>> good morning. >> good morning. >> we're going take a look at weather and traffic with david and karen. good morning, guys. >> on the big board we have satellite to start you out. looks like there's clouds out to the west that may try and streak in as the day goes on after a somewhat bright start. there's a couple showers and maybe an odd thunderstorm that might try and pop up later this morning and into the afternoon but that's a very small chance. 72 degrees if philadelphia right now. 65 in allentown. 67 in wilmington. 68 in millville and low 70's down the shore. and as we take a look at where things are going as we head out the door looks like low 70's between 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock, partly cloudy and fairly comfortable with humidity on the relatively low side. as we roll through the day, 74 by 9 o'clock, 81 degrees by noon and then 86 by 3 o'clock. that is going to be your high today before we go back down to 82 at 6 o'clock am i. posting that afternoon or evening thunderstorm but again most areas probably do not see that. at musikfest tonight it's steely dan at steel stacks for the main show at 8:30, partly cloudy, a light north wind, 72 degrees, pretty comfortable

for the concert and not a bad day to be up at musikfest just eating the corn and all that good stuff you get up there. karen you'll be up there later today. >> and i will be eating away. let's take a look right now at the schuylkill expressway. you know what, we're looking good making it through this week. we've got dry conditions here and that's your eastbound traffic looking live near spring garden headed into center city with no delay. we have an issue that's popped up here. fire location, it's under control but you want to watch for in it north philadelphia with crews still on the scene near cumberland street. 19 while your other majors looking good and we're not seeing any main accidents on the roadways, either. let's take a 3-d fly of the pennsylvania turnpike starting westbound and we can see the green traffic flow. we had two crews with overnight construction working in the area. they have just cleared and now we've got all lanes opened and looking good on a wednesday morning. matt and erin. >> thank you karen. we begin with the investigation into the suspicious death of a philadelphia woman. her body was found in pennypack park in northeast philadelphia. the medical examiner is expected to release the report

today. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at police headquarters with the full story. katherine. >> reporter: that's right, matt, when that medical examiner releases the report, the hope is it's going to shed more light on this case. homicide detectives have taken over this case and they're working to determine what happened to this victim nd you can see homicide detectives in the area of holme and convent avenues near chris opinion recreation center in northeast philadelphia and pennypack park, the body of 46-year-old connie mcclain-murray was found around 6 o'clock yesterday morning by a woman walking her dog. sources told "action news" it appeared she had been strangled and that there were signs of a struggle. they are also investigating if she had been sexually assaulted. mcclain-murray had gone to exercise around 9 o'clock monday night and when she didn't return around 11 o'clock her husband and daughter went out looking for her. they filed a missing persons report several hours later. people who knew the victim are devastated. >> i just talked to her on facebook maybe a couple weeks ago about all of us from the

class getting together. >> she always had a smile on her face. i can't believe that this happened. >> and so far police have not been able to locate the victim's cell phone. if you have any tips contact homicide. we are live at police headquarters, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> ♪ >> new this morning, a teenager and a man have been shot on a west philadelphia street. chopper 6 hd was over the scene late last night, the 4900 block of fairmount avenue. when police arrived a little after 10:15 they found a 16-year-old boy and 24-year-old man lying on the sidewalk. investigators say they had each been shot several times. >> based on ballistic evidence, we know that at least five shots were fired from a semi-automatic weapon and we found three shell casings actually right inside the front door where the 24-year-old male resides. >> the victims are in the hospital in stable condition.

