>> good morning. how are you sir. >> doing well. ready for that accuweather forecast. we always do it at this time. let's go to meteorologist, david murphy. >> all right, so, satellite right now shows us that we are probably going to see some early sunshine, a little bit of cloud cover scooting through and then we'll change over to a sun and clouds mix. eventually later today there is the possibility of a frontal boundary swinging through and bringing a least parts of the region a spotty pop-up shower or a thunderstorm, doesn't look like a lot of action today. 73 degrees in philadelphia, 65 in allentown, 68 right now in trenton, 68 wilmington and a pair of 72's down the shore in sea isle city and ac. as we roll through the day, 74 degrees by 9 o'clock, 81 by noon. humidity not all that high today. temperature does get warm, though. 86 degrees around 3 o'clock and again there's the chance of a spotty shower or thunderstorm and we'll hone on that more with future tracker 6 in a bit. it doesn't look like a widespread situation today but probably a little better chance today than yesterday. we've got steely dan as the ma

inshow at the musikfest 8:30 tonight partly cloudy a light north wind and temperature getting to a comfortable 72-degree range in time for that show. when i come back we'll talk more about the storms today with future tracker 6 and the rest of the accuweather 7-day. gang. >> david thank you. we begin with the latest into the investigation into the death of a woman in northeast philadelphia. >> the body of 42 year old connie mcclain-murray was found in pennypack park yesterday morning and today police expect to learn more about how she died. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at police headquarters with the story. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, erin, and the medical examiner's report is expected to be released later on today. hopefully that can shed some more light on what happened but in the meantime homicide detectives have been investigating trying to figure out what happened to this victim. you could see homicide detectives, officers from the philadelphia police department in pennypack park near the chris opinion recreation center in the areas of convent

and holme. they were talking to people trying to figure out what happened. the body of connie mcclain-murray was found around 6:00 a.m. yesterday morning by a woman walking her dog. sources told "action news" she had been strangled and there had been signs of a struggle. they're also investigating if she had been sexually assaulted. mcclain-murray had gone to exercise around 9 o'clock on monday night. when she didn't return around 11:00 p.m. her husband and daughter went out looking for her. they filed a missing person's report several hours later. people who knew the victim are devastate. >> i just talked to her on facebook a couple weeks ago about all of us from the class getting together. >> she always had a smile on her face. i can't believe that this happened. >> reporter: and police still have not been able to locate the victim's cell phone. if you have any tips, are you urged to contact homicide detectives. we're live at police headquarters, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> okay, thanks so much katherine. new this morning, a teenager and a man have been

shot on a west philadelphia street. chopper 6hd was over the scene late last night. the 4900 block of fairmount avenue. when police arrived a little after 10:50 they found a 16-year-old boy an 24-year-old man lying on the sidewalk. investigators say they had each been shot several times. >> based on ballistic evidence we know that at least five shots were fired from a semi-automatic weapon. we found three shell casings actually right inside the front door where the 24-year-old male resides. >> the victims are in the hospital in stable condition. so far police have not found a motive for the shooting. the action cam was on new castle avenue in new castle delaware where an suv struck and killed a 52-year-old man. police say claude kellam was trying to walk across the street when a ford explorer driven by a 33-year-old woman ran into him. the victim was pronounced dead

at the hospital. >> one of the most callus cases of animal abuse we here in a long time. authorities believe a kitten was injected with a near fatal dose of heroin and that is not all. thankful al vet stepped in and quick. "action news" reporter kenneth moton has the story from chester county. >> reporter: he's only about 10 weeks old but this chester county kitten has had a rough life. >> every cat they say has anyone lives. this poor kitten at 10 weeks old is down eight. district attorney tom hogan says early sunday morning on dunwoody drive west whiteland township police discovered a disturbing scene. 24-year-old james myers in his parked car. this kitten under the vehicle with a rope around his neck. >> he had been checked. >> reporter: officers found two dozen bags of heroin on myers. in the car hypodermic needles

and hundreds of used heroin bags. the da says appears myers was under the influence of the drug and so was the kitten. >> this is a 2-pound kitten that would fit in the palm of my hand. who would take a defenseless kitten and torture it this way. >> reporter: an officer rushed the kitten to a vet. the vet on duty knew she had to act fast. once she learned the kitten had been possibly exposed to heroin she used something typically given to human overdose patients narcan. the cat came alive. it was a rare use to help a badly injured animal a fighter the staff named after the clinic hope. >> hope is certainly making a good recovery since then. you know, eating, starting to show normal kitten behaving it's actually playing. >> reporter: hope will be transferred to a foster home. myers is facing animal cruelty and drug charges. the d.a. says his office is

