arch and his escape attempt ended with his car plunging into the water. monday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is river rescue that ended in the death and ended with the death of an alleged hit-and-run driver. "action news" reporter sharee williams is live at the scene at penns landing and sharee how did police say it all happened. >> jim, police say they got a 911 call about a black suv crashing into the river in the area right behind me. well, moments before that they also got a call involving this car that matches the very same description fleeing the scene of an accident involving two vehicles and that's when detectives began to make the connection. >> it all happened so fast. a voling beings wagen barreling down near penn's land when it crashed into this barrier and went airborne into the delaware river.

>> well, first, jim, i must say authorities say this unspeakable tragedy gal have aimized the city detectives work around the clock and residents and business owners calling in tips and offering surveillance footage and others offering reward money. the result two bad guys off the streets tonight. >> and today i stand here on behalf of mayor saying thank you to the same community that stood up and did the right thing. >> and "action news" was there as 22-year-old cornelius crawford was arrested last night by police and u.s. marshals 6th and cambria a man with long history of crime. 19-year-old jonathan rosa turned himself into police with mother and pastor. >> all philadelphians were moved to tears by this crime. >> police say the carjackers were driving high rate of speed when they blew a tire german down and allegheny crashing into a fruit stand where the three were selling fruit with their mother. keesha williams and family

friend to raise money for their church. >> a cellphone was found at the scene of the accident by a civilian. he took the cellphone and called homicide unit and brought it into us. air algerie result of that that cellphone ended up being jonathan rosa's cellphone. >> that turned out to be a big break it all began 15 minute earlier 6th and cumberland a 35-year-old female real estate agent was carjacked. >> they forced her into her vehicle she was assaulted physically, sexually. >> an attorney for jonathan rosa says his client has no prior criminal history and remorseful for what happened. >> i left him. he is in scrambles and literally cannot erase the image of that poor child coming over the hood of the car it haunts him like you would not believe. >> only thing i can tell what you they did was indefense i believe and unforgivable. whatever remorse they may or may not have does not bring back the three young children.
