quickly, is that something you planned for and your take on how quickly they got here? >> they do train regularly. we work with multiple police departments, we have that advantage in delaware county and their response was phenomenal today in regards to securing this crime scene. >> do you roughly know how many patients were inside of the this facility? >> i don't. >> was the suspect being treated or in an open area? >> inside of the medical offices themselves. >> inside of a patient's room? >> correct. >> so it's contained to the three people? >> shots were fired around a dozen people? >> not a vast amount of people. >> how many shots were fired about? >> we are looking at that issue. >> we will address you again. i wanted to make sure you had

information at this point in time. >> the psychiatric unit will reopen in the future, will it open as early as tomorrow? >> that is possible. we can process this crime scene in the next few hours and to vacate it within the time frame, it will be up to the hospital and their time frame when to reopen the facility. >> thank you very much. >> that was jack walen. >> he was giving us the latest on what happened at mercy fitzgerald hospital on the campus of the hospital. we learned that at 2:30 a suspect walked into the psychiatric unit across from the main campus, a dispute happened, two people were shot, one a female employee and the other a doctor. we learned that the female employee as died and the doctor

received graze wounds and the gunman was also shot and is also being treated at the hospital. >> the district attorney is quick to emphasize that this scene is now secure and everyone is safe at mercy fitzgerald hospital. police were taking no chances and actually looking for a second gunman and that search is now over and the scene is safe. again, we are piecing together what happened and more and more information is coming in. we do know that three people shot at mercy fitzgerald and one is the gunman who is in critical condition at the university of pennsylvania and a doctor, a psychiatrist apparently. suffered some type of graze wound. lets go back to dann cuellar at the scene for more on the situation that continues to unfold at the hospital. >> it was a dramatic scene this afternoon dan. >> reporter: certainly rick, a pretty chaotic scene according

to some of the employees and medical staff in the wellness center, some of the patients that were in there having checkups and having x-rays and things, some were told to get out of the building immediately. some reported they heard the shots but did not physically see it. we learned that the man walked into the psychiatric ward in there to sigh whoever he was going to see and pulled a gun on the psychiatrist and shot the psychiatrist but fortunately it was only a graze wound and someone fired back at the gunman and critically wounded him. but an employee was shot, we don't know if she was the intended target but shot dead. here are some of the people we talked to this afternoon and what they had to say. >> was in the mammography suite taking care of patients and we atre told to evacuate and we

cops and s.w.a.t. teams and very protective police officers in the area doing their job. >> they told us to evacuate and we did. >> i was getting all the patients, i work at the registration desk. it's scary. >> what did you see? >> i didn't see anything just the cops ushering us out and i got all the patients out of the room. it's just crazy. >> back live here on the scene, you see the area remains sealed off by police even though it's declared safe now, it's broad under control and they are looking for a second gunman but they do not believe there was a second gunman after all. there were roughly doctors and nurses told to evacuate. again, a doctor grazed by the gunman who walked into the psychiatric ward, someone fires

back at the gunman and critically wounds him but in the process, someone else, an employee there was shot dead. that is the latest here. i'll give it back to you guys. >> dan, can you set the scene for us geographically, the wellness center across from the main campus is that where you are now between the two? >> right, we are here, the wellness center is here behind me, this is the building where the incident occurred. if you go here, that is the walkway that leads to the hospital itself, that is the hospital across the street here on landsdowne. everything happened there on the top floor where the psychiatric ward was located. that is where the investigation is focused on as we speak. >> thank you dan for that. >> we'll send it to chad pradelli on the ground on the

scene. >> reporter: yeah we are outside of the wellness center where jack walen just briefed us on what is going on here. like you and dan said, it appears that the suspect entered the building at 2:00 and fired at one employee and killed that female employee and then fired a shot at a doctor in the psychiatric ward and that doctor was grazed. i'm told by two sources that that doctor pulled a weapon and returned fire hitting that suspect. both the suspect and that doctor were taken to the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. the doctor is okay and expected to be released shortly. the suspect is in critical condition. you can see still investigators across the area are still on the scene and they are trying to unravel what happened. both guns have been recovered we are told by the district attorney, this is quite a response, district attorney jack

walen said the responsibilities was swift and quick, swat from haverford township and other townships responding here to this wellness building attached to mercy fitzgerald hospital. we talked to patients and employees here at the building, many did not hear the shots fired they were told to evacuate the building and they were frightened we learned a doctor suffered a grades wound and the suspect is in critical condition and unfortunately a female employee as died from the gunshot wound. >> we have one dead, who is an employee, the name is not being released at this point in time. we also have a doctor who has a graze wound who was also shot but with a graze wound being treated, we expect him to be release and his name is also not being released.

