>> good morning, it is 7:00 a.m. on this saturday, august 30th. here are some of the stories we're following on for you on "action news." summer unofficially winds down at the jersey shore. the eagles make their file cuts later today. the regular season starts in less than a week. meteorologist chris sowers is outside with a look ahead at the accuweather forecast, chris, nice and sunny already. >> reporter: i'm laughing because it feels so good out here and and i know in the back of my mind how awful it will feel tomorrow. we have a dramatic front heading our way. we'll get into the dixie heat. it will feel like the mid 90s. quakertown 51. you look closely you see the shades of before you. we have communities in and around the quakertown area that are down in the 40s this morning, 5 in martins creek.

chester, 58. glassboro, 54. hammonton, the same. browns mills 54. ewing 54. cinnaminson a very comfortable 55 degrees. satellite and radar, we don't have too much to talk about out there, we have clouds to the west, the jet stream is running southwest to northeast just to the left of pittsburgh or the west of pittsburgh, if you will, because it's too our west we'll start to warm up. once the warm front punches through later this evening, that's when we get into the soupy air mass once again. it's all downhill from there if you're not a big fan of muggy weather. 80 degrees at lunger time. comfortable, lots of sunshine. 6:00 p.m., bark down to 81. le we've got one more real nice one. we get back into the i couldn't like-like pattern. starting tomorrow it turns more humid, hotter with highs in the 90s. him those actual air temperatures, you combine the two, it will feel like the mid 90s. le with all the soup we get the

afternoon showers and thunderstorms popping up. some of the forecast models with a few of the thunderstorms suggest anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain over the next few days. it's not going to be a watch, but there will be a lot of dry stretches in between. if you get under one of the storms, do expect rain. when i get back inside i'll talk about that and have the exclusive accuweather forecast. >> going to the shore is a tradition for so many families on labor day. a few final days in the sun and fun. our annie mccormick drew the best gig down on the boardwalk. >> reporter: kids are flying high on the ocean city boardwalk on rides. >> i'm bringing my son down here for one last harrah on the beach. it was a beautiful day in ocean city to ventnor.

>> fabulous we came down to sit on the beach and talk. >> reporter: friday the ocean city boardwalk was the hot spot for food, fun and family time. >> i'm excited to be here with my little sister, she is a little scared about them, i help her on the way. >> reporter: little isabel loved every minute. i imagine she is like so many other shore lovers are taking it in as we say goodbye to summer. >> we're not looking forward to the end of it, but there's next year, too. >> reporter: and we all have our favorite things that we want to eat for summertime and mr. taffy is one of them and we have ice cream, too, we have three days left to do it. labor day isn't until monday. for now, ocean city new jersey, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> the grates for the third -- the gates for the third annual

made in america festival cobs -- concert opens at noon. hundreds of workers put up two stages and miles of cable. and now a dozen streets are blocked in the area. but the inconvenience for residents produces a big payoff for music fans and the city. dozens of names in pop movie will perform in the next two days. >> kanye and pherell fans are excited to see them. >> the first songs will be belted out at 2:00. for the first time a similar concert will takes place in los angeles, concert goers here will see it on a big screen tv. made in america festival is a big money maker for local

businesses last career they took in $10 million. remember, "action news" can travel with you wherever you go this labor day weekend. 6abc.com has the latest from accuweather around the clock, plus, live traffic reports for your trip and the detailsle on made in america festival and the set times and the detours at 6abc.com. new this morning, two drivers were injured early when their car slammed into a trolley in southwest philadelphia. the action cam was at the scene the 5400 block of lindbergh boulevard. the crash happened at 4:30 a.m. the car rear ended the trolley while the trolley was stopped at a red light. then another car hit both the first car which the trolleys. the driver of the cars, 47-year-old man and 23-year-old woman are in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. ukrainian president is meeting with european leaders in brussels today.

the eu is ready to slap more sanctions on russia for fighting in ukraine. russian backed separatists have killed 2800 people. in other news this morning, britain raises the terror threat level to severe, the second highest warning effort. british prime minister david cameron said the move is being made out of an abundance of caution and possibly hundreds of isis militants have british passports. meanwhile, the white house said it does not expect to bump up the terrorism warning level in the u.s. as for the military action against isis, the pentagon has spent half a billion dollars since mid june. they carried out 110 airstrikes, four more wetter and continuing

surveillance flights. in the new york times opinion piece, secretary of state john kerry call also calls isis a cancer that needs to be stamped out. "good morning america" weekend will take a look at isis and it's recruiting ahead at 8:00 a.m. after "action news." comedian joan rivers remains in serious condition at a new york city hospital. abc news has learned she has been unconscious since going into cardiac arrest during a procedure at a clinic. the 81-year-old entertainer is being sedated until doctors are more comfortable with her condition. her daughter said her mom is receiving the best treatment and care possible. back here in the delaware valley police are looking for two suspects in the thursday's supermarket parking lot shooting and robbery. surveillance video shows how the masked bandits pulled up the behind the -- in the white van

