"action news" reporter katherine scott is live in tioga where a memorial continues to grow. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam. people have been showing support for these families in so many different ways. last night hundreds gathered here at germantown and allegheny avenues, the site of the crash which is now where

this memorial stands. you can see candles are burning, there are balloons, stuffed animals, flowers. this memorial continues to grow as families grieve the loss of these three children. >> where we live in it every moment, words cannot explain what we're going through. >> reporter: but the community wanted the victims' families to know they're not going through it alone as hundreds gathered the the site if tioga where three children lost their lives last friday. >> even though i don't know any of y'all but i love all yawl for coming out and supporting us. >> reporter: keisha williams and her three children were selling fruit for a church fundraiser on the corner of allegheny and germantown avenues when a carjacked suv lost control and struck them and their neighbor thelma brown. >> there were so many questions we have no answers to. our tears seem to never end. our hearts are completely broken. we can't believe this is our new reality, a nightmare that just won't end. >> reporter: last night's gathering was to remember

those lost in an instand and it was a call for change within communities. >> we shouldn't have lost three young people. we can change the culture of philadelphia from one that has violence in it to one that is nonviolent. >> reporter: and we're told there's going to be another gathering this evening here at germantown and allegheny avenues. as for the children's funerals, they're set to take place on monday. we're live in tioga, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> thanks so much katherine. chopper 6 was over the scene where two women were stabbed in southwest philadelphia. they're hospitalized with stab wounds to the chest. police believe a third woman attacked the 19 and 21-year-old victims at 64th street and buist avenue at 10:00 last night. no word on a motive or arrests. delaware police trying to solve the mystery avenue partially clothed decomposing body. they have been unable to figure out if it was a man or a woman. a landscaper found the human remains in the woods yesterday. it was behind a bj's retailer

rigid object at 40 miles per hour. the mini cooper country man was the only one of the 12 cars to earn a top rating in the test. meantime consumer reports magazine says toyota should recall 178,000 camry hybrids. the magazine cites a faulty brake system as the reason it wants to see a recall. so far toyota is offering to fix the brakes on models from 2007 to 2011 for free if owners respect concerned about the problem. let's talk stocks. it was a down day on wall street as news of new u.s. sanctions against russia worried investors. right now futures pointing though to a higher open. backpack sales are soaring as more workers ditch brief cases. sales among adults were up 33 percent for the 12 months ending in may. this is according to research firm the ndp group. the jump in popularity coincides with the rise of casual dress work places and back packs are increasingly popular with tech workers but matt and tam, are back packs still monogram jed is that

will be a few more clouds around. we'll transition to a partly sunny and maybe a clouds and sun mix. overall we'll call it partly sunny in allentown and pleasant conditions, a high of 78 and low humidity up in the lehigh valley. it also looks like a good one down at the beach. might be a little bit cool in the water. still looking at ocean water temperatures in the mid 60's. 73 on the beach by noon and 76 by 3 o'clock. not bad. nice enough on the beach. and 82 in philadelphia, partly sunny and pleasant with low humidity and light winds. here's how the temperatures are going to climb today. sunshine and 67 by 8:00 a.m. 75 by 11:00 a.m. 80 by 2 o'clock and then 82 around 3:00 p.m. before we supplied back to 79 degrees by 5 o'clock. tomorrow it will be a bit warmer because we'll still have a fob off to our north encouraging a westerly or perhaps slightly southwesterly flow. might feel a little more humid but i think it will be fairly comfortable. seasonable high tomorrow up in the mid 80's and then we will see those temperatures and the humidity rise a little bit more as we head toward the friday afternoon period.

82 degrees partly sunny and nice today and then tomorrow fairly nice and warm, a high of 85 degrees. cool drink wouldn't be a bad idea but not bad. then friday that's when the warmth and humidity begin to combine to make it feel more sticky. we'll see a high of 87 and late in the day or night there could be a couple spotty thunderstorms. maybe keep an umbrella as you're heading outer friday night. on saturday looks like an area of low pressure is going to be to our north. it will provide a period of morning rain, okay. but we expect some drying during the afternoon, a high of 80 and there could be a pop-up thunderstorm or two in the afternoon on saturday but the morning now appears to be the focus of precipitation. on sunday humid with a thunderstorm, a high of 84. again it's kind of spotty stuff. and then very warm and humid on monday, a high of 89 degrees and a couple of more thunderstorms possible. still looks sticky and unsettled on tuesday, too. i said 89, it's 86 on monday and 89 on tuesday. does look like the middle of next week the humidity sags a little bit and we get back teniasesser weather, okay.

