>> once again center city philadelphia was literally enveloped by storm clouds tonight and then torrential

rain. in lawncrest trees came crashing down on top houses on shellborn street, newtown avenue and cottman avenue. this was a violent storm that swept through the region tonight knocking out power to about 150,000 homes. >> and this is wrightsville beach, north carolina where arthur was stirring it up all day. that deposit keep folks off the beach prior to the storm making plan land fall. a tale of two storms. tonight's quick moving but violent storm is largely out of here. but the delaware valley mostly the jersey shore and delaware will feel some of the impact of hurricane arthur tomorrow. and tonight's thunderstorm will be forcing some homeowners to make calls to the insurance company and a tree at 49 and pine in west philadelphia fell across the road right on to a car. traffic was partially blocked along cobbs creek parkway, southwest philadelphia, too, by

a fallen tree and fortunately no serious property damage was done by this broken branch on spring avenue in ardmore. but one such snapped branch sent a woman to the hospital tonight. the falling tree limb struck her car while driving on millcreek in delaware at 6:40 on the 2800 block of millcreek road. the victim was shaken up but will be okay. the storm left 118,000 peco customers in the darkp tonight. mostly in philadelphia and chester county. delmarva had nearly 8,000 outages and new castle county more than 2,000 customers of both atlantic city electric and pse&g were knocked off-line tonight. let's get the latest information from accuweather and meteorologist cecily tynan and adam joseph. cecily has double scan radar tonight. stormtracker 6 double scan not nearly as active as two hours ago. pretty much clearing out one

loan cell over kent county, delaware. we had a lot of lightning strikes earlier. plenties of photos sent to my facebook and twit area act. this was sent by a 12-year-old in her hotel room center city looked out and you can see the twin lightning bolts captured that at the very moment they struck than lightning also kicked upwind. a lot of wind damage reports. chester county getting hit hard. numerous trees and wires down, montgomery county as well. northeast philadelphia reporting wind gusts of 66 miles an hour. camden county trees down and trenton reporting wind gusts of 60 miles an hour. all these storms in advance of cold front that sweeps through tomorrow and what the cold front will do as it moves east will kick hurricane arthur out to sea not before we tap into the moisture and that storm is making land fall as we speak.

for the latest, let's toss over to my colleague and friend adam joseph. adam. cecily the eye of arthur is about to make landfall near cape lookout north caroline as category two hurricane. there you can see the spin and eye of the storm here the edge and border of north carolina and heads towards cape hatteras before heading out to sea. winds 1 0 0 miles an hour northeast at 18 miles an hour and it's 110 smiles southwest of cape hatteras. as you look at wind field with this storm it's large right now. tropical storm force winds are well over 100 miles on eye and it will scrape the outer banks border of virginia and north carolina in wee hours of tomorrow morning 3 a.m. and you can see the tropical storm force wind in yellow do not make it up to ocean city and as it pulls

out to sea whipped expands a little mainly east of storm. you can see we don't get brushed by the tropical storm force winds. the only thing we'll see is impact with the front and arnl you're off the coast. it's some downpours and showers early tomorrow morning especially in new jersey and delaware along all of the beaches and anywhere from delaware to shore points and long beach island and 2:00 this afternoon clouds lag behind that. at the shore electric starts wet. clouds will exit by 7:00 along the entire delaware valley as well as lehigh valley. so, big improvement from morning to evening tomorrow. jim, when meteorologist cecily tynan comes back she'll talk about that fourth of july forecast and also give you you a better report for upcoming weekend. >> thank you, adam. >> let's switch live to "action news" reporter annie mccormick in accuweather. annie the huge crowds arrived. what's the attitude you about the potential buzz kill tomorrow morning because of arthur? >> reporter: well, jim, right

now we can feel the winds picking up a little bit and that cold front cecily was talking about is definitely coming in here and not dampening anybody's spirit. take a look at lights and boardwalk behind me aunt fog that's beginning to settle. even though arthur may not become unwelcomed guest at holiday festivities he's still affecting their plans. >> crowds to the boards and across the way ocean city's boardwalk was packed too it was family time fort nran began. >> go to the beach. eat, headed to the rides. >> weather almost kept them away. >> mid afternoon after i called my mother-in-law and she said the weather looked good. so we decided to drive down. >> on the beach 4-year-old makayla only had time for sand cassills. >> i like the beach. i love playing with sand. >> and next to the beach patrol guards only had the eyes on water waiting for effects of hurricane arthur.

in the process of making lands fall. reporter joel brown from sister station wtb d is braving elements on outer banks and shows us what it's like from kill devil hills. >> can i till we are starting to feel the first few drops of rain and outer bands of hurricane arthur and primarily this is overnight storm and worst of hurricane arthur and expected on outer banks in wee hours of morning and folks sheltered in place in kill devil hills are in for a late night. ocean behind me and surf rough. high tide comes midnight and if the storm makes land fall then it dramatically increases storm surge. we can see 3 to 5 feet of storm surge which puts highway twelve main road up and down the outer banks under a big layer of water and sand. emergency management officials are watching for that very closely. if there is some good news it is that this is a very fast moving storm. it should be in and out by

county and it's approaching salem county, new jersey. we had 15 lightning strikes associated with this. it's not severe. there are heavy downpours, thunder and lightning with this cell. temperaturewise, warm, humid, today's high 90. this is officially the first heat wave of the year. 76 in philadelphia. allentown 71. millville and boardwalk 75 and wilmington 73 degrees. satellite 6 and action radar showing all of these thunderstorms in advance of cold front. the actual cold front is right through central pennsylvania and clearing skies through west of the system and you can already see outer bands of arthur beginning to push up from the carolinas the latest on hurricane arthur is making land fall cape lookout north carolina. category 2. sustained winds 100 miles an hour accelerating northeast 18 miles an hour it will continue trajectory and so by tomorrow morning still maximum sustained

winds 100 miles an hour and category 2 hurricane and 200 miles offshore and problem at the jersey shore rip current, high surech. not only tomorrow but into saturday and we'll tap moisture in new jersey tomorrow morning. future tracker showing you wake up in the morning, lots of clouds. little on the damp side. few peaks of sunshine as we head through mid-morning early in the afternoon we see bands from arthur approaching the jersey shore. then as that storm system pulls away we'll clear care west to east through the afternoon by 7:00, philadelphia it will be clear it will be a little on the cool side. usually i'm out with rick and we sweat all night. tomorrow they want to bring a sweater. partly cloudy. normally breeze. 77, 77 for fireworks and breath of fresh air. if you head to the jersey shore pack suncreen and patience tomorrow it's not going to be nice beach day. a lot of rain early in the day.
