bloomquist is off and in the news, a discovery that could change the fight against breast cancer and a new jersey mother charged in a cold case murder, details of her arrest in florida. but the big story is a deadly crime spree that began with a murder in drexel hill. kenneth killed his wife in their home and took their two young sons. they were found safe and the man turned the gun on himself. lets go to john rawlins in the drexel neighborhood where it all started. >> reporter: this was a domestic murder that turned into an amber alert. >> a neighbor heard an altercation and gunshot coming from the upstairs left apartment and police arrived and found

kristina corrigan dead. >> the second floor apartment was the body of a woman probably in her 30s, white woman, looks like she is either stabbed or shot. maybe one gunshot wound to the head. >> neighbors told police that the man was, possibly her husband keith, was seen leaving with the two little boys. >> one boy said, is mommy dead, is mommy dead? >> they left in his gray suv. >> we have an all points bulletin for new york, specifically long island. we believe that is where he was headed. >> an armed suspect went to the pharmacy where his brother was employed, he stole beer and

cigarette but did not point his weapon, he left his two boys athe the store and drove off. there was a 911 call and police arrived and they found the suv and inside a man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. the body was removed along with evidence and what appeared to be a long sword and neighbors were baffled by the incident. >> they were quiet people and i never heard yelling or arguing and the rest of us on the block were quiet and minded our own business. >> have you ever seen the police here? >> i have not. >> according to superintendant, chitwood, he killed his wife in a jealous rage thinking she had been unfaithful to him, apparently he post that information on facebook. >> thank you. the reward has grown to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction of a

northeast philadelphia woman. connie murray was found in opiniony pack park early tuesday and she had been strangled. she left her home for a power walk and was last seen talking to someone in a car. anybody that has information is asked to call the citizen's crime commission or police. service on the newark line is suspended after someone was struck and killed by an amtrak train this morning. septa service is suspended from marcus hook and wilmington and amtrak is delayed while authoritied continue to investigate. the body of major harold green arrived in dover, delaware, this morning. the highest ranking american officer ever killed in come bat in afghanistan. karen travers has the story from washington. >> a somber morning at dover,

air force base in delaware. a cargo plane arrived with the body of general harold green. six white gloved soldiers carried the flag draped case, holding the general's remains. his family is seen here, they boarded the aircraft to thank the flight crew. green is the highest ranked officer to die in combat since vietnam. >> he was not there for combat, he was there to help the afghans with their future. that is more difficult to take. >> it was a routine trip to this military academy, he was there to check on progress by the afghan troops. one of the thousands trained by the u.s. fired an automatic weapon into a large crowd, general green was killed and a

dozen wounded including eight americans. the gunman was killed. an incident like this -- >> will make it much more difficult to conduct that mission in the future with the loss of trust and confidence that has to happen when something as tragic as this curs. >> another two star general was there on tuesday, the u.s. commander was standing next to green and was unhurt. reporting from washington, car and travers, channel 6 "action news." oversees troops are on patrol to enforce quarantine for people infected by ebola, this after the president declared a state of emergency. efforts are increasing to stop the outbreak, blamed for more than 900 deaths in four west african countries. meanwhile the two americans with ebola continue to show

improvement. hurricane iselle is expected to reach hawaii today, giving the united states the first direct hit in 20 years. businesses are boarding up in preparation and city workers are clearing out the storm drains, they are bracing for heavy rain and flooding and high winds and a second hurricane, julio is following close behind, the back to back storms have tourists streaming to the airport to change their flights and others are trying to salvage the rest of their vacations. >> we are working on plane about. >> don't two hurricanes have made landfall in hawaii since 1949. david murphy is tracking this. >> julio is now a category 2 and iselle is down to a category 1, you think this must be the big problem, but not necessarily,

while most of these weaken a bit, julio will be off to the north, that brings the strongest wind and biggest problem as way from hawaii, but hurricane ids elis the one that is a bigger issue especially the big island, the one at the southern tier the one where the active volcano throws is located. the good change at noon is that the latest forecast for this to come ashore not as a category 1 but a tropical storm. that would diminish the storm a bit but still a lot of rain. the storm will go just to the south of oahu where the capital of honolulu is located and also maui. it's away from the force of this storm, but the maui resorts tend to be on the south side and they will stare at the storm as it goes by. if you have plans you'll want to call ahead and make sure everything is okay when you get

investigation. a cold case murder mystery in new jersey ended with an unexpected twist in florida. police in jensen beach arrested michelle lozinski for the death of her son. his remains were found after he went missing from a carnival. she is charged with the murder and is captured in florida and she is being held on $2 million bail. a manhunt is underway for a man that attacked a pet sitter, they identify him as kenneth todd and the victim says she was in her neighbor's home when her attacker suddenly barged in. >> he punched me in the face and at one point i was on the ground and i was always toll to use your body to your advantage and

a wild fire is burning close to communities today. it forced the evacuation of 300 homes, close to oregon sparking health concerns for nearby residents. >> the smoke is bad enough because these are senior citizens and most are on oxygen or medical assistance of some type. it's coming straight toward everybody. >> about 1900 additional homeowners are set to flee if necessary. the lawyers have started to deliver their closing arguments in the oscar pistorius trial today. he contends he shot his girlfriend before dawn last year after this had a fight. the defense says he fired by police take thinking he was about to be attacked by an

meteorologist, david murphy is back now with a closer look at a wonderful forecast for today. >> it's a get outside and enjoy it kind of day, we did not have rain of course in cape may, sky 6 hd showing us down the beach enjoying themselves. why not? it's a great day to be on the beach, a great day do be anywhere across the region. the temperature is up to 80 degrees and the dew point is down below the threshold for humid air, there is the breeze north northeast at 14 miles per hour. a nice combination for august in philadelphia. as you look at current numbers, most of the area, in terms of our official reporting stations, philadelphia is the only 80 on the map but everybody will be a little above 80 later on.
