out the passenger door of her car and you can see in south jersey those storm clouds starting to build late last evening and in coatesville, pennsylvania, kate shows us this picture of a tree that snapped off and went right in the middle of the pool. got some cleanup there before you can do some swimming but those storms are gone. we have a little bit of a shower down the shore, no thunder out of that and later today we are just looking at the atmosphere, still warm and humid and there's the possibility of a couple of more pop-up showers and perhaps a gusty storm or two. 73 currently in philadelphia and outside of south jersey we are dry across the region. 65 in allentown, 67 in reading. still humid out there as you step outside and as we roll through the day it's going to be another warm and sticky one. 76 degrees by chin in inclock, by noon 85 and by 3 o'clock 89 and that will probably be your high. if we hit 90 it would be another heat wave but it looks like we might just miss that and then 85 degrees by 6 o'clock. most of our shower and thunderstorm activity today is spotty and mainly centered in the afternoon. i'll have more on future tracker 6 in a second, matt,

showing us that and we'll have word of better weather toward the end of the week. >> sounds good, david. bumpy night is leading to a bump in the road for the morning commute and some bumps on the rails. we have some septa issues. no service rider now on the septa chestnut hill east regional rail line. you can use the chestnut hill west as a possible alternate. also the fox chase line is only operating to cheltenham this morning and septa's 101 trolley is shuttle busing between the 69th street terminal and woodland avenue again because of the damage from last night's storms. outside we go, it's camera time along the schuylkill expressway. here close to spring garden street the road is drying out but as you come out of the neighborhoods you'll be dodging some of those tree limbs and things like that. mlk drive on the right side of the screen looks good but on the kelly drive traffic lights are still out there at sedgley drive so treat that like a four-way stop. a crash early this morning in abington township. vehicle into a pole along 611 at gurnsey.

the downed tree on 295 southbound past rancocas woods is out of there, matt. >> thanks matt. "action news" crews were out overnight gathering new video of the heavy damage from those gusty storms last night. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in the city's mount airy section, one of many areas that has some cleaning up to do. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, matt. the storms were just fierce and here in this parking lot on east mount airy avenue you can see quite a bit of damage when a part of this tree came crashing down on top of these cars here, took down power lines as well residents around here and across our area have been dealing with power outages and property damage. trees down, power out after storms raced across our area last night. in chadds ford a tree came crashing down, this one onto cars parked on the 400 block of baltimore pike. owners were out taking stock of the damage. >> i haven't looked at mine yet but her car has broken windshield, damage to the fender and hood. >> reporter: the road was blocked on the 8300 block of

mansfield in mount airy. a telephone pole had split, wires were hanging low. drivers were weeks ago diverted. in east mount airy a heavy branch dropped down to the 600 block of vernon and landed right on top of a white mustang parked below. in wissinoming the storms were strong enough to tap pell this massive tree. it fell across the roadway on the 4500 block of mckinley street. neighbors said it all seemed to happen in slow motion. >> a big gust of wind just came. then we seen this tree just tip over. >> reporter: and back here live on the 300 block of east mount airy you can see some of this tree has already been chopped up into logs and sectioned off nearby. we have seen peco crews around. they have been working here and across the area trying to get the power back on. we're live in mount airy, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> thanks so much katherine. you can keep track track of the accuweather forecast by downloading our free storm tracker 6 a it gives you

access to live radar, the hourly forecast and weather alerts posted for your area. >> fire officials have released a time line they say shows that firefighters responded quickly to that deadly southwest philadelphia blaze over the weekend. the weekend fire on gesner street killed four small children. angry residents said it took much too long for firefighters to get to the scene but officials say the fire department got the first call at 2:44 a.m. and one minute, eight seconds later the first engine was dispatched. less than a minute later a firefighter from a nearby firehouse called for reinforcements. one minute 27 seconds later ladder four arrived. that was about three minutes after the first call. liberia's ambassador to the united states toured the fire scene last night. he says he came to philadelphia to comfort the families and urge calm in the grieving community. >> how can we move from this

