good afternoon in the news this noon, several car owners are facing repairs after a police crash ends with a crash. >> and philadelphia celebrates the second annual wawa hoagie day and we'll take you live to the 4th of july tradition. >> but the big story is the heat advisory that just took affect. we have a chance of strong storms, lets go outside to sky 6 hd, a scene in center city, it doesn't look too bad, a few clouds in the sky, temperatures are reaching the mid-90s for the second day in a row. people are going to the beach where it is hazy and muggy this afternoon. lets head to the big board and meteorologist, david murphy. >> there are a couple of issues happening in the weather and the most obvious one is the heat. it starts at noon and goes until

8:00 at night. we are concerned with the urban center, and all the areas in boxes of orange, more importantly, the combination of heat and humidity making it feel like 100 and 105 through the afternoon and the potential for strong storms and the weather service has the entire area under a severe weather risk, at least a slight risk for storms. that means anything that does form will produce strong gusty winds and lightning and a little bit of hail as well. and in fact, a thunderstorm watch is just posted within the last 15 minutes or so, covering berks county and the lehigh valley and the poconos and points west. storms that form in this air mass could produce wind gusts of 65 miles per hour, and that could produce damage potentially. hail up to one inch in diameter. >> here is radar now, have you

to stretch stormtracker 6 live double scan, past pottstown to find the latest thunderstorm, it was a good one producing lightning strikes all the way to hazelton. as we go later in the afternoon we'll be on the watch for some of this moving through the east or popping up in the air mass. and over in the west another line in the evening hours. lets look at temperatures, that is the other part of the story and man is it a story. 98 in philadelphia and 90 in wilmington and it feels hotter than that. in dover, delaware, it feels like 105 degrees and close to 100 in wilmington and philadelphia 97. have you to take it easy in this air mass, lots of cool drinks and don't overexert. we have arthur coming up the coast too, and i'll have the latest on that coming up.

>> thank you david. meantime, the tropical storm is kicking up rough surf in florida, red flags warned swimmers of the dangerous conditions off the beach, the danger for rip currents that could sweep people out to sea, that extends to the jersey shore where almost a million people are expected there for the holiday weekend. as we head into the 4th of july, can you keep track of the accuweather forecast any time by downloading our free 6 abc storm tracker app, it has hourly radar and the forecast and weather alerts posted for your area. federal investigators are on the scene this morning inspecting the food truck that exploded in feltonville yesterday, 10 people were caught in the blast, including two women that suffered serious burns. david henry joins us at the scene with the latest.

>> reporter: just about a half hour ago, the truck was towed from the scene, it was parked back here. the moment of the explosion was caught on cameras when it was torn apart. can you see the force of the explosion that was recorded here. the tremendous heat and flames seared cars and houses in the street, 11 people were injured some of them were walking by, four were hospitalized. the woman that operates the truck and her 17-year-old daughter were in the truck, they remain in critical condition at temple university hospital. investigators from multiple agencies were back on the scene this morning, including the fire marshall and the department of licenses and inspections and the police and federal agents from atf and osha. there is nothing immediately aparent as a cause, they will turn the truck over to

engineers, and they will examine the cooking system looking for possible sources of leaks and taking a close look at the tank itself for possible defects. the truck was properly licensed by lni and we don't know when the propane was resently inspected. we are expecting an update from the philadelphia police early this afternoon and we'll pass along any additional information as soon as we get it. live in feltonville, david henry, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. we are following breaking news from camden, new jersey, at this hour. chopper 6 hd was over martin luther king boulevard and haddonfield avenue, where a car struck a train, the river line, we are told that all the injuries appear to be minor but we are monitoring the situation. and we'll bring you more information as it becomes

available. they say that four individuals are recovering from a shooting in chester. on tillman street, the bullets hit three men and a 14-year-old girl and boy that were standing on the basketball court at the time. all the victims were in critical condition. in west philadelphia, police believe a neighborhood dispute resulted in a shoot that injured two women on north fallin street. both were sitting on their front steps when someone opened fire at 11:00 last night. a 36-year-old woman was shot in the head and taken to the hospital in critical condition, and a 35-year-old woman was stable when she was shot in the face. police say that this stemmed from a fight with neighbors earlier in the evening. they are searching for a suspect. we are getting a first look at the day care provider accused of leaving five children alone in the car when she went grocery shopping. karen thompson allegedly left

