>> rising temperatures tempt swimmers to take deadly risks. officials send a warning about the wrong way to beat the heat. good morning, it's 5:30 on this tuesday july 1st. tam is off. >> good morning, a warm and muggy start across the region. we've got satellite showing you a mix of clouds with some clear spaces and we expect sun early relatively quickly like we saw yesterday. there were some clouds for awhile but eventually the sun came out. showers out to the west, slight chance of a pop-up thunderstorm in a couple of neighborhoods this afternoon but most of you stay dry. heading outer the door 73 degrees in philadelphia, 72 in wilmington, 72 in allentown, 71 in sea isle city. again it does feel a little sticky as you step outside. as we roll through the 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock hours you'll be looking after numbers climbing into the mid 70's by 8:00 a.m. so a quick rise today with that muggy air. 79 degrees by 9 o'clock. by noon, all the way up to 87. and this afternoon we spend most of our time in the 90's. your high of 92 will be at 4 o'clock. by 6 o'clock we're probably back down to 88 degrees.

as we take a look at florida, well, there is some precipitation off the southern coast of florida and this is tropical depression number one claw declared late last night and later today it's expected to grow into tropical storm arthur and the latest forecasting on this, the models are showing that it does turn up the florida coast and then eventually heads out to sea past us but it may actually be a hurricane by the time it gets here. will that have an impact on our fourth of july? we'll have the very latest from accuweather coming up. karen what about roads this morning. >> for now we're dry but not problem free. an accident in southwest philadelphia. you can probably see the flashing lights back here which is i-95 southbound right near the airport. the accident mostly off to the left side of the road so traffic is getting by. just watch for that accident as you're passing it by on i-95 southbound. in lower merion we've got a big closure here. conshohocken state road route 23 shut down because of emergency construction here so you've got to watch for them doing emergency sewer and roads row pairs here. closed between manayunk road

and rockhill road. stick to woodbine or the schuylkill but of course you like to take conshohocken to avoid the schuylkill so maybe you'll expect extra delays on the schuylkill this morning. that one is really going to affect you. it's closed until 3 o'clock in the afternoon. on the big picture, university city chestnut street remains closed between 38th and 37th because of a water main break. stick to mark street as your alternate. in mount laurel burlington county we've got a problem right here, creek road closed between centerton and masonville road. watch for this right now. also the ramp for 295 shut down much this is all due to construction. you're going to be dealing with that one for at least another half hour, matt. >> thanks, karen. an attempt the cool off turned deadly for a teen in philadelphia. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in juniata park with more on this cautionary tale. katherine. >> reporter: matt, police are calling this an accidental drowning and they're not entirely sure what caused this 15-year-old boy to drown but they are urging people not to swim in the areas of creeks and rivers when it gets hot out because there are a lot of

hidden hazards. police were called out here around 5:45 last evening. it's off rom mona fish's lane in union yacht in a. witnesses say a teenaged boy was swimming in the tacony creek under the bridge at fishers. he went under and did not resurface. first responders jumped in the creek where it's about 8 feet deep and police and fire department paramedics were able to pull his body out. he was completely unconscious. medics worked on him but he was pronounced dead before 6:15 last evening. police say dangers lurk in these creeks for swimmers. >> tragedies like this happen just too often. every year a tragedy like this occurs in a creek or a river here in philadelphia. so, we advise everyone not to swim in the rivers. >> reporter: and shortly before this happened yesterday police were actually out elsewhere in the city there in

pennypack park talking to kids there about not swimming in the creek because again they say tragedies like this happen all too often especially when it's hot out like it's going to be today. we're live in juniata, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> critically important message. thank you, katherine. an overnight shooting sends one person to the hospital in new jersey. the action cam was there as police searched the scene for evidence in bridgeton, cumberland county. detectives here focused their attention outside a home at south and fremont avenues. it's still unclear who shot the victim or why. the investigation continues. a woman at the center of a vicious viral video has surrendered to new jersey police. 25-year-old latia harris faces aggravated assault charges and is in jail on $35,000 bail. police say a recording shows harris beating up a mcdonald's coworker, 27 year old katherine ferrera in front of ferrera's two-year-old son. the beating victim is still recovering if her injuries. tension is mounting in the middle east since the discovery of three dead

israeli teens who were kidnapped more than two weeks ago. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is live in there satellite center with the latest. erin. >> nydia, major repercussions going on in that area. israel in no uncertain terms is blaming hamas for the disappearances and deaths of those three teenagers and the israeli air force has carried out more than 30 strikes on terror targets in the gaza strip. and it appears that there are signs that a significant escalation of israeli operations in gaza may be under way. the three bodies were found northwest of hebron. an ambulance and military escort brought the bodies of the three israeli teens back to their homes last night. the three boys were hiking when they were kidnapped 18 days ago. last night in tel aviv israelis held a candlelight vigil. the teens' death has sparked international outrage and israel has vowed to make hamas pay for the killings. >> we have a very responsible and serious leadership in jerusalem and they will make

