lit up the skies over the philadelphia museum of art. chopper6hd captured the magnificent display, a fitting way to cap off a week-long demonstration of america's 23th birthday. friday night, jim is off. i'm monica malpass and the big story on "action news" tonight is 4th of july celebration a day of fun turned into a night filled with fireworks and music across the region. the ben franklin parkway was packed with hundreds of thousands of visitstors for the annual philly 4th of july jam. the weather was perfect for this free concert and fireworks display. and a perfect night for stroll ago long the jersey shore.

atlantic city boardwalk packed with folks soaking up the last few hours of the 4th of july. but the celebrations will continue into the weekend at the shore. and we have your 4th of july celebrations covered tonight. "action news" reporter sharee williams is at the parkway with the wawa welcome america fans and annie mccormick live at the shore. melissa magee has more on the holiday weekend forecast. and first let's go back to rick williams and cecily tynan on the parkway where the 4th of july and jam fireworks wrapped up that was something else, guys. >> that was one of the best fireworks displays i think we've seen and music was great. >> wonderful con sglert we're getting tweetsw coming in saying it was the best show probably they've seen in years. a lot had to do with the weather. >> weather was so nice and cool and usually you're out here sweating than was so many people and the roots, the house band from philadelphia. >> roots were on fire. >> they were on fire and they kept the show going. they were so much fun. and i got a picture with weslo.

>> that's all you wanted. kicking things over the roots. best part of tonight we heard from a lot of performers we had not heard from like alo black does. >> he was great. >> sont takening. >> jennifer hudson was wonderful. nikki minaj. >> i'm so happy i was going to wear that exact same outfit nikki minaj wore. >> i am so glad i didn't. >> that would have been the big story on "action news". >> jennifer hudson was draet and nikki minaj may have gotten the biggest hand, of course, when she came out we heard from all of the young girls of course. >> that's true. >> it was quite an exciting right. and to top it all off we had the fireworks above the philadelphia museum art. so much ooing and awing and the skies completely clear. chopper 6 was able to show video like this what a great advantage point in it was great the fireworks started after they

all eyes to the sky in tredyffrin township. the place to be to see this great fireworks display. impressive show for the folks there. once the weather improved the party did too and there was still something missing a bit at some shore towns though. are dealing with remnants of hurricane arthur tonight after the storm made land fall earlier today. tens of thousands of folks are still without powner north carolina tonight. winds from the category 2 storm topped 100 miles an hour when it slammed between cape look out and beaufort. the storm was 5 neat some areas. it knocked out windows and damaged homes and few hours later people went back out on to the beach to celebrate 4th of july. >> tragic end to a serve for a boater that went miss in the delaware river. the 56-year-old's man body was recovered near delaware avenue and linden streetch the man was missing since wednesday when his sailboat capsized during a storm. four other people survived. a family was burned out of their west philadelphia home tonight. this is the scene 7:30 p.m. along 6100 block of chestnut street. firefighters arrived and found smoke coming from the two story

house. everyone got out okay and the home suffered significant damage. firefighters were able to save the family pet, a cat, and return it to its owner. >> time for health check at 11. a large new study is linking high cholesterol to a higher risk of breast cancer. researchers looked at 660,000 women in england for more than a decade. data showed high cholesterol increased chance of developing disease by 64%. now findings suggest that many cases of breast cancer could be avoided by controlling cholesterol with medication. scores of communities hosted their own independence day celebrations today. king of prussia families gather philadelphia on all carnival in haser park. fun rides like a giant slide and mini go cart course for kids and plenty of food to go around and folks spread out on the grass for a picnic. somewhat dreary start to the
