>> breaking news here on this friday morning, hurricane arthur made landfall in north carolina overnight we're live from the jersey shore with a warping from swimmers on -- warning from swimmers. >> it's been a night of strong storms, meteorologist david murphy is tracking arthur and the rain. >> happy birth day, america. philadelphia is celebrating with a sons certificate and parade and 6abc is the place to see it

all. >> many residents and tourists heeding the warning, arthur an unwelcomed here on america's birthday, we'll have a live report coming up from north carolina. >> good morning, everybody, happy birthday america, welcome back to tam. >> yes. >> let's go to david murphy and talk about what's going on with the weather. >> reporter: the big story is arthur. it's sir calculating toward the northern edge of north carolina he we have a string of rain that came in association with the cold front made use of the moisture available from the rotation of arthur. the storm itself is getting ready to pull off the coast of north carolina and shoot past our coastline. rain is in the northern suburbs, there are additional bands that will be tending to pop up the coast from arthur as the storms

gets closer, but we're looking for improvement in the afternoon. we have the flood watch in effect until noon today. there are no current flood warnings which is good news, but should we get a couple of bands coming in from arthur, there could be quick-rising water on roads, should that happen if we have the heavy rain today. rip current advisory down the shore, remember, if you get caught in one of these, don't panic, swim parallel to the beach north or south, you'll get out of the rip current and swim back to shore. temperatureses, 74 degrees in philadelphia. 72 in wilmington, 70 in allentown, 74 in sea isle city. maybe a few degrees cooler. might feel a tad humid, as we go through the day it's a day of improvement, 76 by 9:00 a.m., 77 by noon. we get into comfortable summertime temperatures, 79 by 3:00 p.m.

80 by 3:30. 77 by 6:00 p.m. the most important thing for the holiday there's rain around, maybe even at noon, but as we go through the afternoon we should see gradual clearing and drying and it should feel more comfortable. >> hurricane arthur is expected to venture off to sea, but impact the delaware and new jersey coastlines, officials are bracing for strong rip current. eva pilgrim is live in atlantic city, she has more. >> reporter: good morning, guys, the rain just let up, it was pouring down for about 30 minutes this morning. if you look out towards the beach and then the ocean, you can see the surf is really turned up, the whitecaps are pouring in this morning, while the jersey shore isn't expecting to get the brunt of hurricane arthur, he will have an impact on holiday festivities.

this is what it looked like yesterday, good looking outside, but arthur churned up the ocean and lifeguards kept people close to the beach. >> stay waist deep don't go further than that. we don't want boards drifting from the crowds or what not. >> reporter: taking a live look out here as the waves roll in in atlantic city, you can see those whitecaps pouring in, that is expected to be the case, again, the rules on the beach to keep people safe along the jersey shore. many of the shore towns are having to postpone the fireworks display because of how rough the water is. the fireworks are set off on a barge in the ocean, it's not safe to do that right now. here in atlantic city, the fireworks have been moved until

have rain tomorrow, it's america's birthday. >> he makes an excellent point, we'll experience showers this morning, but later on today, david i'm sure yiewld agree it's -- you would agree, it's going to be a 4th of the july, the second half of the day. >> reporter: we'll have a little bit of rain out there this morning, as we go in tighter. you can see there's heavier cells north and west of philadelphia, and heading in toward allentown out of lancaster. the stuff is on the move. it is pushing off toward the north, north/northeast. going back to the wide view a little bit more precipitation around philadelphia this is very light stuff in through parts of chester county and kind of skirting the northern edge of montgomery county. as we get get into the afternoon in particular, it looks like

things get better. stepping outside, we have sky 6 right now we are looking at mainly cloudy skies over the airport, got a little bit of break in the rain here, of course we had thunderstorms last night as expected, some of them were gusty. a lot of them dumped a lot of rain. the dewpoint up at 68. it's fairly high it still feels humid. but the winds are going to turn a little bit out of the north and as we go through the day, the human will drop. we have scattered showers and thunderstorms coming in, by noon, most of the area should be seeing and end to the rain with the exception of the areas right down by the shore. quickly after that, though, it does clear out, the story of the afternoon is going to be drying but the return of sunshine, that's the way things look weather wise in terms of precipitation. temperature-wise, 75 by 8:00 a.m., 77 by 11, perhaps a little damp in parts of the region. 2:00 p.m., clouds and sun across

