i'm matt o'donnell. in the news this afternoon grief counselors will be on hand today at a bucks county high school that lost three students to a crash over the weekend and it's also an all-day event. the cleanup fort made in america music festival is well underway this noon. the big story on "action news" at noon is unofficial end of summer. it's been a mild one this year. mild is not a term used to describe today's accuweather forecast. sky6 has a live look at cape may with people on the beach. fire up the grill one last time. dip your toes into the ocean once more. be prepared for storms later. meteorologist karen rogers is filling in for david and has an accuweather preview at the big board. >> for the first week in september we decided to turn up the heat and humidity. nothing happening just yet. that's the way we like it noneye holiday. as we look at stormtracker 6 3d not a lot brewing. a fuel cells popping up to the west. that's the idea today. no widespread activity but a

forecast by looking on to 6abc.com/weather. you can view stormtracker 6 radar and also check the 7-day and hourly forecasts. there's also video from the team of "action news" meteorologists. the revel casino hotel in atlantic city just began the process of emptying out and closing. it opened just two years ago and never recorded a profit. its absence will leave another huge hole in the ac job market and at this point leaves a huge unused bud ago long the beach. sharee williams is live in atlantic city with more on the closure, sharee. >> hotel guests we're told to be out of the hotel by 11 a.m. that portion began to close down an hour ago. the casino portion will close down overnight at 5 a.m. but, happening now, take a look. the revel sign is actually being removed as we speak. this process is definitely underway as some people, of course, reacting to the letters being taken down. a bit of sadness of course to

see this hotel go. that is happening right now. it is underway. revel hotel and casino only open two years. it was a financial disaster before the doors open. while in construction owners needed additional 1 billion dollars to finish the project out. well the hole was so deep to climb out of as the country was facing a great recession at that time. the idea behind revel was more of a luxury resort more so than casino. atlantic city is a gambling town and revel seemed not to factor in the gambling it enforced the only total smoking ban which alienated many gambleers. now the shining glass blue tower is in second bankruptscy. we spoke with several people that came this weekend to stay here for the final weekend or simply just to see it. >> you got to be kidding me it's just opened. can't believe this is happening. >> it's kind of huge for the city also. and like you want people to come

to the casino, even the sign is like hard to get to the casino. >> very disappointed. we vacationed down here probably what, 6 times a year. so, it's unfortunate. >> there's no debate how beautiful this building this hotel and casino that it s a 2.4 billion project. it makes the second casino to close in this one holiday weekend, showboat, of course, closed yesterday between the two hotels. 5,000 people were laid off. sharee williams. performances in los angeles. despite one hour suspension due to heavy rains, concert goers say this was a smashing success. people in philadelphia and across the country are hard at work celebrating what it takes to put in a hard day's work. it's labor day. a hard day's work is way too long. gubernatorial election of tom wolff and come corbett we're supporting tom wolff for governor we believe governor corbett failed us. >> reporter: neej candidate for governor showed up for the labor day parade. challenger tom wolff is marching in labor day parade in pittsburgh. according to the posting on his web site governor core sbit in pittsburgh today and not going to the labor day parade there. live on columbus boulevard, vernon odom, "channel 6 action news." >> thank you, vernon. a raging fire in philadelphia roxboro section left a family-owned dry cleaning business in ruin this morning. firefighters poured water on huge flames leaping out of award dry cleaners, ridge avenue and seher's lane. it spread to two neighboring businesses including auto body shop. crews spent more than an hour bringing the fire under controlch the fire marshall is investigating the cause. council rock high school south will begin offering grief counseling in less than an hour

following the deaths of three in-coming sophomores in weekend suv accident, ryan lesher, cullen keffer and shane dignity died when their suv rolled over in the poconos. all three were 15 years old. three other teens in the vehicle were also hurt and sources say one of them is also a council rock student. the school will be open from 1 until 4:00 today for grieving students and parents. still to come on "action news" at noon, severe weather across the u.s. leading to people getting struck by lightning, flights being cancelled and sporting events being postponed. we'll take a look at the effects of the wild weather elsewhere next and police in furgeson are adding a new weapon against crime that will hold them more accountable and karen rogers returns with a full accuweather accountable and karen rogers returns with a full accuweather 7-day forecast when we come

