report. >> philadelphia police are searching for the gunman responsible for shooting two teenagers overnight. plus, rain puts a damper on 4th of july celebrations down the shore. but first, let's check in with meteorologist chris sowers for a look at the accuweather forecast. the rain is gone. >> reporter: le rain is long gone. let's step outside we have lots of sunshine, hurricane arthur up in the canadian maritimes at this point. it's not pestering us. i was at a afternoon boosh cue yesterday -- barbecue yesterday and it was chilly. 60 degrees in millville. atlantic city, 63. 69 in allentown, 59 in reading. lancaster, 57. there's the end of it. there's the cloud deck the far

southwestern end of that pushing into new england. that sets the stage for a gorgeous day. high pressure out of the west, lots of sunshine, maybe the occasional puffy cumulus clouds developing here, for the most partly we'll see sunny skies. sunburn will occur in 15 minutes, apply the sunscreen, temperatures around 80 degrees by lunchtime topping out around 83 by 3, 4:00 p.m. if you're heading to the jersey shore we have a high surf advisory, waves beating the beaches 4 to 6 feet. we'll see the dangerous rip currents continue from seaside heights all the way down to the delaware beaches. i'm have more on this in the seven-day forecast when i come back in just a bit. >> the big story on "action news" saturday morning is breaking news. four children have died after nearly a dozen row homes went up in flames in a three-alarm blaze overnight. kenneth moten joins us live from the scene with the details,

kenneth. >> reporter: well, eva, we just got an update from the fire commissioner moments ago let me step aside and show you the scene on the the 6500 block of gestner street. you can see the damaged row homes. i want to give you that address, 6500 block gestner street. the fire commissioner confirmed four small children are dead. the fire broke out at 3:00 a.m. here. the fire spread to 8 homes. once again, the tragedy is the lives lost. 24-year-old girls we have learned are twins, a 4-year-old boy and 1-month-old boy were killed. two 11-year-old girls treated for smoke at the scene. and one woman treated by 1th

district for smoke inhalation. the fire broke out at the 3:00 a.m. hour in southwest philadelphia. we understand it was fast-moving on this block. we understand that the children were trapped inside. people tried to get them out. the witnesses told us they were working as fast as possible to get the children out, but they could not reach them. firefighters rushed to the scene, they tried to get to the children who were trapped inside several of those row homes. 8 row homes we understand are damaged in the fast-moving fire, right now the fire commissioner gave us an update here's what he had to say. >> we do not know what how's it started in. we're in the process of conducting a conducting an investigation because of amount of fire and heat.

fires are going to spread quicker in the summertime. >> reporter: and once again, as you look live at the scene, firefighters have the scene under control, but we have a tragedy this morning, once again, let me give you the ages, 2, 4-year-old girl also, 4-year-old boy and 1-month-old boy were killed in the fire. as you can imagine the family members on the scene are grief stricken. a lot of them yelling out on the street. the firefighters grieving also at this point with the family members as they have been trying to do what they can to make sure the scene is as safe as possible to make sure the other row homes did not spread to them. we're gathering more information, as soon as we have it we'll pass it on to you,

kenneth moten channel 6 "action news." >> thanks, kenneth. new this morning, two teens are shot and police are looking for the person who pulled the trigger. the gunfire broke out on the 2,000 block of east atlantic street in port richmond. an 18-year-old and 15-year-old were shot in the leg. the motive is under investigation. a man is run down by a car in west oak lane and police say the female driver did it on purpose. it happened on fayette street around 9:30. the man was rushed to albert einstein medical center, police are trying to figure out exactly what set all of this off. the 3-year-old crushed by a security gate that fell outside a ritas in philadelphia's brewy town section will be laid to rest today. a public viewing will be held for wynter larkin at 230 west

tail end of hurricane arthur which is pulling north into the canadian maritimes. it's a cool canadian breeze. the fact that the dewpoints are low, it's going to feel chilly this morning. here's what else left of arthur. it's spinning across maine, augusta, portland. this will sit and spin and pull off to the north. there's new jersey and philadelphia down in the lower left-hand side of the screen. you can see how far away it is, and it continues to pull away. future tracker 6 not showing much of anything tomorrow. we get into sunday, same thing. more sunshine tomorrow. we have high, thin clouds work across the sky as the afternoon warms on. we get into monday, the warm front punches through. that will trigger showers and thunderstorms. monday turns hazy hot and humid easily into the mid 90s.