always combating both crimes, he just didn't think the two would cross paths like this. kenneth moton, channel 6 "action news." >> happening today, the preliminary hearing for two men charged with murdering an elderly couple in their philadelphia home. police say the victims were strangled inside their strawberry mansion house last month when they attempted to stop the suspects from robbing them. the suspects, 26-year-old perry ballard and 19-year-old justen smith, face murder robbery and other charges. investigators say ballard was a friend of 79-year-old rufus perry and perry's 66-year-old wife gladys. the couple had hired both men to do odd jobs. >> also happening today, a bill that requires all dui offenders to install a interlock device in their cars will become law in delaware. governor jack markell will sign the bill this afternoon. it will require anyone convicted of drunk driving to install the device. the ignition interlock is like a breathalyzer and requires

the driver to breathe into it before the car can be started. if the driver has been drinking the car cannot be started. the bill will strengthen the delaware interlock requirement which until today had some exceptions. >> happening today the opening round of the army investigating into the circumstances surrounding the capture of sergeant bowe bergdahl. his lawyer says the former taliban prisoner is mentally ready and looking forward to answering questions. eugene fidel tells abc news he and bergdahl spent yesterday preparing for questioning. he spent five years imprisoned by the taliban. he was freed in a swap for five taliban prisoners. the family of major general harold greene says he should be remembered as a true hero. he was gunned down in afghanistan yesterday by an afghan security forces soldier who was taking that's right a training session. the general was killed and more than a dozen others were seriously wounded before u.s. troops shot and killed the gunman.

major general green was one of the nation's top ranking officers. >> loss of any life is tragic but this symbolism will have a huge effect on u.s. forces. >> general green is the first general officer to be in combat since vietnam. >> time now for your first look at business. it looks like the nation's largest drugstore chain will keep its headquarters in the united states. walgreens was considering a move to switzerland that would have saved the company billions of dollars in federal taxes in the coming years. the wall street journal reports the company nixed the move amid pressure. the two smartphone makers agreed to end all patent lawsuits in foreign countries. however, both companies intend to continue pursuing existing cases in the united states courts. all the major stock indices closed in negative territory yesterday.

some of you have a little bit of cloud cover overhead but in other cases you've got some sun. we can jump to that sky 6 and we'll show you what it looks like outside many the sun out not quite yet and we're looking at dry conditions at philadelphia international airport. 73 degrees right now philadelphia. similar start to where we were yesterday. 59 degrees is your dewpoint so we are below that threshold for humid air. winds out of the northwest at 7 miles per hour. not too shabby. future tracker 6 shows you we're probably by noon going to see that mix of clouds and sun. as we get into the afternoon there's the chance of a pop-up shower or maybe a thunderstorm in a couple spots but it really doesn't look like it's going to be very much and probably not enough to hinder much of your outdoor activities today like muse is sick fest or the phillies tonight. 86 degrees is your high this afternoon. we'll probably hit that at about 3 o'clock. we'll still be in the low 70's by 8 o'clock. upper 70's by 11 o'clock and then climbing up toward that high by 2 o'clock and by 5 o'clock 53 degrees. again, any thunderstorms are pretty spotty at this point.

high temperatures across the region, 86 in philadelphia and wilmington but only about 82 in allentown and reading. feeling fairly comfortable up there and down the shore low 80's in atlantic city and cape may in all likelihood as well. for the phillies tonight looks like a good game, saw we got a walkoff win last night. partly cloudy we're allowing for a spotty storm but honestly chances for that are very small so i think you're pretty good for baseball. 81 degrees for the first pitch and 76 degrees in the ninth inning. as we take a look at bertha, she is off the coast of atlantic city right now, well out to sea, just 50 miles per hour winds so really falling apart and very soon will not be a tropical storm. nonetheless the waves pushed in by that storm over the last 24 hours are still giving us the chance of dangerous rip currents right along the shore and reminder if you are swimming and you start getting pulled away from the coast all you do is swim either south or north parallel to the beach just a short distance and then you should be able to swim back to shore without a problem. don't try to come right back

you start seeing rips and cracks in the mountain. >> fortunately there have been no reports of any injuries but officials say the damage to the homes in the area could reach several million dollars. and in california, dramatic and terrifying images of a fire tornado hundreds of feet in the air. firefighters are battling more than a dozen wildfires in northern california, lightning sparked the fires that have destroyed thousands of acres. they're trying to save entire towns, even using a protective wrap to keep historic cabins like that one safe from heat and embers. >> the nba made history with a team firing the first female assistants coach. she plays for the santonio stars. it's her 16th season in the wnba. hammon got her start playing high school basketball. she says her dad told her at the time she would never play
