sarah? >>reporter:the philadelphia police are trying to figure out it was sort of a domestic violent incident. they were in malta in the juniata section this afternoon. he came looking for his girlfriend. instead he came upon her sister and son and then shot them both turning the gun on himself. word spread that something truly terrible happened on malta street in juniata park this afternoon. there was calls of a man with a gun. the neighbors heard three gunshots. the officers found three people lying in the front yard all with gunshot wounds to the head. they believe he was a 42-year-old man looking for his

130,000 kids. it has big problems. one problem that never goes away is the funding issue or the lack of funding depending on your point of view. a decision was made some months ago that they were going to open schools in philadelphia, even though all the funding is not in place. the city or staffers at bieber middle school is welcoming students to school with chants. elsewhere a different chant. the parents are saying that the law enforcements are underfunding the schools. hite says that they meet the state and school unions to give something of value. >> we are making assumptions on cigarette tax being approved and additional revenue with labor. both of those allow us to maintain the current levels of staffing through the school

they started the school off with a prayer and a blessing. they were at the st. simon and jude school in west chester this morning. the father blessed the newly-renovated main office. a prayer was held for the students in the gym before they got to work in the classroom. and students at a charter school in the logan section celebrated a start this morning. they were dressed in africa garb as they kicked off their 17t 17th year in the school district. it has a stunning success rate. 85 to 95% of the students graduate consistently each year. >> if you have a sweet tooth at the convention center was the best place to be. it was at the philadelphia candy gift and gourmet show. culinary students competed.