place forward? how can we prevent this kind of thing from happening? it is this family today. it could be another family tomorrow. now, what lesson do we learn from this? >> congressman bob brady accompanied the ambassador in a meeting with the victims' families. brady says his office will help with any immigration issues that may arise with paperwork lost in the blaze. >> happening today, president obama will meet with texas governor rick perry during a visit to the state today to discuss the humanitarian crisis along its border with mexico. leaders and religious leaders will be there for this bipartisan meeting in dallas. more than 52,000 children in central america have illegally crossed the u.s. border. just yesterday the president asked for $3.7 billion in emergency spending from congress to get more resources to the border. >> well, last night was pretty scary. >> yeah. it woke me up. >> woke me up, too you.

>> slept through it. >> you know what, matt it only took like 10 minutes. >> yeah, it was quick. >> like a big burst of rain and wind and then it was gone. storm tracker 6 live double scan shows that we're mainly dry right now. although in south jersey there's a bit of a shower popping through and i'll show that you closer view. you can see that there's some heavy cells popping through cape may county right now and just about to push into atlantic county but this stuff doesn't take all that long and for now anyway we're not seeing any lightning from it so a little bit of moisture this morning, won't last all that much longer. taking a look outside and we have sky 6 and there's some partial clearing going on over the ben franklin bridge above camden and northeast philadelphia in the distance and of course over center city as well. 73 degrees currently in philadelphia, 65 degrees in allentown, 67 in reading, 70 in trenton, 74 in wilmington and 72 in sea isle city. still a bit humid out there. your precipitation call for this morning, well, not too much. maybe a little passing sprinkle or shower here or there once we get rid of that immediate stuff in south jersey but as we get into the afternoon there's the chance

of another round of spotty but potentially gusty thunderstorms here or there. probably won't take all that long to get through and not everybody sees them. by 6 o'clock it's fairly scattered but again there is that chance but i want you to take cover if you hear thunder later today or if you have that storm tracker 6 app on your smartphone and you see something popping up. some of these could not only feature lightning but gusty wind. partly sunny, 87 degrees. we can't totally rule out a passing shower or storm. i don't think that's the majority of the day but it's possible every now and then. at the shore partly sunny, a spotty thunderstorm can't be ruled out here as well, 81 by noon and 84 on the beach by 3 o'clock. u.v. index will be high when it isn't clouding over with a storm because we're all looking at that partly sunny sky cover. in philadelphia 89 degrees, partly sunny, spotty storms possible during the afternoon as you saw and winds still somewhat of a factor today. it's going to be warm. 76 degrees by 8 o'clock, already in the 80's by 11

'cause you know what they say about the red sky in the morning. >> yeah. >> that doesn't bode well because we're still trying to pick up the pieces from last night and the storms that went through. we still have some damage this morning, matt and erin here in the burbs in cherry hill covered bridge road remains shut down between oxford avenue because of downed wires. pine valley road gets you around that. a downed tree along 295 luckily that's out of the way. abington township a vehicle ran into a pole along 611 which is old york road at gurnsey avenue by village cleanersly here's a construction update. a new project start dag in chester county. tredyffrin and east town townships they'll be resurfacing route 30 so that's going to be good news for a lot of you but before the

finished product you have to deal with some restrictions. they'll work mid days 9 o'clock until 3 o'clock as well as overnights 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and it's a long stretch between 252 and old eagle school road so watch out for restrictions there. camera time in chester county in the malvern area, this is 202. looks like we have a disabled vehicle on the northbound side approaching 29 mostly off to the side. southbound this weekend they're shifting the southbound lanes onto this new pavement here between 252 and 401. the middle of the roadway going to be blocked as they work onsetting up a new barrier so that change is coming this weekend and you know how i like to keep you abreast of these sorts of things. in horsham, pothole in the road. it's our commuter report. one of our friends say lower state road in horsham township watch outer for that hole in the roadway. matt. >> two sky divers had a close brush with death in perkasie bucks county. their parachute malfunctioned causing them to hit the ground

