is off. now citations are issued for the shut down of i-495 in delaware. but the big story this afternoon is the shootout that killed a suspect and injured a philadelphia police officer. is happened in the city's tacony section. and the officer suffered a graze wound to the head. but managed to shoot back and killed suspect. david henry is live. >> reporter: they are trying to put together the events that led to the raging gun battle. in the meantime it was an extremely close call for that police officer s tonight was all caught on police radio

transmission. >> the officer is reporting shots fired. >> it happened at 12:45 this morning in tack owny, a report of a man with a gun on ditman. they spotted the suspect on torresdale and the officer came under fire immediately. >> officer paulski got out of the car and was fired upon. he suffered a deep graze wound but kept his cool when reporting it on police radio. >> i'm hit. >> he was joined by two other officers that were engaged in a gun battle with the suspect, and officer karpalski was hit and he

haze 3-week-old child. commissioner ramsey said it was a close call. >> he is released from the hospital, and received a graze wound to the head, another fraction of an inch and we would be having a different discussion. >> police are not releasing the name of the suspect that was killed out there this morning. they have surveillance video that could help in their ongoing investigation. starting on "action news," we'll have more of those dramatic police radio transmissions during the gun battle. david henry, channel 6 "action news." >> david, thank you. >> we have breaking news now, from penn's landing, where a septa bus caught fire just a few minutes ago. firefighters are on the scene now and you can see they extinguished the fire, it was burning at the back of the bus here. that was parked at front and

chestnut street, it's a route 33 bus, it caught fire before the noon hour. no injuries reporting and septa tells "action news" there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the fire, there was a septa mechanic on the bus when it did catch fire, firefighters put it out fairly quickly. a dozen bullet casings riddled the street following a deadly shooting last night. a 26-year-old man was found shot inside of a silver honda before 1:00 this morning. it happened on the 1800 block west third and scott street. the victim was rushed to christiana hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. so far police have no motives or suspects for this shooting. israel has resumed air strikes in the gaza strip. egypt persuaded both sides to

continue a peace treaty and israel says they only fired the rockets after hamas broke the treaty. last night in ferguson, police clashed with protesters. marcy gonzales has the latest. >> reporter: it's becoming a nightly routine here in ferguson. protesters flooding the streets, some turning violent. >> our officers came under heavy gun fire, officers again responding with tear gas, arresting 31 people saying many of them were from out of state. i want to take care of the good people and come out and protest tomorrow during the daytime hours. make your voices heard, where you can be seen. the protest which during the day

is peaceful is sparked by the death of michael brown, the unarmed 18-year-old shot more than a week ago by officer darren wilson. >> we are hearing from one of wilson's friends. >> he is a quiet guy, really well mannered. i can't imagine him shooting anybody even as a police officer. >> evidence could be presented to the grand jury tomorrow, including the autopsy showing six shots. >> if they were taken from far away and all of them hit him in the front. that will be a tough spot for the police officer to be in. if however, this was fired at close range, the police officer is going to say there was a struggle. >> that is what the police maintain.

large pile of dirt dumped near the bridge damaged the support columns. dupont and alma properties are served with citations from governmental regulators. it remains closed, 495 south opened back up on july 31st. breaking news out of arizona, there is flash flooding causing big problems in the phoenix area, take a look at the video just into our newsroom. raging waters are flowing right next to these roads, and in some cases the roads are submerged and several vehicles are stuck. we'll have more on that on "action news" at beginning at 4:00. and now a wild fire near yosemite national park, it has burned nearly two square miles in the foothills. eight structures have been

three new jersey state troopers rescued a truck driver after a fiery crash this morning in bergan county, the truck crashed through the guardrail in ridgefield park, the cab plunged into a creek below with the 66-year-old inside. the officers were able to pull the man from the vehicle. a dash-cam captured this video as a car collided with a tasker truck on interstate 10 in biloxi, mississippi, people behind stopped and ran to the fire ball to help and fredrickson used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. >> we noticed a woman trying to get out and when we opened the

meteorologist, david murphy, here now with accuweather. feeling a bit more summer-like out there. >> stickier and probably staying that way for the next couple of days. stormtracker 6 live double scan, there is no precipitation in sight and as we look at the turtles on the logs sunning themselves. it's still fairly bright but more of a sun and clouds mix than what we had earlier. well, 82 degrees is your current temperature and humidity is starting to creep up there, as the dew point is up above the 60 degree threshold. all the turtles hanging out on logs, are you okay. trenton 79 and 79 in allentown and a couple of 80s here and

there and getting high to your mark of 80 degrees down at the shore. accuweather shows cloud cover mixing in with sun in central pennsylvania, we have the fair weather cumulous with enough holes. later in the afternoon you'll probably feel the humidity tic up. 80 is the high there with a mix of sun and clouds. at the shore 75 or so in the water and on the beach a high of 80, not that much different than what are you experiencing right now. as we look at philadelphia's forecast, a high of 84 and similar, sun and clouds and a bit on the humid side, winds at 6 miles per hour. we have them breezy at times through the morning and we'll see that kick up during the afternoon, partly cloudy and cool and an overnight low of 67, and the suburbs going to the low

60s overnight. no weather problems to prevent you from getting to the area, 81 by 5:30 and a bit on the humid side, a mix of sun and clouds and bright enough for sunglasses, the phillies trying to beat the seattle mariners and a bid on the humid side, 72 in the ninth inning for the phillies and mariners. a high of 85 and continued humidity as the warm front to the west continues to encourage a southerly flow drawing the sticky air in. a slight chance of a pop-up shower or thunderstorm, west of philadelphia, the latest models are keeping this out until properly overnight. the system comes through and at times we see a shower, and some lingering showers on friday. today's high 67 and a bit more humid than it has been the last