>> philadelphia police are looking for two thieves who went to great lengths to get their hands on cash. surveillance video here shows the two men dropping into a mini mart on the 2400 block of north ninth street in north mini mart on the 2400 block of authorities say the pair broke into an apartment above the store and cut a hole in the floor. they cleaned out the register, filling trash bags with the cash and climbed back unthrough the hole. if you recognize the thieves contact police. >> german authorities will be conducting an autopsy after a shocking discovery. the body of a young stowaway was found in the landing gear of a u.s. military plane. air force personnel discovered the body once the air force cargo based plane landed at the air base. the plane made stops in several african countries before it made to it germany. there's some indications that the young man might have climbed into that wheel well in mali. the incident has raised questions about the security of the aircraft.

a lot going on with traffic this morning. good morning to both of you. >> cool and comfortable tam, matt and karen. just a gorgeous morning. the sun is up over the horizon. a little bit of cloud cover over to the east but very thin. satellite and radar shows you the next band of clouds is really out to the west and those clouds and the related showers are going to kind of fall apart from we get here. i expect another day where we'll see the development of some afternoon cumulus clouds. it actually got pretty thick yesterday. ly over all we'll call it partly sunny this afternoon. a cool start again, 62 in philadelphia, similar to yesterday. some spots like allentown reading and lancaster maybe a degree or two cooler. the record low is 58 this morning by the way in philadelphia so in that territory but probably not hitting it. 59 in trenton, 58 in wilmington, 63 down at the shore. and as we roll through the day 70 by 9 o'clock. it is going to get warm. seventy seven by noon and 82 by 3 o'clock. that's your high. but with light wind and low humidity a pretty nice day overall am i want to remind you it is a day for sunscreen. we'll have enough sunshine and

the sun angle is high enough in august -- listen to me, late july, obviously sunburn would be an issue dam be careful of that. when we step inside we're looking at the return of some higher humidity as we head toward the end of the week and maybe some thunderstorms. i'll have details coming up in that seven day. >> all right, dave. the big traffic problem of the morning was on the schuylkill expressway eastbound with an accident involving an overturned vehicle that blocked all lanes for awhile approaching the conshohocken curve. now we're looking lie at the schuylkill and you could see it's still stop and go from the blue route to the curve but all lanes back opened eastbound on the schuylkill expressway. just expect some slow traffic there. on the pennsylvania turnpike eastbound past norristown we've got this accident, it is off to the shoulder but watch for that as you're headed out as well as a water main break new this morning. this is springfield township montgomery county on bethlehem pike and wissahickon avenue. meanwhile we've had few disabled vehicles out there and this one still causing problems. it's on the burlington bristol bridge. it's westbound as you're heading into pennsylvania you want to watch for it. it's partially restricting traffic right there. meanwhile we'll look live

outside in new jersey, not looking bad just yet. this is 42 northbound traffic at creek road. a little building volume northbound but no big delay that's its for sure, matt. >> thanks camp let's begin with breaking flues other middle east conflict. missile strikes from israeli tanks smashed into a united nations school in gaza. at least 15 people are dead. the building was being used as a shelter for refugees in gaza. hundreds of palestinians were using to it hide from the intense fighting. at least 90 people were injured. let's take a live picture from gaza city right now. you can still see some smoke rising there. this is a war zone, has been for about three weeks now. the israeli military has not commented on the tank strike on that school. it comes one day after israel unleashed its heaviest air and artillery assault since the crisis began three weeks ago. a gunman who opened fire on a car in camden and a pregnant woman was inside. the action cam found a heavy police presence along browning

street near pershing street. the driver and the expectant mother inside the car were not hit. the car carrying the shooter fled the scene. the pregnant woman was shaken up but not hurt. >> there are two health warnings that official want you to be aware of. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is lie at the big board. she's got more on these dangers, good morning, erin. >> reporter: good morning tam. we're in the height of the summer season and it is certainly easy to get caught up in enjoying the nice weather at the beach lake or pool but health officials say you need to be vigilant in protecting ourselves from two summer culprits. the first mosquitos. there have been 25 new cases of the chikungunya virus throughout new jersey including two in gloucester county and one in burlington county. all of the people infected have recently traveled to the caribbean. the virus which is spread by the asian tiger mosquito is not life-threatening but can be debilitating. causes fever headache and

joint pain. in fact the african word chikungunya means contorted or hunched over from pain. mosquito control experts are setting up mosquito traps throughout new jersey as a preventive measure. >> we're coming back with the disease and if a mosquito bites them while they're sick then potentially they can carry that virus to other people. >> reporter: experts say it is important to use bug spray and monitor your backyards by eliminating all standing water which attracts mosquitos. on the to the danger of sun exposure. health officials are also warning about the dramatic increase in deadly melanoma cases. there has been a 200 percent jump since 1973. now there is a new urgent call to action from america's top doctor, the acting surgeon general warning people of all skin types to avoid all forms of tanning, indoor and outdoor. he says there is no such thing as a good tan and sun exposure is especially dangerous for children.

