i'll have the details on that and much cooler seven-day forecast. >> new developments on a story we've been following all morning, a child is dead and a woman is fighting for her life in ridley township, delaware county. the man accused of doing it is in very critical condition. township police wrapped up news conference a short time ago. >> reporter: it turns out this a domestic tragedy. tragedy with consequences including the death of a 5-year-old boy. we learned from police a few minute ago, this five-year-old boy went to his cousin's birthday party was picked up by his father, was shot to death and shot his mother and she is in critical condition at this hour. here is what lieutenant scott willby had to say about what happened. >> there was a birthday for the mother's sister she was having a birthday for her child and sh

mia washington as there with her son, the father came and picked the child up, when he brought the child out to the house, she gone out to the back to retrieve the child at which time the sister heard gunshots. this happened in the pen ridge apartment complex in the 1100 block of haverford road. after shooting his girlfriend and his son, 26-year-old tyrell styles of philadelphia got into his car an began to flee. police picked up on his car, he crashed into a couple of cars and was cornered in a cul-de-sac as police approached him in the car, they say that he raised his gun to his own head and shot himself. so this morning, tyrell styles

is on life support. his mother is in extremely -- the mother of the little boy is in critical condition, and tragically the five-year-old boy whose name was not released was pronounced at the hospital last night. we don't understand why it happened and the future of the suspects remains in the hands of those at the hospital and his family will have to make a decision regarding life support. a tragedy that happened in ridley township last night. live at ridley township police, amy buckman channel 6 "action news." >> thank, amy. >> one person jumped out of a second floor window to escape an overnight fire. the blaze broke out at 5:30. crews arrived on the scene battling heavy flames. it took firefighters a half-hour to get the fire under control. four people including two children were taken to the hospital for smoke and minor injuries, an investigation is

underway to find out what started that fire. philadelphia police and two brothers are being credited this morning with rescuing a couple from their burning home overnight. the fire started just before 2:00 a.m. on the 900 block of west huntington street in north philadelphia. the brothers tell "action news" they heard commotion and saw the flames and went running to the couple's rescue. >> everyone trying to kick in the door, we all kicked the door in, i grabbed the older gentleman to get him out and put him on the steps next-door to make sure he was safe. >> when she jumped out i was able to break her fall, so the only thing she walked away with was a scraped leg, that was a blessing. >> the couple is being treated for minor smoke and the woman is being treated for minor injuries from jumping from the window. le they are looking into what sparked the blaze. >> the man hunt is on for the men accused of killing three

children from behind the wheel of a stolen car. this vigil was held to remember the three children who were struck down friday morning. their mother is hanging on for her life. karen payne taught the two boils at school. >> i didn't know at that point know they were my students, and when i got over here, what i saw and i took pulses and they had none, i just lost it. >> police tell "action news" they are following up on some leads, but do not have any suspects in custody. >> there's a 101,000 dorlz -- dollar reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the carjackers. keep up on the carjacking

>> a group of kids in a backyard campout in texas ended up with an unwanted visitor. they want swimming in a pond at night and check out who showed up. this 300-pound gator. at first they thought was a small little gator. when they saw how big it was because it chased them out of the water. they told their parents who alerted the game warden. a wildlife hunter caught the gator, 8 feet long. >> this greater was hunting kids and probably would have killed one if we hadn't got him. >> reporter: the biologist said the gator was pregnant and before long there would have been more alligators in that pond. him. >> that greater is almost as big as your biceps, chris.

[laughter]. >> reporter: i almost ripped a jacket last time, it wasn't from flexing. >> a regular popeye. >> reporter: let's go live on sky 6, we're down the jersey shore, we're seeing cloud cover on the beaches, but north of atlantic city they are starting to break out in a little bit of sunshine now. as we flip it over to the temperatures, # 4 degrees in philadelphia. trenton, 84. allentown, 81. reading, 84. dover, 81. very sticky degrees at this midday hour. satellite and radar shows hanging on to cloud cover across the delaware bay and the jersey shore, brightening taking place for the western suburbs, for just about everybody north of philadelphia, cumulus clouds developing during the allentown area. for the most part you're seeing mostly sunny skies up there. it's warm and sticky through the ohio valley. that air mass stretches through

the eastern seaboard. we're seeing a disburses swing through that sticky air mass, now it's firing up showers and thunderstorms. look at the amount of lightning strikes that are taken in are 15 minute increments. we're up to 1400. this is something we have to watch closely over the next 12 hours, it's that system that will continue to push east and march through that warm, soupy air and arrives just in time for the late evening between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. through midnight or so. future tracker 6, not much going on the relevant afternoon, combination sun and clouds, warm and sticky. there could pop-up showers and thunderstorms developing for the far western suburbs. the closer we get to midnight, look at the shades of purple, anne whites. the brighter the colors are on the color scale the more intense the thunderstorms become, and some of these now look like they could produce 60-mile an hour

