the big story on "action news" this noon is breaking news, police are investigating a report of five children left alone inside a vehicle. chopper 6 hx d was over the scene of the the 8700 block of aramingo avenue in the port richmond section. the children have just arrived at the local hospital to get checked out. david henry joins us with the details. >> reporter: it was 11:00 this morning and other shoppers were walking through the parking lot and came across this vehicle, a lincoln suv, inside they noticed five children unattended by any adults. we have video of the police arriving here. lots of police officers arrived at the scene along with philadelphia medics, they found out indeed the kids were locked in there and pried open the

driver's side of the vehicle and got the children out. the children arrived at the hospital, all five are apparently okay. it turns out that the car was running and the air conditioning was on and the children were not suffering from hyperthermia or anything like that. they were just alone in this car that was running a dangerous situation in itself. the police tell us that the children are all okay. they had just taken them to the hospital and they are fine. we spoke to a security guard that spoke to someone in the shopping center. she was arriving when the police were taking them out of car. >> i asked the cashier to let them know that someone was digging in her car, the cops were digging the kids out and she needs to get out there. the lady made an announcement in shop-rite and she came out of the side.

>> now, there was also a male companion with a woman and he was in the back of the police car and we tried to talk to him, and he made no sense, he says he is not related to the children and just took a ride to the store. the air condition was running and the shoppers called police because they were unattended and the mother is taken down to the police station for more questioning. live in aramingo, david henry, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. as we mentioned this is all unfolding on a hot and humid day here in philadelphia, and it's just the start of this very warm weather, sky of hd taking a live look outside this noon. we see the temperatures rise above 90 and the humidity goes up with the temperatures, we are also keeping an eye on the first

tropical storm that could impact 4th of july festivities. david murphy joins us with all the steamy details. >> the national hurricane center declared tropical storm arthur, it's now bumped up to tropical storm status with 40 miles per hour winds, that is just barely a tropical storm. we expect this storm to intensify over the next couple of days as it moves north up of the east coast, there is the radar on live stormtracker 6 live double scan, a couple of bands are coming in along areas east of orlando, miami is not really affected but if you have travel plan, keep your eyes on this today and probably tomorrow. notice there are a lot of watch and warning boxes, that is because this storm system after circulating for a bit today is expected to take a turn up to the northeast. that is what we are expecting

out of this storm in the future. we have the latest track from the hurricane center it looks like it goes off the coast of florida and becoming a potential category one hurricane. and if you are in the outer banks you'll want to keep an eye on it. the possible cone does not touch delaware and new jersey any longer. so this is probably good news for us, in that it looks more than likely if we get rain out of this it will be minimum, and probably thursday night into friday morning. it means that we won't have as great an impact with wind. as you look at the spaghetti plot model and computer graphics this system is pulling farther away from us. that doesn't mean we dodge the bullet as far as rip currents.

it could be a problem at the shore, you'll want to swim next to lifeguards. i'm back with the hot and humid conditions and drenching thunderstorms. >> we'll check back in later. we can keep track of the accuweather forecast any time by downloading the free storm tracker 6 app. it has weather alerts posted for your area. philadelphia police have not released the name of the teenage boy that drown in juniata park, it happened yesterday afternoon on the tacony creek. police say that swimmers are tempting fate, we are told that the 15-year-old boy was swimming with friends yesterday under the fisher's lane bridge when he went under and did not surface. his friends tried to pull him out and could not. he was unconscious and was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m.

they held a conference urging people not to swim in creeks and rivers when the weather gets warm. >> these creeks are dangerous, over the course of my career, i have had to pull out 30 to 50 children that have died in these creeks around the city. the firefighters are doing this time of year all the time. >> instead officials say it's better to escape the heat in one of many city pools across the area. two people were injured in a rush hour crash in the northeast. chopper 6 was over the scene at tyson and rolland avenue. a black suv rolled on its side and trapped a 60-year-old woman inside. she was treated for a broken hip and a man was also hurt and no word on his condition and the streets department was told to check on malfunctioning traffic

lights just before the time of the accident. a small plane crashed into a marshy area and it was dismantled and removed today. chopper 6 was over head when the huge excavator began the process this morning. the cessna 172 crashed sunday night, when they reported engine problems, the pilot and the passenger both survived. world cup fever is reaching new heights as the u.s. team plans to take on belgium. u.s. striker jozie is returning to the lineup. walter perez is joining us with the excitement. >> reporter: the official fifa soccer fest is going on at the complex in bethlehem is a raging success over the last few weeks,