so far police have not found a motive for the shootings. the delaware state police want you to give them a call if you recognize these men. investigators say they broke into wilson's auction house at about 11:30 on monday night. the business is on the 10,000 block of dupont highway near lincoln delaware. police say the burglary suspects managed to open the safe and steal some jewelry and about $4,000 in cash. >> happening today, the preliminary hearing for two men charged with murdering an elderly couple in their philadelphia home. police say the victims were strangled inside the strawberry mansion house last month after trying to stop robbers in the act. the defendants, 26-year-old terry ballard and 19-year-old justen smith, both face murder and robbery charges. investigator say ballard was a friend of the victims, 79-year-old rufus perry and his 66-year-old wife gladys perry. the couple had hired both men to do odd jobs. also happening today, governor jack markell is

expected to sign a bill requiring anyone convicted of dui in delaware to install an interlock device in their cars. current law had allowed some exceptions. the ignition interlock is like a breathalyzer requiring the driver to breathe into the device before the car can be started. and if the driver has been drinking, the car will not start. >> and another fairly comfortable day, right, not too hot. >> not too hot. looking at another series of nice days actually. storm tracker 6 live double scan slows you we don't have any rain out there. as we look outside on sky 6 we have brightening conditions over the ben franklin bridge and once again today you see very little motion in the water as the wind this morning is not all that strong, which is good. 72 degrees in philadelphia currently. your dewpoint at 59, which is just a tad below that threshold for what we would consider humid air. winds out of the northwest at 9 miles per hour and some spots they're not even that strong. future tracker 6 for the rest of the day, and this is look at the noon view, shows that there could be some clouds

around and occasionally a little pop-up shower or thunderstorm but most of this looks like it's just going to fall apart before it gets here. we have to allow for a passing storm but most won't see that. as we roll through day it will be warm, 73 degrees by 8 o'clock, 79 as early as 11 o'clock and then by 2 o'clock 84. your high of 86 probably around 3 o'clock today, which is pretty typical for this time of year and then 83 by 5 o'clock. again i'm post something scattered pop-up thunderstorms but most don't have to worry about that. high temperatures across the region looks like we'll hold into the low 80's in places like allentown and reading, 84 in trenton, 86 in wilmington, 85 down in dover and down the shore, the low 80's because of that moderating influence of the ocean. phillies tonight look good. partly cloudy, very likely dry considering the spotty nature of precipitation tonight. 81 for the first pitch and 76 for the ninth inning tonight and that is the astros again into town. tropical storm bertha well off the coast at this point but it

is close enough where over the last 24 hours and now today it has generated some pretty decent waves going in on the ocean and those waves on shore tends the form rip currents coming away from the shore so if you are down the beach today once again you want to swim near the lifeguards and listen to what they say. if you do happen to get caught in a rip current just a reminder all do you to get out of it is swim safely north or south parallel to the beach and very quickly you'll find yourself out of that rip current and you can get back to shore. don't try to swim directly back to the coast, will you not make it and that's where people get into trouble. clouds and sun, 86 degrees today. just a slight chance of a pop-up storm. sunny and nice on thursday, 84 and partly sunny on friday. another nice day 83 degrees there. sunday 82. there will probable be some more clouds around on sunday the way things look and there may be a rain maker down to our south and west but at this point looks like that rain holds to the south and west

and we wind up with a pretty good end of the weekend. we'll keep watching it for you. mostly sunny on monday then, 81. and back to 84 on tuesday and tuesday would be the next chance of a shower or a thunderstorm the way things are looking now. so, overall pretty nice and it is august and a lot of times we get those hot humid days up into the 90's in august and we're just not seeing it this year, not yet. >> that's good. >> yeah. it is going to be a beautiful day especially for this time of the summer. >> now that we're halfway through. let's finish up strong, karen. >> yes, let's do it. suburban traffic report time right now. if you're heading in from western chester county this is what your ride looks like on the 30 bypass near 340. this is eastbound traffic headed towards route 100. few more people on the road than we saw a half hour ago but certainly no delays just yet. let's switch over to 422. we'll take a live look near valley forge and see what's happening there. roads are clear and dry you could see from this shot. that's your eastbound traffic right here and moving pretty nicely at this .422 at trooper showing no problems. why don't we head 3-d fly right here and this is of the northeast extension southbound. we've got that left lane blocked with construction near lansdale so watch for that. otherwise, we're seeing speeds mostly in the 60's heading southbound on the northeast extension. no problems there. this is your commuter traffic report right now and if you're down the shore vacationing, if you're on the garden state parkway this morning maybe