the a good portion of the region, 80 degrees is your high today. it will not be as humid this afternoon which is nice. 5:00 p.m., parts of the area could be breaking out in sunshine and 79 degrees in philadelphia. not too shabby. as we head into the high temperature region or area for the entire region, 77 in allentown, 78 in reading, 76 is wrul wind up in -- where you will wind up in trenton. 76 in cape may and 76 in atlantic city. in terms of fireworks it will be a good show for everybody down at the parkway today, tonight i should say, 77 degrees by 7:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m., down to 70. is if you're going to a late fireworks show in the suburbs wouldn't be out of the question that you get into the upper 60s, good night for fireworks. there goes arthur, did make landfall as a category two, it's

category one right now. it's going to be pushing off the coast and and then probably stay as a category one always it moves past us. rip currents and high surf an issue down the shore and the morning rain. this is what future tracker is showing for saturday, nothing, looks beautiful this weekend. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, p.m. clearing, 80 degrees, it's going to be a great afternoon and night for fireworks. you just have to deal with the morning rain. sun on saturday, 83. sunday, 87. monday, breezy and hot, 94. and warm and humid on tuesday and wednesday. >> new jersey state police are investigating a deadly shooting in atlantic county. troopers say someone gunned down a man in his 30s late last

night. this happened in buena vista township. police found the victim lying dead near a running vehicle with two gunshot wounds to the neck. a crime scene unit continues to gather evidence this morning. philadelphia police charged a man whose mother was found dead in his freezer. he turned himself into police yesterday. else charged with abuse of the corporation. he has not been seen since the body of his mother was discovered tuesday in his feltenville home. medical examiner is waiting for the body to thaw before they determine how she died. it is believed they died in january. coming up next, we have more on arthur where it made landfall in north carolina overnight. >> a wolverene spotted, we'll tell you where

>> welcome back, let's take a look at some of the traffic cameras up there, volume, overall probably lighter today because of the holiday. northeast philadelphia. i-95 north of cottman, police activity cleared on the southbound shoulder. all the lanes are open and the traffic is light. southwest philadelphia i-95 by the airport, traffic moving well on that part of i-95. if you're trying to get to the airport, via the regional altrain you might have problems, we'll have updates on the mass transit issues. matt. >> reporter: happy birthday it's the 4th of july. not a lot of people expected at the airport, even though it's the busiest day of the week for flights. we have hurricane arthur right here on the flight explore

program. these are live images of where flights are right now. pilots are making beelines outside of the outer rims of hurricane arthur. it's kind of neat just to see how pilots take a different flight path, especially when you have a hurricane off the coast. that will calls trouble for some airports on the east coast, particularly washington, d.c., philadelphia and new york city could see delays and boston, could see delays, as well, as the hurricane moves out to sea. florida looking for thundershowers today particularly in miami. houston and dallas, fort worth could see thundershowers. phoenix, sky harbor international airport could see thundershowers break out there, you could see a delay or two on this 4th of july if you're heading out. tam back to you. >> well, hurricane arthur's first big punch is being felt on

north carolina's outer banks. marci gonzalez is there. >> reporter: hurricane arthur made landfall as a category 2 bringing widespread flooding and power outages and tornados. >> when i got my kids in the living room, i started to head to the, the ceiling was collapsing behind us. >> reporter: arthur moving north up the coast. more than 400 miles wide taking aim on the outer banks. on hatteras island evacuations were mandatory and elsewhere, many vacationers visiting for the july 4th weekend had to move out before the severe weather moved? moved in. >> we're packing up to safer grounds and hope they call us

>> welcome back, the action cam is taking a live look there at the stage set up for tonight's wawa welcome america concert, you can see it live by being there or by being in front of 6abc at 7:00 p.m. tonight. the weather is looking good if your heading to the park away and the concert and the fireworks. a north ridge student who died on a hiking trip believe hazing may have played a role in his death. he died on tuesday during an overnight trip with other members of a fraternity. he lost consciousness he his family believe he was left in the woods with no shoes or water and expected torched his way out. in utah, trail cameras captured a wolverene in the mountains.
