will be missing us, but the front that is triggering it will continue to push to the east. the first four days of july is going to be pretty busy. tomorrow and wednesday, the high pressure, bermuda high bringing the winds out of the southwest. heat intext 95 to 105. wednesday and thursday the front brings us the potential for tropical downpours and then the system could be having an impact on our weather on the 4th of ju july. i show you the spaghetti plot. and keeping it off the coast, the main concern the potential