blocking the victim, one shoots him in the arm and takes his bank with $70,000. he was taking inside the bank at the path mark. the suspects fled in the minivan thought to be a dodge caravan. the law firm hired to defend governor christie has billed the state of new jersey another $784,000. the bill is for work done this summer in relation to the investigations on the girard point george washington bridge lane closing from last september. the firm is representing christy's office in the state and federal investigations on the scandal. so far the firm has charged the state more than $7 million. still ahead on "action news" saturday morning, agony of defeat, art of aging series

fog we were anticipating. it's been nice and comfortable and cool temperature-wise with overnight lows in the 40s in some locations. now it's starting to climb always the sun is rising, but still chilly for this time of year. 56 in millville. quakertown was 49 a few minutes ago, they are in the low 50s, that's chilly for the month of august. wilmington, 65 degrees, philadelphia, 63 degrees. temperatures will climb a little bit warmer when all is said and done, it's tomorrow when it turns down right oppressive. we have clouds to the south, richmond, washington, d.c. and baltimore reporting cloudy skies, but in those locations you'll see sunshine, as well. the only system we're tracking is this right here, this counter clockwise swirl that's an area of low pressure pushing through

the great lake states. as it punches through and pushes into canada it will swing into the delaware valley. that arrives tomorrow. temperature-wise doesn't look too terribly impressive right now because it's 6:00 a.m. by dallas. you'll be up in the 90s today. some areas could be seeing triple digit heat once again. memphis, presently, 77. dallas, 77. new orleans, 80. all that is shifting east over the next couple of days. today is nice and comfortable, temperatures closing in on 90 degrees, if not a few degrees hotter than that. it will feel more like 95 or 96. same thing for labored and tuesday, more than likely we'll keep the trend going through wednesday, as well. here's future tracker 6. today is nice and quiet with all the soup and humidity we're expecting over the next few days and a cold front approaching from the west. we'll get the showers and

thunderstorms developing once again. tomorrow morning is quiet. here comes the first front, sunday evening, mostly everybody is dry throughout the day. sunday evening we'll see the showers and thunderstorms, some of them will produce heavy downpours. we get into labor day it itself. the frontal system is fizzlings out it's over top of the delaware valley. we'll see the showers and thunderstorms pop up at any point in time. again we're starting to pick up the orange and reds. any one of these storms could produce the downpours, sunday and monday, we're anticipating how much rain we're seeing. reading, 2.28. trenton, closing in on 2 inches. lang a little bit more than 2. philadelphia the models are

hinting the city is missing the heavy downpours, but we could could be talking about 1 to 2 inches of rain if we get under a downpour. poconos, 74 degrees, sunday, 79 degrees and thunderstorms. monday, mug, 80 thunderstorms. jersey shore, today, 78. that will be the air temperature on sunday, 84 degrees, humid, monday, very muggy, and chance of thunderstorms, 84. allentown, 82. reading, 83. millville and dover, 81. cape may, 78 degrees, sun and clouds a real nice afternoon, turning oppressive as we get into sunday. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, 90 degrees for sunday, 89 degrees labor day. both days we'll see feels-like temperatures in the mid 90s.

tuesday, air temperatures could be in the low to mid 90s. tuesday, hot 92. wednesday, mostly sunny, 90 degrees, thursday we have a cold front push through, it doesn't do much for the temperature, it knocks off the humidity, but it's warm for this time of year, highs around 88 degrees. it's going to be a sticky and oppressive, but most of the summer has been very, very comfortable. i meant to show you this real quick, on this date 9 years ago, the deadliest hurricane struck new orleans this was hurricane katrina. peak winds at one point were 175 miles per hour. the tropics are quiet, we don't have any storms we're to show you. this was the worst case scenario storm for new orleans, just like sandy was our worst case storm on the eastern seaboard.

it was the levies that failed. when katrina ran on onshore, most people forget it was a category 3. had the levies not failed the damage would not have been as severe. we're moving into peak time we have to watch the hurricanes closely, because there's a threat of ingrown, close up hurricanes where the ocean temperatures are so warm next to the coast, they blolsesome out of -- blossom out of nowhere where you don't have warning time. we have to watch september anticipate october. >> they are still cleaning up from katrina, 9 years later. >> as the saying goes, cruise it or lose it, but all that running around can beat up your feet. in the art of aging lisa thomas-laurey gets advice on taking care of those tootsies.

