sandwich builders embark on a wawa tradition, constructing the 5-ton hoagie. good morning everyone, 5:30 on this wednesday, tam is off, nydia han joins us. we're all hungry. let's go to david and karen. >> i got sweet peppers on the brain now. we got issues today. the first is a heat advisory in effect from noon today until 8 o'clock this evening where heat indexes because of the combined high heat and high humidity could make it feel like between 100 and 105 and especially in urban centers in all these highlighted counties so cool drinks today, take it easy don't overdo it. 76 already in philadelphia and already feeling muggy out there. 76 in wilmington, 74 in allentown. 73 in sea isle city. as we go through the day, well, here's the numbers story. 83 degrees by 9 o'clock. and 90 by noon. pretty quick rise to 90 today and 94 by 3 o'clock with that high of 95 probably right in there around 4 o'clock, all right. other issue is the possibility of some thunderstorms and as you look out to the west there's not a whole lot going

on out there right now but we have a cold front that's slowly inching its way here and as we get into the afternoon heating some of this little itty bitty stuff popping is going to turn into more pronounced thunderstorm activity especially in the northern and western suburbs this afternoon and perhaps in and around philadelphia and beyond later this evening. a severe weather throughout risk exists today from the national weather service. anything that does form here while it is spotty could produce gusty winds downpours and lightning and so that's something to keep in mind. we're still tracking arthur which is still down by florida but it's going to shift to the north. its latest track coming up, karen. >> all right, dave, as we hit the roads this morning looking pretty good. this is i-95 nearly a again a and we can see pretty light volume, the overnight construction is cleared so coming from bucks county or northeast philly looking pretty good on i-95. on the big picture schuylkill in nice shape, mostly looking at the 50's. upper 40's for speeds. the fifth street tunnel under the ben franklin bridge that remains closed until 2 o'clock today for maintenance. so you'll be dealing with that one. and city avenue southbound at

monument road the construction there that we had overnight has cleared. lower salford township we had this disabled tractor-trailer. it just cleared. it was causing restrictions on old forty foot road. burlington county construction for another half hour. closing the ramp from 295 to mount holly willingboro. that's exit 45. they're blocked right now. you got the use the ramp at creek road or 541 instead, matt. >> okay, thanks karen. developing right now new details are just into the news room on a shooting in chester that sent five people to the hospital. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn has the update live from the satellite center. erin. >> reporter: matt, you're right, we just received new details on this shooting. police have now confirmed that two of the five people who were shot were teenagers. a 14-year-old girl was shot in the right foot, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the right leg. three adult men were also hit as a barrage of bullets were fired into a group of people who were according to police

just talking to friends and playing on the basketball court. according to neighbors, the gun shots rang out from the 800 block of kellman street around midnight and everyone ran for cover. all of the victims are listed in stable condition in an area hospital. this is an ongoing investigation with no word of any suspects or any motive yet. so, police are urging anyone with information to call them immediately and we've posted that number on our web site, 6abc.com. i'm erin o'hearn, live in the satellite center and back to you. >> thank you erin. also new from the overnight police believe a neighborhood dispute in west philadelphia erupted into gunfire. someone shot two women sitting on their front porches along hoop street late last night. one of the women is stable, the other remains in critical condition. police say officers responded to the same area earlier in the night to break up an argument between residents on the block. >> also new this morning, a car involved in a police chase left a lot of damage along two philadelphia streets. a total of five parked cars

got smashed up along gillingham and orthodox streets in the port richmond section overnight. pennsylvania state troopers say it happened when a driver fleeing police lost control. the suspect is now in custody. no police officers were hurt. a mother and her teenaged daughter remain in critical condition after this food truck explosion in philadelphia's feltonville section. look at this surveillance video. it shows the moments the vehicle erupt need a fire ball on wyoming avenue yesterday evening. you will hear brand new reaction from the relative of one of the victims coming up in a full report at 6:00 a.m. >> the delaware and lehigh valleys will be under a heat advisory this afternoon. children and the elderly are encouraged to keep hydrated stay indoors when the sun is strongest. temperatures will be in the 90's but it will feel like triple digits. david will be here in a moment on that. down at the shore they are watching the path of tropical storm arthur as it tracks north along the coast, authorities expect conditions to be ripe for rip currents over the holiday weekend. a rip current swept away a

"action news" reporter katherine scott is live at the national constitution for the annual hoagie day. a lot of hoagies to build, more than 2,000 hoagies have already been made here and they have a way to go and you can see all the employees who are working hard on these hoagies since we've last talked, donkey and ella the elephant mascots from the national constitution center, they've joined the party. george washington is here, too, but our first president doesn't seem to be busting a groove like these mascots. he assured me he wouldn't. general is walking around monitoring activities here. 150 employees from a number of different wawas putting

together this free feast for today. here's what they're doing. they're making 17,000 italian shorty hoagies, 10,000 pounds of ingredients are going into this. the first 5,000 hoagies are being given to philadbundance to distribute to their community shelters. the rest are free on independence mall at noon today. of course making these hoagies is a lot of energy, big smiles on these faces this morning. the music has been blasting. a lot of wonderful dance moves have been busted out. i'm impressed. if you want your free hoagie, noon independence mall today. get there early because these go quickly as we know from past years and also either before or after you get are free hoagie, free admission today at the national constitution center for hoagie day. we're live at the national constitution center, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> i love those wawa folks having such a good time. thank you katherine. wawa welcome america celebration continues tonight with the showing of rocky on the steps of the philadelphia museum of art.