harmed the sky divers had flown out of pennridge airport. both suffered serious injuries but survived the fall. >> happening today a court hearing for curtis reeves, jr. the man accused of killing another man in a theater. today's hearing could set a fall date for the murder trial. police say reeves shot 43-year-old chad olson to death in january over the victim's refusal to stop texting his daughter's babysitter during movie previews. reeves's lawyers say reeves fired in self-defense. the defendant is in jail. a judge has denied his request for bail. a missouri woman is living a scene out of a horror film. katrina mcghaw says she discovered a serial killer once lived in the home she was renting. she only found out after seeing a documentary about the killer, maury travis. travis recorded some of the crimes that happened

downstairs. >> it was basically his torture chamber and it's not okay. >> the landlord turns out to be the killer's mother. she refused to let mcghaw out of the lease. missouri law does not require landlords to disclose violent crimes that occur in homes but the saint louis housing authority has stepped in to help mcghaw break the lease. >> the netherlands and argentina will play their world cup semifinal match today. the winner gets to play germany which absolutely destroyed the host country of brazil. the brazilians looked confused and later shockedy shocked and defeated as germany scored again and again. the explosive german attack just picked apart the brazilian defense. final score seven to one which in soccer is an epic blowout. it's the worst loss for a host country team in world cup history. phillies got off to a rough start in milwaukee. pitcher kyle kendrick gave up two home ertz in the first

>> line of severe thunderstorms that barreled through our region hit northern ohio first spawning two tornadoes. the national weather service rated both ef1 tornadoes with winds up to 94 miles per hour. the path of instruction was nearly seven and a half miles long. much of the damage involved trees that were knocked down or uprooted. >> hm. >> some of our downed trees and other problems from last night's storms we're still picking up the pieces this morning. on the regional rails we've got a cancellation of the chestnut hill east line, chestnut hill west is running

working out. a spanish study found athletes who took caffeine before working out burned about 15 percent more calories hours after exercising. it's not clear if the caffeine provides a boost to workout harder or if it's an effect from the substance being in the blood stream. coffee has already been linked to increased circulation and reduced post workout pain. a new study finds a less invasive approach to replacing failed heart valves in high risk patients. when a surgically replaced heart valve fails, many patients can be treated with medications or undergo another surgery to replace the damaged valve. but high risk patients including those who are older and have other serious illnesses may not be able to survive another surgery. in this study researchers inserted a new valve inside the failed valve using a catheter. >> a european car maker is shutting out people who use android phones. abc's renna ninan has that

it's wednesday, 5:25, cape may new jersey, live on sky 6. getting up to 85 degrees there in cape may so it's going to be a little cooler than it is around philadelphia. we're looking for a high of 90 degrees. a lot of people could see some more thundershowers later on today. students at pennsylvania's 14 state owned universities will see a tuition increase this fall. the board of state system of higher education voted to hike tuition by $99 a semester. for full time students who are pennsylvania residents that adds up to $3,410 per semester. >> time for the morning buzz. it is summer time so a lot of people are spending time at water parks going down water slides. the world's tallest water slide is scheduled to open tomorrow in kansas city kansas. the official launch of the verruckt water slide was delayed three times in order to allow for more testing which doesn't make you feel

storm tracker 6 live double scan radar will be scanning the chance for more storms later today. good morning everyone, 5:30 on this wednesday. tam is off, erin o'hearn joins us. david is here along with matt who is until for karen. good morning. >> we have breaks in the clouds across parts of the region. in extreme south jersey there are a couple showers popping through right now, no lightning with that currently and out to the west not a lot going on just yet but it will be warm, humid a bit unstable and through the afternoon in particular we'll be looking at a couple more spotty thunderstorms. 73 degrees in philadelphia right now, dry in the city. 65 in allentown. 67 in reading, 74 in wilmington and 73 in sea isle city and down the shore you have some of those morning showers for at least another hour or maybe a little more than that. 72 by 6:00 a.m., 76 by 8:00, partly cloudy and warm as you head out the door over the next several hours. and it stays warm and a bit sticky today. 79 degrees by 9 o'clock. 85 by noon. and then we're up close to 90 by 3 o'clock. that is your high of 89 today and