they are watching the argentina switzerland game, on the big screen behind me. this place is expected to be packed and rocking starting at 4:00 when the u.s. faces belgium. the official world cup fifa soccer face is located outside of the arch quest center and they are pleasantly surprised by the turnout the last few weeks. >> we didn't know what to expect but when we saw 8,000 p.m. for the america-ghana game and 12,000 for the game against portugal. the u.s. soccer team has exceeded the expectations of most, going on a magical run and on the brink of making it past the knockout round for the first time in quite a while. it's exciting for the team and the sport of soccer. >> it's a testament to the growing popularity of soccer not

the search is on this noon for a 17-year-old boy swept away in cedar rapids, iowa yesterday. the boys were playing frisbee when one teen was swept into a drain. he went in after heim but oh was found. they are blamed on killing one person in fairfax and living a path of destruction. iowa governor has issued a disaster emergency for five count counties and it caused several flight delays and

cancellations at o'hare airport. israel is vowing retaliation for the three deaths of teens that are attributed to the terrorist group, hamas. their bodies were discovered yesterday, hamas has denied any involvement in the abductions or killings. last night though stepped up air strikes on mill tans and gaza. israel's president and prime minister is expected to attend the service. it's suppose to be a fun trip turned dangerous for two men on a utah glacier and it was all caught on camera. they were both badly hurt while tumbling down a cliff. their friend came to the rescue and called 911, reece broke his cheek bone and speedy suffered a

broken ankle. an illinois truck driver turned the tables on a state trooper when he saw what he believes was reckless driving and laid down the law, darren minor laid on his horn to get his attention and he pulled him over and he took him to task, and he let him know he was recording the inter action. >> i felt like my video is my way of keeping him accountable. >> the officer did not ticket minor and thanked him to bringing it to his attention. chrysler is recalling 3700 vehicles because of ignition switch problems similar to those plaguing general motors, chrysler's recalls affected 50 million vehicles here in the u.s. alone. including dodge journey suvs and dodge caravans and chrysler town and country minivans, from 2007 to 2009. the company says that jarring road conditions like hitting a pothole could cause the key to slip out of the run condition. health check this noon, a new study reinforces new research that childhood vaccines are safe. there is still no evidence that

meteorologist, david murphy is back now with a closer look at the forecast. as we go step by step, hot and humid and we have the tropical storm coming up the coast later in the week. stormtracker 6 live double scan scanning the delaware and lehigh valley and showing you no precipitation just yet. as we look outside. a little bit down the southern coast there in cape may and new jersey, sky 6 hd and people beating the heat, the ocean water, the upper 60s and up to 70 in the ocean today. and we are enjoying temperatures in the 70s. away from the water the temperature is getting toasty out there and your dew point

locally is 67, we have dew points over 70 and that is border line oppressive humidity. not that the breeze is helping much with these numbers. 87 in allentown and reading and millville and 86 in wildwood and trenton right now. of course it feels worse than that, feels like 93 in wilmington and 93 in allentown and these are heat indexes and feels like 95 degrees in dover, delaware, the clouds kind of take a vacation for a good portion of the morning and there are a few more to the west that mix with the hot sunshine and sun glasses are required up i-95 or the turnpike or anywhere else. just a slight chance of a stray thunderstorm, in the lehigh valley, 90 is your high and humid conditions there, take it

easy, cool drinks and loose, light colored clothing is a good idea. sun and clouds on the beach and sunscreen weather as well. and elsewhere around the region, a high of 92 today and it will be human the rest of the way and winds southwest at 16 and 75 is the muggy overnight low and a slight chance of a spotty thunderstorm today and tonight, it gets hotter and more humid tomorrow and at some point, there is a chance of a line of thunderstorms coming through and where they hit, they could produce drenching downpours and gustsy hits. some spots are above 70 but worse on wednesday. down to the tropics we go, tropical storm arthur has forms a half hour ago off the coast of florida, and it will make a move northeast the next couple of days but the latest track, has it growing from a category one

hurricane we get a little rain out of that. 92 is today's high and hot and humid, and ape slight chance of a thunderstorm, tomorrow humid, oppressively so and a high of 95 and thunderstorms are prevlen in the afternoon. and then warm and muggy on thursday, 88 and a couple more drenching storms possible probably not as strong as these guys, we are watching the coast and it looks like that storm will not have a major impact on us. there could be rain and storms around in the morning and the weekend otherwise lots of sun on saturday and sunday. >> keep that arthur guy out there. we don't want to see him. >> don't forget "action news" at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00. for david murphy and rick williams and the entire "action news" team, i'm sara bloomquist have a great afternoon. we love this kitchen!