winds very easily a lot of lightening and the possibility of hail. the storm prediction center continues a risk for severe weather up and down the eastern seaboard from virginia to maine. strong gusty winds, heavy downpours, large hail a possibility and dangerous lightning. it will not be storming all night long. it will be a three hour window from 9 to midnight. the rest of the afternoon is cloudy and sticky with lows in the 70s. in the poconos, smooth sailing, clouds and sun, 78 degrees is the forecasted high. for the jersey shore prove canning conditions, cape may -- improving conditions, cape may county, atlantic county north seeing sun. 85 degrees, very sticky with dewpoints in the upper 60s, low 70s, elsewhere we go, pick out your location, reading, 88. philadelphia, 88. millville, wilmington and

amy buckman is in folsom to fill us in. >> reporter: well, that five-year-old boy spent the day at his cousin's birthday party. else dead. his mother is in critical condition, his father the gunman is on life support. it's a family tragedy that unfolded in delaware county last night. a day that started with birthdays parties at the penn ridge apartment complex ended with gunfire a shooting that left a five-year-old boy his mother in critical condition and the suspect, the little boy's father on life support. the 26-year-old washington brought her son to the sister's apartment for a birthday party. the boy's father, tyrell styles picked him up after the party and brought him back at 11:00 p.m., as washington went out to get her son from his dad gun shots rang out. >> we had a birthday next to to

condition after being hurt in an rv fire in northeast philadelphia yesterday. an "action news" viewing sent us the blaze, the woman was cooking ndle the rv when the propane tank exploded. a 5-year-old boy was treated for scrapes. >> a wilmington's man's efforts to get more septa train service to wilmington is gaining steam. david curtis was frustrated by the long wait between trains. he went on change.org. the delaware transit chief said it is in the talking stages for 2016, but curtis said the sooner the better. >> the ride is great, 40 minutes to philadelphia. if i miss my train it means waiting for two hours. if i'm coming back to wilmington, that means paying $60 for amtrak.

>> a two hundred pound tortoise is okay after being rescued from a fast-moving wildfire. aib is a resident -- abe is a resident at the resort, when the flames threatened to overrun the resort, his owners couldn't take him. when the fire died down, the firefighters went back and got him. fires have forced evacuations at yosemite national park, as well. >> reporter: not a lot going on in the weather department.

as we go outside live on sky 6. there's the view in wilmington, you can see how nice the skies have cleared. wewe have a few puffy cumulus clouds out there. much of the viewing area seeing brought, blue skies, with the exception of the jersey shore. temperatures are climbing nicely, 84 degrees, trenton, 84. lancaster, 82. millville, 81 and cooler numbers closer to the water, not because of the sea breeze, but because you're seeing cloud cover down there. that will change over the next several hours. as we set this in motion this is a 1 hour loop. everybody north of that line seeing sunshine this morning. let's say from atlantic city north you're seeing mixed skies combination of sun and clouds, from that point, south, the beaches like sea isle, stone harbor, wildwood, cape may, seeing clouds, but we're expecting this to pull east,

you'll get in on the sunshine, as well, before the day is through. to be honest is not a good thing because of the system we're watching out to the west, the more sunshine we see today, the greater the chances are of seeing dangerous weather overnight tonight. we have this disturbance here getting going, numerous cloud to ground lightening strikes, we're seeing anywhere from 1400 to two thousand lightning strikes within a 15 minute increment here. that's how they are measured. this is starting to get organized here. as that progresses east and e valley it that warm sticky will help those thunderstorms, some of them will be strong to severe. the second feature we're watching is that counter clockwise swirl. trailing cold front brings an unusual change especially for the month of july. we'll see unusually cool numbers by tuesday, highs will barely crack 80 degrees, as a matter of

fact from tuesday afternoon most of the viewing area hangs out in the 70s, bismarck, 62. omaha, 79. you can see where the front is. that cooler air dives south and east. sun and clouds in the short term. clouding up over night tonight. showers and thunderstorms pushing into the viewing area after 9:00 p.m. you can see purples and whites that would represent heavy thunderstorms, strong, gusty winds 60 miles per hour. that could create downed tree brancheses -- branches and power outages. by 2:30 this advances off to the north an east, you wake up tomorrow morning you see a combination of sun and clouds once again. overnight tonight, downpours a good bet you'll see that. strong gusty winds, at least 60 miles per hour, more than likely you'll see that as well. large hail there's a moderate