the decisions they have to make in order to send a very strong message to hamas that this action is unacceptable and to take the action they deem necessary in order to protect and defend our population. your government would do the same thing, any government would do the same thing. >> the fbi is also involved in this investigation because one of the teens was an israeli-american. he had moved to israel with his family from brooklyn when he was 16 years old. i'm erin o'hearn live in the satellite center. back to you. >> our new jersey news room, new jersey governor chris christie signed a budget for the state's new fiscal year which begins today. the spending plan totals $32.5 billion. before putting his name on the budget, christie vetoed two tax hikes and cut back on the state's contribution to the public employee pension fund. team u.s.a. plays belgium in the world cup this morning and our big offensive weapon jozy altidore will be available for the first time since he injured his hamstring in the team's first world cup

morning as you step out the door. as we take a look outside we have that mix of clouds and sun very similar to what we showed you yesterday over the ben franklin bridge. it's a bit on the muggy side as you step outside. currently 73 degrees in philadelphia, dewpoint at 64, still hovering in the mid 60's so that's somewhat humid air. winds out of the south-southwest at 7 miles per hour. satellite and radar showing you there is that clouds and sun mix just like sky 6 showed you. there's also showers falling app bart to our west and there's a slight chance of a stray thunderstorm in a couple of neighborhoods later this afternoon or this evening but i think most of you probably miss out on that. 76 degrees by 8 o'clock. 84 by 11:00 and then we hit 2 o'clock and we're at about 90 degrees by 2:00. 92 is your high today. we'll lit that at about 4 o'clock and then back to 90 by 5 o'clock so a hot one and a sticky one today. high temperatures are getting pretty far up the thermometer even up in allentown where we're going to get to about 90 today. 91 in reading. down the shore is the difference, you're in the low to mid 80's right down along the water and it will be on the humid side there as well. tomorrow, well, in the

afternoon in particular we'll be on the lookout for some clouds gathering and then eventually some showers and i know we're not really seeing a lost this on the model but there is the potential given the humid atmosphere of a couple of gusty thunderstorms firing up and where they hit they could produce drenching downpours and a front out to the west that's triggering that doesn't really come through until sometime thursday into friday. so, thursday could be another day where we see some drenching showers and thunderstorms. future tracker 6 showing you that in the very least there's going to be some precip out there. tropical depression number one, the first of the season in the atlantic basin did form last night and it's very close to becoming tropical storm arthur. we think that's going the happen down in florida later on today. and right now we've still got 35 miles per hour winds but just to let you know it only has to get to be 39 miles per hour sustained winds to become a tropical storm so that looks like a pretty good bet for later today. looks like the storm strengthens into a tropical storm and eventually becomes a category one hurricane but notice how the most likely

scenario has this well off our coast. now, this would be coming by during the fourth of july. we expect the results would be some cloud cover early, perhaps some early rain and some breezes, also rip currents down the shore. but as this storm passes us, there is a pretty good chance that we see improvement in our weather during the fourth then we're dry later in the day and at night. of course it all depends on the track of this storm. and if changes that forecast changes so we'll keep you posted. for now, though, most of our spaghetti plot models are keeping this storm far enough off the coast where the main issue for us is rip current down the shore. seven day forecast, hot and humid today with a high of 92. just a slight chance of a pop-up storm. tomorrow humid, a high of 95. the humidity will be higher and probably reaching oppressive ranges tomorrow and in the afternoon and evening some drenching thunderstorms are possible and some of them could be gusty. on thursday looks like we drop back to 88 for a high, warm and mug get though with more drenching storms possible and

the fourth of july weekend. i don't know about you. not really happening out there with the commute. couple of problems here in mount ephraim camden county we've got downed pole from an earlier accident causing a problem right on kings highway. so that's a main artery in that area at least at lincoln avenue. stick to browning road as your alternate to avoid kings highway with there downed pole causing a problem. the action cam was on the scene and you can see the sign, road closed and this is a big one for you, conshohocken state road, route 23 is shut down until 3 o'clock today. they're doing emergency road work right now with sewer and road repairs so you've got to watch out and closed between manayunk road and rockhill road. you can stick to the schuylkill but who wants to do that. there's going to be extra congestion or use woodbine avenue as your alternate. let's take you outside. this is chester county 202 approaching 401. construction off to the side ongoing construction zone right here but both lanes opened at this point and you're seeing no problems between king of prussia and west chester so looking pretty good i'd say on 202 and you

can see we're dry right there. i was checking the commuter traffic report here powered by waze and we're looking in west deptford, new jersey, right now and you can see the little accident signal so someone reporting an accident out here and in parksville station or parkville station in west deptford gloucester county, new jersey, so watch for that one, that's not far from kings highway and 295 if you're familiar with that area. let's check the conditions weather-wise we have no big problems affecting the roads. it's just hot today and kind of sticky. 67 in quakertown, 71 right now in chester. some of the suburbs in new jersey 69 in toms river, 71 in dover. headed up to 92, hot and humid today, nydia -- matt. >> i'll take it, thank you karen. happening today, portuguese police are expected to question their first person of interest in the madeline mccann case. it's been seven years since the british girl vanished dark vacation with her family. investigators opened the case last year citing new leads. up to eight people may be questioned in the coming days.
