special election to take place in november. cantor just resigned as majority leader yesterday after that stunning defeat by a tea party challenger in the june primary. the ceo of a chicago tech firm is fighting for his life after being shot in his office by an executive he recently demoted allegedly. he fatally shot himself after wounding his boss and longtime friend steven la foy after a one-on-one meeting after defrancis found out he was being demoted as part of the company's downsizing. wildfires springing up like weeds. the focus in southern oregon isn't fighting the blaze near the california border, it's getting everyone out right away. the oregon gulch fire has grown to 3,000 acres and a resident says it's moving pretty fast. dozens of fires were started this week by lightning. and officials expect more may be started today. on the other side of the california/oregon border a new fire near the town of day is

4500 acres. there's a mandatory he vac indication orders and 200 structures are threatened. this and other fires were started by lightning. we have the second named storm of the season, tropical storm bertha formed in the caribbean and has maximum sustained winds of 45 miles an hour and is moving northwest at 20 miles an hour. a tropical storm watch has been issued for puerto rico and the u.s. virgin islands. even with tropical storm bertha far to the southeast coast we'll get plenty of rain. storms also forecast for the great lakes region, some of the gulf coast and much of the southwest. portland, oregon, will get close to 90. phoenix sizzling with a high of 107. just everywhere else will be in the 80s. a sudanese woman who refused to recan't her christian faith in the face of a death sentence has arrived in the u.s. merian ibrahim was cheered by supporters.

wall street's looking at this morning's july jobs report for good news. the dow yesterday plunged more than 300 points. that erased all the gains so far this year. today's report is expected to keep the unemployment rate at 6.1%. target's new ceo has his work cut out for him. they're still suffering the
