since 1955. last month the owner of the buildings got the okay to take them down. john rawlins has been watching the delicate operation all morning and joins us live from at this time. good afternoon, john. >> reporter: good afternoon, it is a slow process. they had hoped to be done by now. that's not the case. you can see the folks in charge conferring with the police on the ground. so far they have removed two of the 12 letters, last we heard they would remove four more before calling it a day. >> buildings up the drama, this is so incredible, i'm surprised there's not more people watching this. it's not everyday you get to a major crane and helicopter, i am a filmmaker. >> it's quite a show, but no hollywood magic, but real world helicopter and multiple skilled workers lifting off 16-foot,

3,000-pound letters down to the street a mid a powerful downdraft. >> that's been here a long time. >> reporter: since 19352, when the pnb put it's brands on it. there was talk taking down the letters. last month the city and the historical commission gave it a greenlight. >> to see the skyline change the iconic sign change, good idea, bad idea? >> my idea would be to keep it up there regardless of who owns it, i guess somebody else felt differently. >> reporter: well change is coming very slowly to say the least, only two of the 12 letters have been removed so far, that was at 9:30 and 9:45, since then we have been in something of a holding pattern, although we are told the chopper is due to return soon. live in center city, john

rawlins channel 6 "action news." back to you all. >> thanks, john. chaos once again erupted on the streets of ferguson, missouri 8 days after an unarmed black teenager was shot by a white police officer. police if full riot gear fired smoke canisters and tear gas to disburse the crowd. the show of force was to response to a report of a shooter at the protest. one protester was critically hurt and someone in the crowd was the shooter. >> i'll tell you you we have a shooting victim that's in critical condition that may lose their life. we had a subject standing in the middle of the road with a handgun. we had a police car shot at tonight and yes, i think that was the proper response. it was the first night of a state-imposed mandatory curfew. police say most did abide by the

curfew. >> you can keep up with the changes events in ferguson, missouri, when "action news" isn't on the air head to 6abc.com. you can look through the powerful photos from the intense confrontations between protesters and police. delaware state police are investigating a break-in at a marshall store in mill creek. employees opened the store called police when they arrived. no word on when any items were stolen, police are investigating. an amtrak worker had to be rescued overnight while repairing high tension wireless of it happened in the tacony section. the man became i will when i will on a beam -- ill when he was on a beam 100 feet in the air. emergency crews were called in for support. a co-workers helped to get the man safely to the grounds. he was taken to the hospital and in stable condition. in south jersey, the police are trying to solve an overnight

killing of a man in cumberland county. gunfire erupted on the 300 block of bank street in bridgeton before midnight. the victim was hit several times. police say he was pronounced at the scene. no word on the victim's identity. oh, what led up to the shooting. new jersey taxpayers will have to pay $6.5 million bill from legal fees during 89 bridgegate scandal. the governor's administration is facing state and federal investigations related to the lane closures on the george washington bridge. >> taney fever continues, the taney dragons takes on texas tonight in their next game of the little league world series. the action cam caught up with fans as they boarded the bus, they are heading to williamsport to cheer on the team. many say they don't know anyone on the team, but they want to be
