david and change is one word to describe what's going on today, karen. >> that's rightly it's a day of transition absolutely but -- there you go. we're looking at storm tracker 6 live double scan and we can see we're starting off with some showers, a even period of heavier rain as you look to the south. we're not exacting done with this yet. we have to go in closer and we can see in dover in fortescue i'm not getting any lightning at this point but you see areas of yellow and red really heavy downpours still happening right now and we can see this stretching through mays landing, atlantic city and medford lakes an area that's been hit so hard over the past couple days and we can watch this movement slowly drifting off to the east-northeast so moving very slowly at this point. what we're watching on double scan. now as we take a wider look we can see the bulk of yesterday's storms they're long gone. we're peppered with some showers. we'll seer early cloud cover and showers. you can see the back edge of this front is still to our west. that has to clear before we're completely done with all this.

a shower around, clouds around, 73 degrees right now in philadelphia. looking at the day ahead, by the afternoon that's when the good stuff comes at you. so, the clouds will break later today. it's not going to be as hot. yesterday we were in the 90's again so we actually have our second heat wave of the season. we're breaking that today with a high of 85 and more comfortable humidity by the end of the day as welly details on that seven day coming right up, tam. >> thank you karen. philadelphia police say charges could be filed as early as today in the murder of a young woman found stuffed in a duffle bag. police are questioning a person of interest. cath ron scott is live in mantua with a update on the case. good morning. >> reporter: gong, tam. as police question that person of interest they're awaiting a search warrant still trying to locate that murder scene, find any evidence that will help in this investigation. you can see there's a police vehicle parked outside this apartment building. there's been a police vehicle here all night long as they await that warrant.

twenty three year old laura araujo and the person of interest in her murder lived in the same apartment building at 40th and brown in mantua. she was a recent graduate of the art institute of philadelphia. she was born and raced in new york city. araujo was found monday morning in kensington beaten strangled and stuffed into a duffle bag. homicide detectives say her hands and feet had been bound she was placed a trash bag and wrapped in a blanket before being put in that duffle bag. she was dead four to eight hours before being discovered. she had moved out of a home on eighth and diamond where she lived with two roommates and had been looking for more permanent quarters. >> she was a religious individual, very selective with the type of friends and the people she related to most of the time, most of her friends were related to church and people she know and trust

well. >> reporter: investigators believe araujo's murderer set her toyota rav4 on fire to cover his or her tracks. "action news" has learned the 23 year old person of interest has burns all over his body. he was picked up at crozer chester medical center. the name that of person of interest has not been released but again we're hearing that charges could be filed as early as this morning. we're live in mantua, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> katherine thank you for that. new this morning philadelphia police are working with the fbi to track down a bank robber. these are new. matches of the suspect at the american heritage federal credit union in frankford yesterday. investigators say the bandit handed the teller a threatening note and then got away with cash. anyone who spots the suspect should not approach him. instead call 911 immediately. >> also new this morning a camden county father is in jail because police say a loaded handgun was found in

his 11-month-old daughter's nursery bag at her day care center in the city of camden. investigators say the weapon was stolen from someone in philadelphia. the father, 25-year-old rakim williams of lindenwold is being held on $50,000 bail. williams has a prior conviction for drug distribution. the fbi and police wants to find something buried in a camden neighborhood. they just aren't saying exactly what they are looking for. but 10 hour long search yesterday involved dozens of agents plus jackhammers and heavy machinery like backhoes. the excavation site is clustered behind homes on the 300 block of eerie street. neighbors say they were looking in the basement of a home. "action news" has learned the search involves a cold case murder dating back almost a decade. >> ♪ >> developing now there were more air strikes overnight in the middle east. israel is hitting back after hamas rejected an egyptian plan for a truce. israel's prime minister is now giving his military authorization to use "full force" against militants in

gaza uaw c's tahman bradley has the latest. >> reporter: rockets fill the sky over gaza. israel threatening to intensify its attack against hamas. [speaking foreign language] >> reporter: in northern gaza, the israeli military warned palestinians to clear out more attacks are imminent. the message was delivered using automated calls text messages. about 20 percent of gaza city's 500,000 residents were given eight hours to leave its not clear where they're headed. all un shelters are full. the it rally air strikes removed after hamas rejected a ceasefire proposal and launched rockets from gaza. many palestinians want the fighting to continue. >> i want to continue defending our right. it's not just sending rockets without meaning. >> reporter: the death toll is rising. health officials in gaza say almost 200 civilians have been killed.