personally be gusty. later in the week we have arthur's approach so let's get you to the whole shebang. 76 degrees is today's current temperature. dewpoint is climbing, 69 almost 70. once it gets to 70 we start talking oppressive humidity and a lot of areas are already there. winds out of the south at 6 miles per hour so not much relief along those lines. future tracker shows you between noon and 3 o'clock we'll be looking at the potential in the northern and o'and western suburbs for thunderstorms to start "closed captioning is sponsored by "the fred c. rummel foundation." bell around and these will be spotty as we go into the evening but where they hit they could produce drenching downpours and other problems so take cover from any storms. by this evening and this happens to be future tracker's 9 o'clock stab at what's going on you see a little more of this pushing towards i-95 and into parts of south jersey. in terms of today's storms they're mainly in the afternoon and evening as you just saw and they are scattered but some of them could potentially be severe featuring damaging gusty winds downpours and lots of lightning. take cover as soon as you hear thunder and i think it's one

of those nights where lower floors work better than upper floors where trees can come through your roof. the other part of the story is the heat. by 11 o'clock eight, your high today is 95 but it will feel a lot worse than that because of the high humidity. so, as you look at all these high temperatures, 92 in allentown, 93 in trenton, 95 in wilmington, 92 in millville keep in mind that it's going to be worse than even these numbers indicate because of that thick humidity. and again those thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon. down the shore not sure rain ever makes it down there later tonight but you want to take cover if you hear thunder. during the day it's still warm and humid and again there's that oppressive 70-degree plus dewpoint. it is going to feel pretty miserable out there. down to the tropics, there you see tropical storm arthur gaining in intensity a little bit as it starts to make its move towards the north along the eastern florida coast. it's up to 60 miles per hour sustained winds. it's got to go another about 14 miles per hour higher to become a hurricane but we think that is going to happen over the n-couple of days in fact, category one hurricane offer the coast of the

carolinas is possible. still looks like it's a category one as it passes us but the latest tracks continue to pull this storm farther out to sea. we might get a little brush of rain in the morning of the big issue is going to be rip currents down the shore on friday and maybe saturday as well. careful swimming in the water in the ocean friday and saturday, only do it near lifeguard stations, okay. 95 is today's high, oppressive humidity. it will feel like it's 100 or worse. and any storms that form, yeah, they're spotty but they could produce drenching downpours and gusty winds. tomorrow humid, 88. not quite as intense with the heat but there's another chance of a thunderstorm at times and tomorrow's may not be as gusty but they could still produce drenching downpours. arthur is off shore on friday for the fourth of july. that's mainly good news for us. we talked about rip currents at the shore and maybe a morning shower but looks like we get sun back in play during the afternoon and early evening hours. we'll be dry for barbecues, dry for fireworks. the weekend looks great. saturday and sunday lots of sun, comfortable and then more humid next week. >> thanks, david. 5:40.

on 202. and let's take you over here to montgomery county am i told you about them pacing traffic because of work they were doing on the northeast extension northbound past mid county tolls. but the road repair crews have cleared out and things moving nicely with no delays right now. in voorhees township camden county we've got this problem white horse road closed between station avenue and burnt mill road right here and started last week but it's indefinite at this point. they're doing emergency work in area and have to stay closed. stick to somerdale road as your alternate. i know that affects a lot of people. i hear 322 in atlantic county both ways west of 54 construction blocking the left lane until 6 o'clock tomorrow morning so you'll be dealing with that one for quite a bit. time for your commuter traffic report which you get to be a part of when you download the free waze app which i have done right here on the ipad. people talking about construction here wissahickon avenue in philadelphia so that one reported to be a bit of a problem this morning. no weather related issues except it is warm and sticky

already. 76 degrees right now in philadelphia, 75 in millville, 74 in allentown. the humidity today is going to be oppressive with dewpoints over 70 degrees, nydia. >> thanks karen. philadelphia police are continuing their search for 58-year-old william carrasquillo. investigators say he collected his mother's social security checks for months while her body was in a freezer in their feltonville home. yesterday officers removed the freezer from the home on the 4500 block of north lee street. the body of 83 year old andrea carrasquillo was still in it. police are trying to determine if this is a case of simple fraud or something much worse. the medical examiner is working to figure out whether the mom died of natural causes. new this morning, police in central pennsylvania say professional truck drivers have been duped by a fake doctor. joanne wingate is accused of posing as a psychiatrist to perform bogus exams on commercial truckers who needed to take the exams to maintain their licenses.