the police departments responded in incredible speed here in delaware county. we were able to secure the scene in a rapid fashion, we have gone through each and every floor, and there are no additional shooters here. we have one in custody and he is in critical condition and he is right now at the university of pennsylvania hospital. when we arrived here it as a tense situation, for all of those here, but a calmer situation, unfortunately we have one person dead and another doctor with a graze wound and that suspect in critical condition, investigators are continuing to comb the crime scene and gather evidence to see

also this afternoon we are following a child porn bust in new jersey, there are the faces of men that were caught with child porn but what is especially disturbing is the jobs they held. it includes school bus drivers and a church volunteer and now they are all behind bars after a state wide sweep. david henry is joining us live now in merchantville where one suspect volunteered at a church. >> reporter: yeah, one of suspects were involved in youth activities here at the youth presbyterian church in merchantsville. and they say they found pictures of children from this church on his computer. >> 55-year-old michael parker

was one of 14 suspects that also included two school bus drivers, parker wasn't home when we knocked on his door in pen sauk and, when police raided the home, he refused to answer, police saw him on the computer through the window deleting items. but he did not get it all. >> we found evidence on his computer. >> and they found images of fully clothed boys from the church, there is no evidence that parker or the others had investigators are asking parents to talk to their children to sexual contact with children but make sure. the school bus drivers, 28-year-old andrew shriner worked in mays landing for the shepherd bus company. there is no evidence that the two shared child pornography. one suspect michael van cullen of monroeville, used technology

an upper darby mother is accused of beating her 11-year-old son because he didn't do his chores. she is said to have lashed the boy, the child walked to the policing center for help where they found welts on his back, arms and legs and his mother remains in custody. prosecutors in camden county say they caught the driver that hit a man over the weekend and left them there to die. jose sosa is facing charges for saturday's crash in camden. police say he hit the victim on north 27th street and he died from his injuries on tuesday at the hospital. surveillance cameras spotted a white van involved in thash and police say that that van belongs to sosa. >> the violence in gaza claimed more innocent lives today it

housed a compound in the united nation's school and it injured dozens more that were trying to escape the fire. people inside of the school says that it was hit by israeli tank shells. israel blamed hamas but offered no proof. french jets are searching a desert for an algerian airliner that disappeared from radar this morning, the plane was carrying 110 passengers and 6 crew members. air traffic controllers lost track of the plane over mali 15 mines after it took off and french forces are in mali fighting al qaeda and they sent two planes to look for the jets but so far they have not found any wreckage. lets go back to breaking news tonight.

and monica malpass. we begin tonight with iams breaking news from delaware county, that is where a hospital case worker was killed and a doctor hurt after a gunman opened fire today inside of the wellness center inside of mercy fitzgerald wellness center. the big story is the shooting in darby, pennsylvania, the hospital is now security after a gunman opened fire there. >> we know the gunman was also hurt in the shooting. lets switch live to chad pradelli with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: we are still operating with limited with information, the investigation is still continuing here and we have chief smyth and councilman mcgarry is with us and mayor thomas is here and we had a rapid response to the scene as earlier indicated.

this call came in at 2:21 and within minutes we were able to respond and secure the scene here at fitzgerald mercy hospital. the incident occurred at the mercy wellness center directly behind me on the third floor in the psychiatric unit. a patient came in and unfortunately he was armed. he came into the unit and went back into the what we believe was the doctor's office with his case worker, at that point in time, there was a gun fire exchanged. the doctor is hit and he is hit in the head but fortunately for the doctor we believe it was a graze wound and he is being treated and released. but unfortunately for the case worker she was killed in this incident and there were various employees that assisted him and he was wrestled to the ground and they remov