israel suffered its first casualty when a man who was trying to deliver food to soldiers was hit by a mortar. the obama administration says israel has a right to defend itself and it's up to hamas to end the violence. >> we would like to see hamas accept the terms of the ceasefire agreement. >> reporter: a u.s. isn't it committee vote d to double american aid to israel for its iron dome defense system used to intercept rockets. tahman bradley abc news washington. >> "good morning america" will continue our coverage of the crisis in the middle east right after "action news." >> for your first look of business on this wednesday morning here we are at the big board. the federal government wants car makers to come clean on gas mileage claims. the epa may soon require car makers to road test their cars to make sure the fuel economy numbers are accurate. currently 85 percent of all cars on the road are tested by the car companies using computer models and wind tunnels not actual road tests.

a hike in the so-called september 11th security fee will make it more expensive to fly in some cases by as much as $22. the fee helps fund the transportation security administration but the extra money from the increase will not go to the tsa, it will go to the u.s. treasury to help pay down the federal deficit. stocks were mostly down on wall street on tuesday. u.s. futures are mixed about five hours from that opening bell. pennsylvania based hershey is raising its candy prices by up to 8%. the company blames the price hike on the higher cost of ingredients and transportation. tam. >> all right, thank you, matt. another local hospital is saying no to hiring smokers. as of july 1st, doylestown hospital is testing all job applicants for nicotine. those who use it will not get hired. the hospital bans smoking from the grounds seven years ago but took this step to make sure that the campus is truly smoke free. >> 4:38 now. a health scare in washington state is now worse than first thought. more than 200 people are sick after being exposed to a

>> breaking right now a man and a woman were injured in a crash on the roosevelt boulevard near grant avenue in northeast philadelphia and the action cam is there live at the scene. police say the driver lost control in the southbound lanes at around 3:30 a.m., flipped over and knocked down a utility pole. police remain on the scene. the northbound lanes of the boulevard's outer drive remain blocked right now. matt pelman will have an update a little later in traffic. >> now let's take a look at this new video this morning. a sea plane nearly landed on a humpback whale in alaska. a witness got the whole thing on camera. it appears the plane was going collide with the whale which was swimming just under the surface. you can see the whale clearing its blow hole there and it drenches the plane's windshield. the pilot managed to advance the throttle and pull up getting just enough to avoid the mammal. the plane landed seconds later. >> a good thing that that was a miss. >> that's right. >> it's going to almost feel cool today, right. >> it's going to be a lot better than it has for sure. >> thankfully.

>> but we're starting off really humid and lots of clouds. by the afternoon i think you might like it. let's take a look right now storm tracker 6 live double scan around the region right now. we're still watching this area of not even just showers but some heavy downpours. we're seeing indicated by the yellow and the red. let's go ahead and take a closer look here with our street level view. we can see in dover in fortescue, in millville really getting soaked at this point. it's moving pretty slowly to the northeast. elmer you're about to get hit a little harder in ham upon ton you're getting it along the a.c. expressway, along 55, medford lakes, an area near burlington county hit so hard but you can see zero lightning total strikes. not talking thunderstorms but still heavy rain. this is that front trying to clear. hasn't happened yet. let's take you outside and see what it looks like right now as we go live on sky 6 in hd and you can see lots of clouds up above as we look at this shot so you are dealing with a lot of cloud cover this morning and certainly muggy conditions. let's look right now at the current conditions.

temperatures 73, the dewpoint is 68. so, pretty humid in a lot of areas and some spots feeling oppressively humid at this early hour. winds are light and the pressure is falling with that area of low pressure tracking through am i want to show you the dewpoints around the area, 72 in millville, 70's in dover and a ac especially south and east of the city oppressive humidity but by the afternoon the humidity drops and the clouds break. satellite 6 and action radar showing we still have to deal with this flow. this is the back edge of the front and you see these showers riding along it. not looking at severe weather. at this point it's not looking like thunderstorms but watching that pretty closely because i wouldn't be surprised to see that develop in south jersey but we are seeing the end of this slowly and we can show you on future tracker 6 what it's going to look like at 9:30, we're still left with some showers in spots south and east of the city. still pretty cloudy in philadelphia. but by lunchtime the clouds are trying to clear out of here. so, today is a day where you're at the shore you might