a blistering sunburn in childhood more than doubles the chance of melanoma later in life. the acting surgeon general who is also a dermatologist says you should be using 1 ounce of can't sunscreen year two hours. a family of 24 spending a day at the pool should go through an entire 12-ounce container of lotion so keep reapplying throughout the day. >> i need to use a lot more and i think a lot of people will appreciate knowing that. thank you erin. local bikers will hold a vigil honoring the memory of three children killed in in wild carjacking. hundreds turned tout offer words of comfort and pleas for peace. relatives of the victims thanked the community for prayers and support and shared some of what they have been going through. >> where we live in it every moment, words cannot explain what we're going through. >> police say cornelius crawford and jonathan rosa are the men responsible accused of carjacking a woman and

assaulting her before plowing her car into a family selling fruit on allegheny avenue. >> time is now 6:36. a funeral is scheduled tonight for the caseworker who was killed during last week's hospital shooting in delaware county. theresa hunt was gunned down inside mercy fitzgerald's wellness center in darby borough. police say richard plotts a patient opened fire during a visit on thursday. dr. lee silverman who was armed with his own weapon fired back at plotts. plotts who is still hospitalized was arraigned on a number of charges saturday night. services for hunter, the caseworker, will be held at john stretch funeral home in havertown. she will be buried in new york state. a former police officer in chester county will be sentenced today for stealing from his department. gerald pawling was convicted of theft while working for coatesville police. prosecutors say he stole money from the evidence room, the police athletic league and from fellow officers. the thefts totaled more than $60,000. >> time now to talk about accuweather and i could talk about this all day.

those temperatures are great. >> yeah, nice and comfortable this morning and getting a little warm this afternoon but with low humidity i think we can get into it just a bit. >> storm tracker 6 live double scan we show no precipitation. as we take a look outside we've got sunshine up over the horizon over the platt bridge in south philadelphia. and everything looking bright. you'll need your sunglasses this morning. and well you don't exactly need a coat but you could probably unroll the window stick your elbow out and feel pretty good. 61 degrees barbara in cape may new jersey reporting that cool number. in some areas you have temperatures down in the 50's. now n-philadelphia the official number is 62. up in allentown, we have been sitting on or about 53 or 54 for the last couple of hours. your dewpoint continues to drop well below in 60-degree cutoff for humid air and the winds are out of the north at 5 miles per hour. light this morning. but feeling kind of comfortable when they do kick up. there you see a lack of cloud cover any significant clouds anyway excuse me on satellite. there's a little bit of a line of showers out to the west that will break apart and miss

us and later in the day we will see the development of some fair weather cumulus clouds but -- excuse me. i got a little piece of dust in my throat. going for partly sunny skies. 75 by 11 o'clock. 80 by 2 o'clock and our high of 82 will strike after 3 o'clock before we dip back down to 79 at 5 o'clock. your high temperatures, we got 70's up in allentown and reading, 80 in trenton. down the shore mid 70's right along the water as we are going to be influenced by that cool moderating influence of the ocean. and then it gets a bit warmer on thursday. that's because we've got a frontal boundary that will continue to encourage basically a westerly flow. it may ablittle bit more humid tomorrow but i still think it's going to be fairly comfortable. we will add a couple degrees to the high temperature though. and to the tropics i have to point out this little area of precipitation that is continuing to develop out in the atlantic. this has about a 70 percent chance of developing into tropical storm bertha. it's still a long way away from us.

that's the leeward islands, there's puerto rico, dominican republic, that's cuba and florida way over there off some of your screens in fact if you're watching in four by three but in any event we are keeping an eye on that. bertha possibly forming over the next day or so. your seven-day forecast partly sunny and nice today, 82 degrees is your forecast high. nice and warm on thursday with a high of 85. 87 on friday, warm and humid there. and there is the chance of a shower or a thunderstorm here or there late in the day. on saturday, it now looks like we are going to get some morning rain and hopeful that tapers off in the afternoon. in the afternoon a high of 80 probably only a spotty thunderstorm or two. and then own sunday 84, humid and a couple of more spotty storms possible. other than that, saturday morning period i don't think any of the rest of the weekend is a washout but, you know, are you unsettled. we probably stay humid ann little bumpy monday, tuesday. pretty decent chance that the humidity goes down again around midweek. >> okay. thank you, david. >> yeah. >> it is now 6:39, almost 6:40. next up on "action news" more