begins today by the art museum in philadelphia. it's a hassle for drivers but a jolt for merchants. the jersey shore is packed for the unofficial end of summer, the weather is beautiful for the beach, boardwalk and barbecues. chris sowers is outside with a look ahead with the forecast. whatever you want to do outside, today is the perfect day to do it. >> reporter: today is the day, tomorrow is not bad, but tomorrow night we have drenching downpours, and it could accuracy problems in parts of the area in terms of of flooding. allentown, 57. trenton, 54. millville, 56. few locations were aloe as 49 degrees. 71 degrees on the aboard walk in atlantic city. 61 in dover. satellite and radar, not much going on, once again this should be a day featuring quite a bit of sunshine and low humidity

levels. although, with that said you'll notice increase in humidity. we'll see dew points in the upper 50s, but they will creep up in the low to mid 60s during the arch hours. no matter where you're going today, 63 degrees at 8 can mean., expect a comfortable high of 74 in the poconos. 78 at the shore. hazy, hot and humid tomorrow afternoon. a couple of thunderstorms expected west of the city, they will produce drenching downpours, how humid you ask? get a load of the heat indices, feel like 97 in trenton, lancaster, 95 and allentown, 93. over the last couple of days we had heat indices that were

security. >> a lot of bills, some people can't get jobs. >> reporter: economic pain is coming to laid off workers, the city's number one salesman mayor don guardian said they are looking for ways to cushion the blow. one idea, the state is looking at a possible up to one year mortgage payment and he thinks for laid off casino workers, something that might minimize foreclosures. the governor is bringing down a program through the state of new jersey that has forgiveness for mortgage. it's a holiday. you add 12 months of nonpayment to the end of your mortgage. you get the credit now you don't pay the mortgage until you get some time. >> reporter: time is what atlantic city needs, guardian said they must reinvent themselves play up the boardwalk and beach and develop hip attractions. in five years they hope this is ac's reputation. >> we have things in this city

you can't do in your hometown. we'll diversify on our market. >> reporter: in atlantic city, john rawlins channel 6 "action news." >> many philadelphia school district students, teachers and parents will spend part of their labor day weekend protesting school budget cuts. at noon they will gather outside governor corbett's philadelphia office on 200 south broad street. the protesters want the pennsylvania legislature to close the budget shore fall bypassing a cigarette tax. corbett supports the measure. superintendent william hite said revenue could prevent more layoffs, lawmakers will not hurn to harass -- return to harrisburg before the school board begins. a man was shot in the leg around 11:00 p.m. on the unit block of north edge wood street. police say they tracked down the

21-year-old shooter driving this suv at 61st and market. the 39-year-old victim is in critical condition at hup. a u-haul truck fire damaged a child learning center. him firefighters knocked down the late-night blaze on wallace street. investigators say the fire started in the u-haul truck and spread to the exterior of little world learning center. how bad the center was damaged is unclear. the investigators are working on the calls of the fire. a runner went into cardiac arrest an long time the schuylkill schuylkill river. ihe was lucky to have a doctor running by. todd has been at the university of pennsylvania hospital since monday when he collapsed on the schuylkill river trail. >> at first we thought he was

seizing. >> reporter: dr. eric members of the jury dal son is a third year resident at hup. >> the phone rang and it todd, i said, what did you forget. it was someone else on there, they said, we have an emergency situation here does he have any heart issues? >> reporter: while his family rushed to the hospital, the group of people ray long the shore administered cpr for 11 minutes, someone ran over to the playground and asked the staff for help. >> someone came in and asking for our aed and the two women who were working our summer staff came out and brought it out to them. >> reporter: i don't know that he would have survived without the defibrillator. >> i'm so grateful to all the people who remember there. of. >> reporter: i think anyone trained in cpr could have done what we did.

down the coast, it's a beautiful morning, breath taking morning, nice and cool, low humidity levels, clear conditions, we have a few clouds out there, that's about it. we're expecting a combustion of sun and clouds later this afternoon and much quieter ocean, we're not expecting the poundings waves and low risk for rip currents. the ocean is calmer than what it's been doing over the last few days as hurricane cristobol came charging up the coastline earlier this week. in philadelphia, 63 degrees, dewpoint, 58. that's nice and low, winds out of the east at 7 miles per hour. they will be shifting out of the south. pressure reading 30.26 inches. here's a look at some of the numbers, nice and comfortable, north and west, 52 degrees in quakertown. 489 this morning. tarnlsville, 54 -- tanersville, 54. warrington, 57. 57 in woodbine, buena, 56. glassboro, 55. satellite and radar, it's going

to be a nice, quiet day we have high pressure hanging on for one more afternoon. it will hit the coast and pull out to sea. that will allow a warm front that you can kind of see right. once the wmplets swings through -- warm front swings through, it will turn oppressive. here's a look at the heat indices, today there's no problems today. the heat indices will match the air temperature. only a slight increase in the humidity. that's our projected high. the heat index is not too much warmer than the air temperature. get a load of tomorrow. tomorrow we're forecasting a high of 90. to get a heat index of 97 that means twiferl awful. labor day we're expecting a high of 89 and heat indices of 87. along with the tropical humidity we'll see the heavy downpours develop. today is nice and quiet, tonight
