make more happen for less. >> good morning, it is 7:00 a.m. on this saturday, september 13, here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." ready for implosion a philadelphia highrise will be demolished in just minutes, we'll bring it to you live when it happens. a man hit while crossing the road in north philadelphia, police are questioning a person in connection with the crash. plus, you may want to take your umbrella with you for any outdoor plans as we keep an eye out for any rain across the region today. meteorologist chris sowers is monitoring the forecast, he is outside right now with a look at the accuweather forecast. good morning to you, eva. it's not looking like a wash,

that's the most important thing to take out of this. it looks like passing showers from time to time, that's the about it. with the clouds cover and passing showers, temperatures will be on the cooler side with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. 66 degrees in reading. 63 in philadelphia. 07 is the popular number up and down the beach from wildwood to sandy hook. here's the satellite and radar composite. we have a couple of areas of low pressure the first one is toward the top of the screen west of buffalo. there's another one developing across the virginias and the carolinas. because these two areas of low pressure are competing for energy they will stay on the weaker sighted and pass up to the northeast and move into new england in the next 24 to 36 hours. therefore, we're expecting a few scattered showers as opposed to a good soaking like we would had the systems merged or come together. there's good news there.

accuweather says expect clouds today, cooler temperatures, maybe a little bit of rain and/or shower activity throughout the afternoon. a cooler high of 72. i meanted to show you what's going on across the high plains. we have 11 states under frost advisories, windchills in the 20s and 0s, that air mass is sliding east and heading in our direction. now the september sun is still warm, that will modify, but wait until you see the morning lows in the seven-day forecast that's coming up in just a bit, eva. >> we begin with breaking news out of pike county pennsylvania, pennsylvania state police have confirmed that one state trooper is dead and another wounded at a shooting at a state police barracks. this happened at 11:00 p.m. during a shift change at the barracks in blooming grove township which is 30 miles east of scranton. police are searching for the gunman in the wooded area where the shots came from.

helicopters are helping in the search along with special response teams on the ground. there's no word at this hour as to what led to that shooting. we'll keep you updated on the breaking story on 6abc and 6abc.com as more information becomes available. 7:03, a germantown apartment buildings will be no more in less than 15 minutes. the action cam is live at the queen lane highrise on west queen lane. you can see people gathering to watch the implosion that will happen in ten minutes. this is making way for a brand new 55-unit low rise rental development. taking a live look from the action cam, now we're looking at the buildings. that's the building that will come down, crews are prepared to implode the 59-year-old building at 7:15. anyone within a one mile radius has been evacuated for safety

regions. a man is being confessed in connection with a deadly hit-and-run accident in north philadelphia. investigators say before midnight a police patrol car started following a honda pilot speeding down allegheny avenue. the car ran several redlights and hit a man who was walking across the street at 24th and allegheny. the victim was thrown 60 yards and hit by another vehicle. the honda went four more blocks, police say the driver got out and made a run for it. police have not said if the man they have taken into custody is the driver. the action cam was in hockessin, delaware, where a bicyclist was killed by a hit-and-run driver. it happened at 8:45 near brekren ridge road.

a bizarre accidents sent three pedestrians and a driver to the hospital in camden. police say the driver was the most seriously hurt. it took nearly an hour for rescuers to cut him free from the wreckage and rush him to cooper university hospital. the driver and one of the pedestrians are in critical condition. the other two pedestrians were treated and released. it took a philadelphia jury just 6 hours to find christina regusters guilty on all six sownts oh -- counts and took -- >> reporter: it took 6 hours for the jury to convict christina regusters they concluded this was her a 19-year-old who wore a

muslim disguise to gain access to the child's elementary school. she took the girl to a nearby house and sexually is alling her during a 19 hour ordeal keeping the girl naked under a bed. detectives say she tried to fool 5-year-old. >> she fed her information about an alleged man including showing her a picture on a cell phone. there's no evidence to suggest that man existed. >> reporter: a day later she was left alone after dark at a park dressed in t-shirt. police closed in on the regusters with the little girl's help. >> the child was able to identify the home by the back tears, and knew about the bird. >> reporter: this is marty the bird. police say this is a closed case, but her lawyer thinks there were others involved.

>> i don't think she had the capability of coming up with a scheme like this. >> reporter: the victim's mother we want when the verdict came down -- we went when the -- wept when the verdict came down. >> she didn't ask for an i.d. she took a child out of the school and handed over to a stranger. >> reporter: and the school district said it has no comment at this time since there's pending litigation, regusters is expected to be sentenced in december and the d.a. is seeking a life sentence. at the criminal justice center, sharrie williams channel 6 "action news." >> a berks county man was found passed out with two children and three homemade bombs. a passer by spotted him, the passer by called police who arrested him. what the him bombs were for is

unclear, it's not known if the children are wallies. he is charged with having weapons of mass destruction and risking a catastrophe. a heroin dealer is off the streets of newark, delaware, authorities say he is 14 years old. police were patrolling the intersection of arnold court, when officers approached the teen, he threw 25 bags of heroin on the ground. he was quickly arrested at the scene. he remains in custody at the new castle county detention center. >> it was opening night for allentown's brand new 117 million-dollar ppl center, but they were taking easy. ♪ the grammy award winning classic rock band the eagle swooped in for the debut performance. now that the arena checked in, allentown hopes it never leaves.