want to wait until later in the day before you head out because we're looking at morning thundershowers, late sunshine. by 11:00 a.m. about 78. by 3:00 p.m. 81 degrees and that cold ocean water temperature. so by the end of the day things get better. here's a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day. starting with lots of clouds and some showers in spots theny and then we get some sunshine by day's end but it's going to take the second half of the day to really improve. it's not until the after that the humidity drops. look tag high of 85, temperatures only a couple degrees below average. refreshing tomorrow. we're looking at temperatures that are going to be good in the mid 80's and partly sunny skies. friday is still nice at this point no longer looking at a thunderstorm on friday. looks like we're clear. saturday partly sunny and saturday is now looking dry with highs about 84, 85 degrees. sunday clouds and sun and that's the chance for a couple of showers or thunderstorms so that's a bit of a change for your weekend. monday warm and muggy again and 87. and on tuesday t-as well, feeling kind of humid and partly sunny skies and monday

and tuesday chance for a shower or a thunderstorm. so, we are clearing it out of here but it's going to take the first half of the day to get things better. >> okay. worth the wait. >> yeah. >> thank you karen. new video this morning showing president obama trying out a virtual car. it happened as the president toured a federal highway research center in northern virginia. he observed developing technologies that would make cars smart enough to know whether another vehicle is coming around a blind corner. this brand new story is about someone who took a real car for a ride when he shouldn't have. someone called 911 in washington county wisconsin complaining about a car going the wrong way sunday. as it turns out, a nine-year-old boy had taken his step dad's car for a joyride with a four-year-old sitting next to him. the boy eventually drove into a ditch. you sigh the tire tracks. last month the same boys took off with another stolen car. investigators are considering possible child neglect charges. >> a small lake in washington state is closed to swimmers now that more than 200

visitors to the lake came down with a stomach illness over the weekend. officials from the center for disease control have taken samples of the water at horseshoe lake in the town of port orchard to find the cause. the victims have had intense stomach problems for about 24 hours that have included vomiting. one woman suspects the problem might be caused by many of the swimmers themselves. >> you go down to the beach and you hear the moms tell the kids just go at the bathroom in the lake. >> officials have ruled out a norovirus. they hope to know the cause of what's going on here by sometime today. >> 4:47. up next more news you didn't see last night. the kkk has a new recruitment strategy in the south. it involves an issue that has been raging in the headlines across the country. >> new york's firefighters are showing their feminine side in this year's calendar of heroes. we'll explain a little later when "action news" continues. >> and the investigation into a woman whose body was found stuffed in a duffle bag our top story on our 6abc app.

the inner drive. let's go to 95 at girardly overnight construction crews are gone from the southbound lanes. no delays coming from bucks county or northeast philadelphia. matt. >> thanks tam. 4:51. it is midweek, it is wednesday morning. let's talk about your travel forecast. la guardia international airport in new york city has the most cancellations at this moment out of any other airport across the country, 25 right now. j.f.k. with 17 cancellations and newark liberty with 10 cancellations because of the lingering thundershowers that are moving across the area and also affecting some parts of our area. so, new york city could be a place that you could see some delays particularly in the morning along with philadelphia. in boston they're expecting some heavy thundershowers and so logan international could cause you some problems if you're traveling out of there. notice i don't have atlanta posted. hartsfield-jackson looks good but florida seeing some thundershowers and so any of the airports down there particularly miami could see a travel delay there. out in the midwest detroit is the only place where we could see some weather related delays. thundershowers possible but chicago and minneapolis look

found in a duffle bag. >> a slip of the foot turns into a trip to the hospital for a man in philadelphia overnight. >> a delaware county teen has an amazing story of survival after he was struck by lightning in monday's storms. >> let's talk about today's forecast. getting betterment karen is filling in for david and matt is following traffic. good morning. >> good morning. we just have to get through the first half of the day where we're stuck with a lot of cloud cover, still pretty high humidity and as you can see with storm tracker 6 live double scan still dealing with some rain in the area, mostly south and east of the city of philadelphia and that's really where we had this one cell we've been tracking with double scan. it's left over but in fortescue, millville you're getting really good soaking rain at this point and it's moving pretty slowly to the east-northeast headed towards glassboro and hammonton, mays landing as well. if you're on the atlantic city, if you're on route 55 you're getting soaked right now and you're about to get more wet as that rain comes in. through hammonton and medford lakes getting the rain as well.
