boarder. malaysian flight 17 traveling from amsterdam to malaysia was traveling at what is believed to be 33,000 feet, lost contact with the boeing 777. now analysis says that it was brought down by a sophisticated missile but it's unclear where it was fired from and who is responsible. the pilot likely had to time to reactment. >> this came out of nowhere and there was no warning, the scene is unfolding where ukraine and pro russian rebels and the ukraine is escalating. recent days russia shot down two planes. the president says today that the u.s. will help with the crash investigation. >> and as a country our thoughts and prayer are with all the families and the passengers wherever they call home. >> this another nightmare

sad for their fellow ukrainians and dealing with this now in this already troubled area of the world. >> oh, no. >> this is mark's reaction after hearing that a passenger jet crashed in the ukraine. the executive director of ukrainian cultural and education center. he says if it was shot down the most likely culprit is the russian military. >> the most likely scenario is that it was shot down by the russian military, i don't know if the separatists have access to these types of weapons. >> there has been a violence pro russian uprising, and the tensions have increased. and there were other incidents where ukrainian aircraft were shot down and then too they blamed the russian military. >> and then the last three or four days, a number of ukrainian

planes are shot down and most of that was by the russian military. >> leo is a professor of eastern european studies and is from ukraine, he says this could make the situation even worse but hopes it helps get the world's attention to the ongoing conflict. >> now the world will focus on this, and say stop, you can't do this. you are on the verge participating a world war if you keep this up. >> so not surprisingly a lots of finger pointing on all sides, it's still unknown who exactly must have caused this, it's ukrainian community is planning a protest tomorrow evening, a protest for what they are calling an escalation on russian aggression. i'm sara bloomquist, channel 6