you're heading up towards the atlantic city expressway and you can see traffic here moving just fine. someone talking about the construction here on the black horse pike near egg harbor township. other than that we're not looking at any issues on the parkway or the expressway this morning. so, you're pretty good to go. weather-wise no weather-related issues. nice and clear. past couple days in south jersey we saw some pretty thick fog. it's clear now. 60 degrees in quakertown, 63 in warrington, 67 in chester and in new jersey, it's 65 in toms river, 70 on the boardwalk in ac and 66 in dover: it's a warm day today with a high of 86, clouds and sunshine, just the chance for a spotty thunderstorm later on but not too many people will be affected by that one, matt. >> thanks, karen. a utah neighborhood has been evacuated over fear that is a landslide that already destroyed a home and damaged others could get worse. this is video of that one house collapsing in north salt lake yesterday. officials say the area has been unstable for the past few days because of heavy rain but some people in the area blame

developers digging above the homes. officials say the damage to the homes in the area could reach several million dollars. in california dramatic and terrifying image afire tornado. hundreds of feet in the air. firefighters are battling more than a dozen wildfires in that state. in northern california lightning sparked the fires that have destroyed thousands of acres. crews are trying to save entire towns even using protective wrap to keep historic cabins safe from the heat and embers. >> the body of a missing oregon woman has been found near a remote road. jennifer huston was last seen on july 24th when her husband said she left to run errands. she was caught on surveillance video outside a credit union, a gas station and inside a drugstore near her home. a property own are found huston's suv and called police. police found her body a short distance away. they say there are no signs of foul play. >> a north philadelphia woman is recovering from a vicious

attack on her front door seven. it was captured on surveillance video. it happened along the 1500 block of north 18th street late last month. the woman was just about to open her front door when three men came up behind her and started hitting her. she told police they were after her cell phone. after beating the woman for more than a minute, the men gave up. if you recognize the men in this surveillance video, detectives want to hear from you. police have arrested and charged a pleasantville, new jersey, man with strangling this woman and stuffing her body in a suitcase. a hunter discovered the remains of 30 year old tara rogers-alicea behind the shore mall in egg harbor township seven months ago. an investigation involving the fbi led officials to 27-year-old steven stahl worth yesterday and he's charged with first degree murder and is being held on $2 million bail. >> 5:45 now. a chester county man faces animal cruelty and drug charges after police say he injected a kitten with heroin.

raise money for education. staples partnered with perry to create make roar happening a fundraising initiative to support teachers. staples donated $1 million to donors choose which helps teachers pay for projects in their classrooms. mattia will use her grant to buy thousands of dollars worth of lab supplies for her physics classes. >> i don't even know what i would have done without this grant money and this donation or what my students would have done. she's going to give them a better chance in their education. >> the kids who met katy perry were glad she was helping their schools but also thrilled to have had a chance to meet the singer. i'm sure it was. >> good all around there. >> 5:52 now. all new on "action news," the stowaway who is behind bars after sneaking onto a flight from san jose to los angeles and authorities say she has done the same thing not once but six times before. >> plus, septa is expanding its latest pilot program. we'll explain when "action news" comes right back.

we're tracking a cold front that will drop temperatures for the end of the week. >> david is outside on the lookout for that. karen rogers following traffic. good morning. >> comfortable conditions outer here right now t glancing over toward the east i can see the skies getting brighter. not a lot of cloud cover early. satellite shows you that there will be some additional clouds coming in from the west later and we'll probably go into a clouds and sun mix for a portion of the day. there's also some showers out by pittsburgh. some of that might try and break in later today and maybe into the early evening but it looks like it's few and far between. 70 degrees with humidity behaving itself this morning. a nice cool breeze blowing. 65 degrees in allentown, 64 in allentown and 70 in sea isle city and at the boardwalk in atlantic city. and as we roll through the day it gets warm. 74 by 9:00. by noon 81. 86 is your high today at 3 o'clock and then we're back to 82 by 6 o'clock. again, just a slight chance of a spotty pop-up shower or thunderstorm this afternoon. most of you are dry. and that goes for steely dan at musikfest.
