don't look now, summer's swelter is not over, it's soupy and showers and thunderstorms are in the accuweather forecast. let's go outside to chris sowers, hey chris. >> reporter: hey, nydia, we haven't had a summer swelter just yet. now we're moving into september, and mother nature is about to change her mind. we're sitting in the 70s and we're 15 to 20 degrees warmer than this time yesterday.

quakertown was down to 49 degrees. this morning they are at 73. philadelphia, 74. sea isle city, 75. dover, 74. numbers wise later this afternoon we're up to 90 degrees which will make the third time this month that we hit 90 degrees or hotter. lancaster reading, 90. a little bit cooler the closer to the coast you go. we think it will feel like 95 or 96 by 3:00, 4:00 it's not just the heat it's the humidity, as well. even though this is not quite heat advisory criteria, we're five degrees cooler than that. you'll have to deal with this. him it's been quite sometime since we've had this kind of oppressive weather. take the slow. there's limited sun. we're used to temperature in the upper 70s low 80s. day planner looks like,

77 degrees at 9:00 a.m., lunchtime, sun and clouds, 86. 3:00 p.m., clouds increasing peeking out around 90 degrees. after 4:00 p.m. there will be a line of thunderstorms that pushes through the viewing area west to east. there could be a big liep of thunderstorms. -- line of thunderstorms. we're expecting strong gusty winds and drenching downpours. the rest of the week, it's warm and sticky. temperatures ranging 87 degrees to 92. moving into september now it's going to feel like july, go first figure. when i step back inside we'll talk the thunderstorm chances nydia. >> we have breaking news, police are looking for a driver who appeared to have intentionally hit four men this morning. the action cam was on the scene the pennypack shopping center on the boulevard. the victims had just walked out of the reds bar when a dark

colored envoy or trail blazer, drove out of the lot and raced around the block and drove back in the parking lot and hit the four and drove off. the victims were taken to the hospital, one is in serious condition the others were treated and released. >> two victims of a home invasion are in the hospital after they were beaten with a hammer. police say someone broke into the home on the 200 block of edge hill road around 4:00 a.m. the two men in the home were hit several times with the hammer. there's no word on how many people carried out the attack. police have not made any arrests. >> the showboat casino in atlantic city is closing for good today. that's followed by revel's closing monday and tuesday, trump shutting its doors september 16. le more than five thousand workers will lose their jobs in just three days, our sharrie williams stopped by by the

when firefighters arrived they discovered fire in the exhaust vent in the wall between the restaurant and the store next-door. nobody was hurt. >> an experimental drug could be a game changer in heart disease. it caused a big stir at a european heart conference where researchers announced it lowered the chance of death or hospitallation by 15%. trials on the drug were stopped early because the performance was so convincing. the drug maker could apply for federal approval by the end of the year. >> still to come on "action news" sunday morning. >> we'll stay on top of our breaking news, the search for a hit-and-run driver, multiple people were struck overnight in philadelphia. >> the eagles make their final cuts, and their season kicks off

have a lot of cloud cover out there that put an atmospheric blanket on us. we have a strengthening wind out of the south that's pulling in the warm southerly flow. that's why we're seeing the warm weather already. we're seeing a system out west, a piece of energy around 15,000 feels. as that pushes east and moves into the warm, soupy air mass it will trigger thunderstorms later on. the severe thunderstorm prediction center says there's a good bet we'll see severe weather in this. there's the possibility of hail. the wider view shows this, there's not much going on across the condition. the pattern is hot, we have a huge heat air dom of high pressure. that's not going anywhere. the entire seven-day forecast is above average, we haven't seen that in quite sometime.

here's future tracker 6 showing the broken line of thunderstorms pushing through this is around 5:00 p.m. you can see how broken apart this is. not everybody will see it. those of you who pick up the thunderstorm, gusty winds, heavy downpours is a good possibility. that crosses over the delaware river into south jersey between 8:00, 9:00 that will hit the coast. first thing tomorrow morning, lots of clouds out there, warm and sticky, we'll see an increase in sun tomorrow as the day wears on. here's the severe threat by the storm prediction center. mainly west of the delaware river, reading, allentown, philadelphia, west of trenton. strong gusty winds and heavy rain a good possibility. for the poconos, lots of clouds, sunny breaks, maybe a couple of thunderstorms, as well. 77. monday, shower horror -- shower or thunderstorm around, 78 degrees, sun and clouds. jersey shore, lots of clouds early, sun by midday and more

>> welcome back everyone, 7:23 sunday morning, you're looking at storm tracker 6 live double scan nice and quiet on the east coast. stormy to the west, we're seeing showers abbey thunderstorms around pittsburgh. all this will push east over the course of the day. let's say by the first part of the afternoon it's there, 3, 4:00 it's here, and through the city by 6 and 8:00. we're expecting heavy downpours and brief gusts of wind. as far as sky conditions we're starting out with cloud cover this morning. if you look closely we're picking up breaks in the cloud deck. we'll see sunny breaks from time to time. it's not going be a sunny day. expect clouds and limited sun and the showers and thunderstorms pull through late. how much rain we're anticipating, not much during the day, most of the day is dry, but the areas that pick up the showers and thunderstorms between 5:00 p.m. and midnight

>> two wildfires sparked by lightning three weeks ago continue to grow in northern california. the fires are near the gold mining town of happy camp and they threaten 250 homes.old low humidity and warm temperatures are driving the blaze which has charred 90 square miles.

temperatures later on, air temperatures getting close to 90. it will feel like 93 to 96 up and down the i-95 corridor. allentown, 95. le reading peaking out at 94. look at the coast, you want some relief head to sea isle city or avalon feels-like temperatures will stay in the 70s it will feel refreshing as the sea breeze kicks in. maybe a little humid, but better than the inland locations. dewpoints in the 70s all week long that's in the oppressive category. 73 today, 73 tomorrow, 71 the number for tuesday and wednesday. thursday, 66 degrees, but we're still talking about air temperatures that will be around 88 degrees, it will be very warm, just a little less humid. satellite and radar, you can see a little bit of holes in the cloud cover over there, so we're expecting mostly cloudy skies at least in the morning hours. later around midday we'll see

peeks of sunshine. this cluster of storms push through that will trigger showers and thunderstorms later this afternoon and into the evening hours. every now and then we pick up lightning strikes on the counter, but for the most part it's heavy rain falling across western portions of pennsylvania. that cluster will push through upstate new york, we'll look to the south for more showers and thunderstorms the heavier stuff to develop that will swing through later this afternoon and into the evening. future tracker 6 will time it out for you. lunchtime, don't be surprised if you see more in the way of sun only to have the clouds rush back in. western suburbs starting to see showers and thunderstorms. some of those could produce heavier downpours, note the colors we're starting to pick up reds and pinks. strong gusty winds and heavy downpours, this crosses over the delaware at 7:30, 8:00. eventually it will work out to sea. tomorrow morning we're stuck with clouds and high humidity