>> reporter: welcome back everyone, 6:24 saturday morning, time for the boat report, we'll start with satellite and radar, here's what's left of hurricane arthur yesterday evening, as the storm passed on by, winds shifted out of the northwest. that prevented temperatures from climbing. with the dewpoints climbing like they did, high temperatures topped out in the 70s. there it is now it's long gone it's up in the canadian maritimes in new england we're left with sunny skies. there's a small craft advisory in effect on the delaware bay, we're seeing sustained winds apt 1 miles per hour. waves 2 to 3 feet.

dealing with on this active scene this morning, there's a fire truck with a large ladder monitoring the hot spots, truly a tragic scene on the 6500 block of gestner street. the fire commissioner confirmed four small children dead a fire broke out spreading to 8 row homes. several people were able to get out, but the four small victims were not able to escape the fire. two 4-year-old girls who were twins, 4-year-old boy and 1-month-old boy were killed. 2 girls treated at the scene for smoke by medics. there's a large amount of grief on the scene. inconsolable family members are being looked after by red cross. the fire commissioner gave us an

update moments ago about this tragic scene. >> it's a tragic day for the city of philadelphia. we lost 4 children. the original engine company 40 got here a minute later. four dwellings were involved. we wind up losing 8 homes today. and those children have been located who were killed in the last moving fire on gestner street in southwest philadelphia. two four-year-old girls, twins, a 4-year-old boy and 1-month-old boy was killed. they have been located in the home. several homes were damaged, red cross is helping those families, a large number of families

firefighters arrived torched flames shooting from the -- to find flames shooting from the first floor. the neighbor said he smelled smoke and jumped into action. >> the first thing i thought, people are in there, i kicked in the front door in, i banged and got the people out. there were people on all three floors. >> reporter: all three floors were damaged. no word on the cause of the fire. new a car crashes into a northeast philadelphia apartment building this morning, police are looking for the driver. two apartments were severely damaged in a late night wreck near red lion. no reports of any injuries. 6:35, the 4th of july week was capped off in grand style. check out this massive fireworks display that lit up the night skies is at the philadelphia museum of art. chopper 6 captured the unique display. it was a fitting way to cap off the week long celebration of

>> the effects of hurricane arthur rained out 4th of july plans across new england, but no communities felt that more than bedford, massachusetts. the flooding created unsafe conditions. there was no shortage of holiday spirit as some good samaritans were seen pushing cars out of the flooding. looks like they are having fun sharing a trash bag, too. you can see the damage hurricane arthur left behind in north carolina, an aerial tour along chris tall coast shows boats

along the shoreline. trees were snapped and this area saw category storm with winds at 110 miles per hour. "good morning america" will have more on the aftermath of hurricane arthur. "good morning america" weekend is next, immediately following this broadcast at 8:00 a.m. and we are still seeing rip currents and swells for people at the shore and going to the beach today. >> reporter: this is going to be one of the problems, we'll not be dealing with long track storms that will take days to approach the mainlands. they will be close to the coast because the waters is so warm for this time of year. it will not give us much warning or time. same thing with arthur. it developed off the coast of

florida. we're dealing with rough surf. quite a bit of wave action. it stayed hundreds of miles out to sea, it did intensify it was a category two at one point as it made landfall over north carolina. now that arthur has pulled away things have quieted down dramatically with the exception of the ocean. 64 degrees, dewpoints are in the 40s, that feels pretty refreshing. winds out of the northwest at 14 miles per hour. it will be breezy. pressure 30.16. 50s northwest low 60s south and east. philadelphia, 64. sea isle, 63. trenton, 61. these are sustained wind speeds or constant out of the west/northwest in this direction 10 to 15 miles per hour. every now and then we get gusts

as high as 25 miles per hour. here's the latest on arthur, it continues to pull away, well-defined eye, it continues to pull away to the north away from the delaware valley. there's the back edge that left us with nothing but clear skies from this point on. this frontal system will kick arthur well out to sea. it's pleasant with high pressure in control today. as we move into sunday, that high is in control, but it driferlts to -- drifts to the southeast. that means the return flow will starting point to warm us up. once we get into monday that warm front lifts through we're in the soup again. heatz hot and humid, high -- hazy, hot and humid, high temperatures in the mid 90s. we'll have feels-like temperatures or heat indices close to 100. strong rip currents at the shore, be careful of that if

you're heading into the water. breezy on the sand. sunday, sunny and nice, temperatures close to 80. let's suppose for a second you're in the water and you encounter a rip current. that water has to come 0 back out, you feel yourself swimming against this sudden rush of water that's pulling you out. let it pull you out. as its doing so, swim parallel to the beach just like that until you feel that are you're out of the rip current. you don't want to fight that current you're not going to win it's a losing battle. swim parallel to the beach until you get out of the rip current and get to the shore. winds out of the north northwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour. 65 in the outlighting suburbs, 6