the north, both will push off to the northeast throughout the day. we're checking a couple of showers as opposed to a soaking rain. there's the low to the south, the second one passing on by to canada. occasional shower possible, otherwise lots of clouds, it will be a cooler day highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. east northeasterly breeze beginning to strengthen. tomorrow this system is out of here and pushing into the canadian maritimes we'll see the sunshine return and mild temperatures highs in the low 70s. future tracker 6, midday, showers approaching the area moving in southwest to northeast, by 5:00, 6:00, they are pushing out. by 7:30 we're seeing the skies begin to clear. overnight tonight we'll go clear and couple with temperatures dropping into the 40s. not looking too bad. this is a very small little system. it's a nuisance event. clouds and rain, cooler high of

stories, as we said. it's been vaint -- vacant for the past several years. the 59-year-old queen lane apartment will be imploded at 7:15. all the people within one block of the buildings has been required to move out. the second zone, that's the dust zone there will be dust in that area, as well. there will be replace the by a $22,000,000.55 unit rental development with townhomes and low-rise buildings. that will be occupied by december, 2015. we saw this a short time ago, a group of people gathering at the scene to watch the buildings come down. at the point was occupied there were 115 units. this was vacated in 2011. the plans have come into

fruition, because the neighborses objected to the initial plans fore this site. chopper 6 taking a live look at the queen lane apartment building which at any moment will come down. they will be imploded. you see they have the area cleared. there you see workers and other people standing by watching to see as this buildings finally comes down and makes way for this new development that will go in it's place. >> nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one!

>> reporter: welcome back everyone, 7:24 saturday morning, you're looking at satellite and radar, i just got off the phone with accuweather, about an hour and hour and half ago, they are concerned about the pattern that has developed over the past couple of weeks which continue to show the southern storms developing in this part of the

country racing up the eastern seaboard. we know what coastal storms mean in this part of the county. we have storms move in and stall off the coast and ride up into new england. that brings the moisture. over the last several weeks we've seen three of these, they bring in rain off the atlantic. this will do the same thing. forfortunately there's another e that will compete for the, in. we're not talking about a huge storm we're talking about scattered showers. it's not looking like a rain day per se. but there could showers out there, it's the overall pattern that's looking alarming for the up coming winter season. temperatures are low 70s south and east, mid to upper 60s north and west. >> turning to sports, the phillies fails the marlins again at the bank after a dramatic win in extra insisting -- innings.

[explosions] >> and just like that the long shadow of the queen lane apartments were a erased from the skyline this morning. the 16 story building was vacant for two years, it will be replaced by 55 new flats, walk ups and townhouses. here's a look at what's left of the building now from chopper 6hd. you can see the rubble, the streets around the former highrise will remain closed while crews work to clear the dust and debris caused by the implosion. new this morning, a south philadelphia house fire has

claimed the life of an 82-year-old woman. the action cam was at the scene of south marshall street. when fire engines arrived flames were spitting out of both floors. firefighters pulled the victim from the second floor bedroom. she was pronounced at the scene. the woman's daughter escaped without injuries. investigators have found one smoke alarm in the basement. there's no word yet on the cause. two women were hurt in an overnight crash in northeast philadelphia. police say they were traveling south on rising sun avenue near adams around 2:00 a.m. when the driver lost control and ran off the road. the car hit a utility pole and traffic light before flipping over. one of the women was trapped inside, both were taken to einstein for treatment. no word on any charges in that crash. >> the d.a. will seek a life sentence for christina regusters

the women convicted of abdomin ducking a 5-year-old from a -- abducting a 5-year-old from a elementary school. she was impersonating the girl's mother and took her from bryant living room school l. the girl suffered severe injuries and the parents are suing for negligence. pennsylvania spca rescued cats from this farm in lancaster county. officers found dozens of cats and kittens needing medical care. they are being treated at the pcpca philadelphia headquarters an investigation is underway. homes appear to be sinking on one block in philadelphia's east wick section and residents are asking for help. city council johnson and the army corps of engineers and

california's cleveland national forest. the flames have scorched 2 square miles of drought stricken brush. homes are at the bottom of the silverado canyon. 300 firefighters are battling the blaze in temperatures that are supposed to reach 100 today. we'll take a look at this army of angry snowmen in cal calgary. more than a dozen little grumpy snowmen were built after a storm knocked out power to thousands of people. the early taste of winters was one of the earliest snowfalls on record. i love that the snowmen all have grumpy faces. >> reporter: if we had snow here right now, i would be unhappy, it is september.we had snow here

through the western suburbs as i speak moving into berks county pushing toward the northeast at 20 miles per hour. so it should be in the reading area, probably now over the next 15 minutes or so, eventually pushing up into the lehigh valley. we'll zoom into storm tracker 6 live double scan, for the most part this is on the lighter side. every now and then we pick up a shade or two of croal which will indicate a -- yellow which will indicate a heavier downpour. the wider view shows systems pushing off to the northeast. that will provide very light wet weather today. look at the shot across the high plains, 42 in bismarck. windchills in time 20s and 0s, they are seeing the snow across the higher elevations of the northern rockies and canada. this is an impressive cold shot of air.

fortunately it is september, the sun is still hot. as that advances in our direction it will modify. it will be cooler than average, but we'll be in the 60s and 70s we're not talking about anything too terribly cold. we'll have showers from time to time, nothing heavy. systems pushing out by 9:00 p.m., we're clear west of the city, the cloud line will push east by 11:00, it will clear the coast, overnights tonight, mainly clear skies and a lot of sunshine expected tomorrow. here's what to expect today, lots of clouds, cool, light rain developing between noon and 6:00 p.m. there could be a renegade shower before this time frame. that's when the steadiest will arrive. there could be dry stretcheses between noon an 6:00 p.m. jersey shore, not a good beach day, lots of clouds, light rain,
