>> sunday night, sarah is off, i'm walter perez a lot going on tonight including sleeping family on the maip line terrorized by an intruder. and tragedy in the poconos involving three bucks county high school students killed in a car crash. but the big story on "action news" tonight is strong storms moving through the region bringing the threat of heavy downpours and strong twhindz labor day holiday weekend. looking at sky6 in high definition dark clouds over center city philadelphia and sunbatheers continue to soak up the rays in center city. meteorologist melissa magee is live with the latest on stormtracker 6 double scan radar, walter, melissa. >> a good chung of the storms have been for areas north and west of town and in philadelphia. we'll show you the big picture on double scan radar. you see showers and storms across lehigh county and south and east areas into chester,

montgomery and bucks counties. we'll go in a little tighter on stormtracker 6 double scan street-level. we find showers and storms norristown south and west to wilmington and to newark, delaware. a lot of lightning associated with is showers and storms moving to the east. not too quickly at about 40 miles an hour and continue to drift east as we progress through the rest of tonight this is why the storm prediction center placed our region in a slight risk for severe weatherch the biggest threat through the evening will be drepingching rain and gusty winds. it's for interior sections of south jersey and 95 corridor and suburbs from the poconos down into lancaster. the reason why you have instability in the atmosphere that building heat and oppressive humidity the high temperature today in philadelphia, 93 degrees. we have a current heat index of 92 in the city. 86 wilmington and so it's like dover you have current temperature of 98 degrees when you factor in the humidity.

hearing from the grief stricken family of one of the teens the superintendent of school and staff members were here today on this holiday weekend to discuss how to deal with this tragedy. this was the scream of the rollover crash that killed three students from council rock high school south. "action news" confirmed incoming sophomores and 15 years ryan learner, colin kever and shay lynn dig any lost their lives in wayne county pa yesterday morning. it's unclear where they were in the area or what caused the single vehicle crash. we know there were three other teens injured. state police are investigating the accident. those who knew the victims are reacting on social media and this close community. the family of shane dignity he was the youngest and four children and was an athlete that played basketball and football. he participated at council rock

high south. superintendent says the district reached out to the victims' families after the loss. tomorrow is a holiday and they will copy laborer day 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and grief counselors will be on hand for students and parents. >> and we are working to find out more about the injuries of those other three teens who are in that crash. we are told at least two went to council rock high south. we'll have the latest on the story tonight on "action news". reporting live here in holland, bucks county, kenneth moton, "channel 6 action news," walter. >> thank you for that kenneth. a family member of shooting victim in bristol township is now facing charges linked to the incident. authorities arrived on the 4400 block of fayet drive before 4 a.m. they found victims dead from a gun shot wound. authority have not released suspect's name or possible motive at this time a man remains in critical condition tonight after he and three friend were hit by driver of suv

that kept going. this was the scene outside red's bar in the pennypack shopping center in northeast philadelphia. witnesses tell "action news" the victims were walking to their cars when the suspect intentionally ran into them. so far, investigators do not have any suspects in this case. >> and well, authorities in lower merion are looking for hammer wielding intruder that broke into a home early this morning when the family was asleep inside. police do not know if they were intention alley targeted or victims of random attack which has the neighborhood open edge. "action news" reporter annie mccormick has the rest of the story. >> this is the scene early sunday morning as lower merion police dusted for fingerprints and looked for evidence around the living room window where they believe an intruder made entry before getting caught inside. and next door neighbor sam miller shairdz a wall with the family and heard the struggle. >> shouting, angry, afraid, at the same time you know, and i could not hear what they war saying. but it was coming through the wall very clearly.

>> police say 4 a.m. in the 200 block of edge hill road the homeowner and son confronted the suspect and suspect attacked the son with a hammer. police believe there was a car in the alley behind the home waiting for the suspect. >> we just heard the noise. and then afterwards, we thought we saw a car drive up the alley in that direction. >> neighbors described the family as hardworking and kind. police say the son was treated aat a nearby hospital for injuries. sunday afternoon police continued presence in the neighborhood escorting someone close to the family inside to gather belongings. neighbors are rattled by the attack and concerned about their safety. >> we have to call at large company and make sure everything is up to speed and more mindful. >> i'm wondering, why and where

counties and we're tracking brief periods of heavy rain moving on in. and in a short amount of time. you can see we have a lot of lightning associated with the showers and storms from areas in philadelphia, on south and west ward are into media. ardon, chadds ford and wilmington. expect this to be the case fort early half of tonight. for those of you who have been saying it doesn't feel like summer you have your wish today. finally feels like summer. high temperature of 93 degrees. we have oppressive heat and humidity. dew points today were in n this middle 70s which means heat index which you stepped outdoors made it feel like temperatures middle 90s and so far month of august we close it out today. only had three days with temperatures at 90 or higher. and as you look at the numbers. outside this early evening it's 81 in the city with showers and storms moving on through. and getting some rain cooled air in reading now. 78. poconos 73 along the coast in sea isle city 79. dover coming in at 89 degrees. heat index values a little

highlyer than that. here's satellite 6 and action radar. showers and storms firing up from new england down across the mid add plantic region. we're tracking a cold front moving on through. showers and storms will be around for the early half of the evening hours. and there's a lot of moisture as well coming in across the areas in tennessee and ohio river valleys and because of that, there's more moisture to deal with as we get into the actual holiday on monday. future tracker 6 has you covered. 7:30 this evening we have showers to contend with from lakehurst to dover. i'll advance this, 9:00 this evening pockets of showers and storms will be around. biggest threat is rain and sguingty winds. activity will start to diminish as we get after midnight. monday, 8:30 in the morning cloudy start to the day. i cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm popping up at some point with soch humidity and warmth overhead. showers and storms look to refire late monday afternoon. if you travel down the shore, 77 for ocean temperature.