>> police are still looking for the gunman that shot a woman in the olney section of philadelphia this morning. it happened before 4 a.m. at 5th street and roosevelt boulevardch the woman was shot in the leg. she remains hospitalized in stable condition this afternoon. witnesses say they saw a bathe colored cadillac leaving that scene. a car overturned open lincoln drive early this morning. this was the scene near ridge

avenue in east falls at 2 a.m. police do not know what caused the driver to lose control. that driver was evaluated for injuries at the scene. we were not alone in dealing with strong overnight storms. more than 40 million americans found themselves in the storm zone. people were struck by lightning and there was a damper on the start of college football season. >> torrential rain, thunder and lightning disrupted concert and sporting events in the northeast and stopping play at the u.s. open. dozens of flights were delayed or cancelled from washington to philadelphia to new york. in new york city, three men were struck by lightning at a beach in the bronx. it was a bolt that left many others visually shaken. >> it was really loud, like, vroom like a bomb blew up. >> it was like an explosion. >> another person was struck in iowa, which was also slammed with flooding rains that overwhelmed a two acre farm

well to the west to see that happening. let's go outside and show what you it looks like. because the action cam was out a little earlier and this is what it loongd like this morning we were schrouded in the cloud cover as you can see look at the center city sky line and things since improved. we're seeing more sunshine than we did then and we can see that on the sky6 camera now. 82 currently in philadelphia. the dew point, 73 degrees. a lot of moisture in the atmosphere. you're feeling oppressive humidity out there making it feel hotter that be that 2 degree temperature. winds currently west, southwest at 6 and predominantly south wrlly flow continuing this afternoon and pressure 30.01" and looking at dew points across the region any time you hit 60 starts to feel humid. we're 75 in dover. oppressive humidity, 74 wilmington and 73 city and less less in the north west. 60s in allen toum. you get the idea, humid out there once again today. satellite 6 and action radar showing storms that moved

through yesterday and produced 53 mile an hour wind gusts. we won't see anything like that today. today's storms more scattered in nature not as widespread or strong. cloud cover eroding here owe there through the region own showers popping out to the west. that impact us through the afternoon. this is future tracker six view of what happens and not a lot of storms this is 1:30 in the afternoon we see cells trying to pop up here or there through the region. just kind of scatter around. not everybody sees one today. any one of these could produce very heavy downpours with the humidity that we have in the atmosphere. this say look at 5:30 in the afternoon storms headed through the shore if you're near there and even in the poconos. you have to watch here or there and not everybody will see them. so scattered storms not nearly as widespread as they were yesterday. and so if you're at the shore today you know you're enjoying a good beach day so far despite good amount of clouds and sunshine. you have to keep a close eye for thunderstorms and we'll see some scattered through the area.

on the beach sitting at 3:00 this afternoon, 4. still feeling warm there with more of southwesterly flow not a strong seabreeze. in the pool forecast you want to jump in the pool with temperatures we v humid, few thunderstorms. keep in mind at any point, showers, 1 p.m., 84 and 4 p.m., 86. here's a look at the 7-day forecast this labor day. very muggy and warm, 88 degrees for the high. a few scattered showers or thunderstorms at any point in afternoon and evening. otherwise lots of clouds and sunshine mixing in the look at tomorrow, hot, humid, 94 for the high. we get a few, spot jury thunderstorms and they could produce flooding rain late in the day. watch for that. wednesday, humid, the storm system breaks that 88 for the high. it's warm. but feeling better. thursday, mostly sunny skies and. pretty nice, warm, friday, hot, back up to 90 again. turns more humid and we stay dry on saturday, clouds and sun, we knock the temperature down to 5.