the kids in an suv on aramingo avenue. the air was on and the car was running, all five kids were taken to the hospital in stable condition and released to their parents. several parked cars were damaged when police responded to a crash in port richmond. state police were pursuing a vehicle when it lost control at orthodox, and a third careened into a tree. the police cruiser and i suspect vehicle were towed away and it's unclear what sparked the initial chase. flyers captain claude giroux reportedly spend the tight in a canadian jail cell. is he accused of grabbing a female police officer outside of a bar. well, the countdown to the

4th of july continues this noon with the wawa welcome america celebration and it marks the anniversary of the civil rights act with this new display at the philadelphia international airport, it tells the story of the activist and the leaders that fought for various freedom. and now a decades old tradition. it's national hoagie day. they made 17,000 hoagies to be given away for free. katherine scott continues the buildup, can you put one in your pocket and bring it back >> reporter: i think it will be angry people waiting online for a long time. people are here and they want their free hoagie and why not, they look delicious. it includes more than 2,000

firefighters are scrambling to protect 200 homes from a wild fire in napa, california, today. it burned 300 acres and damaged five structures since the blaze started yesterday afternoon. no injuries are reported. the libyan militant now in u.s. custody in the benghazi attacks was in a washington, d.c., courtroom today. he is the suspected ring leader in the attack that killed four americans including ambassador, chris stevens, they say that

they continue to target americans with deadly and distruckive intentions and should remain in detention. a college cheerleaders hunting trip is causing a social media up roar. crystal shows her beaming beside dead animals in africa. she argues that the money she pays for big game hunts actually prevents poaching. there is an online petition with more 67,000 signatures to remove her facebook page. >> a man is arrested in connecticut for looking up women's skirts at a shople small. he was allegedly using a small video camera to shoot up girl's skirts while pretending to be shopping. police noticed him on the ground behind a woman and that is when she took matters into her own hands. she yelled at him the entire

basically dry conditions across the region but if we go out to the north and west. we are tracking some of the the day's thunderstorms popping up near pottsville and the one by harrisburg is firing up and most of it is heading towards the poconos and in the next 90 minutes or so, the north and western areas we'll have to watch for something popping up. this is penn's landing, this is a nice time for summertime concerts, you don't want to be sitting on the asphalt today because it's hot and uncomfortable out there. the temperature has reached the 90 degree mark and the dew point up over 70 in philadelphia and any dew point over 70 we tell you is a sign of oppressive air, winds not helping out much either, winds around the region, most of us close to the 80 degree mark and the dew points over 70, there is a lot of them

out there. how about 74 in allentown, really humid air. i was in new orleans once as a hurricane was coming in and i had dew points of 80 and it was just horrible and this is getting close to that. new orleans type dew points, or close to that in wildwood and dover right now. by 2:00, it shows to the north and west of the region we see more of those thunderstorms inching close to us, after 3:00 they will be marching through allentown and reading and closer to philadelphia. and from 6:00 until 10:00, more of these thunderstorms are possible. they are spotty and not everybody sees them and they are strong enough to produce damaging winds and lots of lightning and downpours. all of that is not good, take cover from these storms. 92 is the high up in allentown and sun and clouds and humid and some possible in the lehigh

valley, not as much rain and none of it during the daytime hours, warm and humid on the beach, and sunscreen of course, you will want to take it easy if you are in the heat. 95 degrees, is the high if are you going to be outside, cool fluids and sun and clouds and humid and thunderstorms possible in the day and evening, 76 is the muggy overnight low, now tomorrow we do it all over again, the front is still out to the west and still coming through, during the afternoon we have a chance of other thunderstorms, they may not be as gusty but they could produce downpours that could produce localized street flooding. down to the tropics, tropical storm arthur, not much has changed, it's starting to make its push to the north. 60 miles per hour sustained winds this morning and this is off the coast into the sea
