>> ♪ >> good morning everyone, it's 5 o'clock, it is tuesday, september 16th and we're following breaking news. >> a man shoots and kills another man after finding that man in his daughter's bedroom overnight. >> a 15-year-old school girl is found unconscious other side of a busy road. police say she was assaulted as she tried to make her way home from school. >> trump plaza closes its doors this morning. it is the fourth atlantic city casino to go belly up this year. >> and we have showers moving through the region right now. let's get details from david and karen. good morning. >> storm tracker 6 live double scan with the latest images of these showers piing them up right now. you can see there's some heavy weather or at least heavy rain in small pockets that are pushing out of southern berks county into northern montgomery county or northern chester county, the western edge of montgomery county. chester county right through the heart is also seeing this and down in new castle county, if you're in wilmington you're about to get hit with a

steadier shower. these aren't going to last all that long but as they're coming through they will make the roads pretty darn wet. down to the south not as much going on. a little bit of rain is pushing in south of dover and then out to the north and west, there is the possibility of a couple of more sprinkles and showers. allentown we're keeping our eyes out in allentown for possible rain. looks like philadelphia could pick up this before too much longer. the wide view shows i was lot of cloud cover, some more rain out to the west but beyond that there is clearing and we expect some improvement during the day. 65 in wilmington, 68 in sea isle city. not as chilly as yesterdayly as we head out the door to start up the car or get on that school bus, cloudy skies between 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock. temperature in the low 60's in philadelphia and some spotty shower possible. as we roll through the day we see improvement. we're up to 70 by noon. showers should be over by then and by 3 o'clock 76 degrees and that is going to be your high today. light winds and reemerging sunshine as the afternoon goes

on. let's see if we can keep this nice pattern going in the accuweather 7-day, okay, karen. that's coming up. >> all right, dave, big problems with mass transit right now and it's with amtrak, the northeast corridor no service between philadelphia and d.c. they're having some equipment problems and no idea at this point of when they're going the resume service. we'll be on top of this throughout the morning so watch for that no snow flurries you're heading southbound. philadelphia and d.c. between that area some downed wires are causing the problems right now and new schedules go into effect, septa regional rails so watch for that, they took effect over the last couple days. let's take you outside. this is radnor township, the blue route here approaching the schuylkill, no problems just yet. southbound near villanova we had some overnight paving and that has since cleared. we're watching for those spotty shower there david has been talking about, no the creating a big impact yet but we'll watch for that as the commute wears on. in olney a problem, an overnight accident where a vehicle ran into a storm look for it on champlost avenue near second street.

and also on the boulevard northbound we have construction going on continuing to do paving here and it's in the inner drive between rhawn and red line. that's northbound on the boulevard. meanwhile we've got a problem here southbound near red lion. we've got a fluid spill blocking two lanes in the outer drive so issues going on in the inner drive and the outer drive this morning, matt. >> thanks, karen. we begin with breaking news. a man came face to face with another man inside his daughter's bedroom overnight and opened fire. and now one of them is dead. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is live in the satellite center with what we know. good morning, erin. >> good morning, matt. this is a homicide investigation. police say the 32-year-old man they found with a gun shot wound to the head inside the second floor apartment in northeast philadelphia died in an area hospital early this morning. now, the initial call came around 11:30 last night to the 2700 block of ax factory road which is the holmes circle apartments. apparently a 41 year old resident woke up when he heard

noises inside his second floor apartment. he went into his 20-year-old daughter's room and found a man who police are calling an intruder crouched down inside her bedroom. investigators say there was a struggle and the 41-year-old father shot the 32-year-old man in the head. he was brought to an area hospital where as we said he died a few hours later. police believe at this point the man climbed up into a rear bedroom window, possibly by using a fence nearby but it is unclear at this time whether or not the 32 year old man broke into the apartment or was let inside. >> the window to the property, there was no sign of any force. however, the blinds inside did have some damage that they appeared to have been disturbed by someone who would come through the window. >> now, police tell us that the resident of the apartment did turn over his gun to

police. he and his daughter are with homicide detectives right now being questioned. they were not harmed. no charges have been filed yet but of course as we receive more information about this case we'll bring it to you in the morning newscast. i'm live in the satellite center, erin o'hearn, channel6 "action news." matt back to you. >> lots more to sort out. thank you erin. a driver slammed into a hair salon in olney. karen mentioned this in traffic. it happened on the 200 lock of west champlost avenue at 12:15 a.m. the 24-year-old driver an 21 year old passenger suffered head and neck injuries. they were taken to the hospital in stable condition. building inspectors and pgw crews were called to check for damage. >> it is 5:05 and philadelphia police are trying to find out if a sexual predator attacked a young girl on her way home from school. the 15-year-old girl was found unconscious in the woods just outside pennypack park in the northeast. a passerby spotted the girl by the guardrail here on the 7500 block of roosevelt boulevard around 7:45 last night.

police say she had bruises on her shoulder and thighs and a bump on the back of her head. >> special victims detectives are on location at saint christopher's hospital. they'll interview her parents that are on the scene, they'll interview doctors. the doctors are very important because they're going to tell us where they think the bruises came from and if, in fact they believe that there was any type of sexual assault at all. >> "action news" has learned that there is video of the girl on the septa route 14 bus hours before she was found. the girl got off the bus and told police that a man followed her as she walked along the boulevard. her parents alerted police after she didn't answer dozens of cell phone calls. katherine scott has a live report on this story coming up in our next half hour. >> police say two shootings near a north philadelphia charter school may have stemmed from an ongoing drug war. children were on the playground just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon when the gunfire erupted at broad and north park streets. it is just across the street from kip charter school. none of the children was hurt.

police say there was an earlier shooting before students and staff arrived and believe a man was hit by a bullet in that incident but they have not been able to locate that victim. police have increased patrols in the area. >> a fourth atlantic city casino is going out of business this morning. the trump plaza will close its doors in about 50 minutes after 6:00 a.m. the casino has been declining for years performing worse than any of the city's other casinos. about a thousand employees will be jobless. joining the ranks of 7,000 other recently laid off casino workers. a maryland casino may offer some of these workers a second chance. the maryland live casino in hanover is holding job fares in philadelphia for full and part-time positions. the interviews take place at x-finity live at the sports checks from noon until 4:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. >> hello vanessa williams. the eagles saved the best for last. they have two come back wins and are now two and zero. the birds put up 450 yards of

offense against the colts in indianapolis last night and did it behind an offensive line that featured several backups due to injuries. plus, darren sproles once again jolted the offense, racked up almost 200 total yards, ran for a touchdown. the eagles rallied from a 14-point deficit in the third quarter and seven points in the closing minutes to tie it. two colts turnovers were a key in the final seconds, that's what happened. new eagles kicker codey park key hit a field goal winning it 30 to 27. >> it was incredible especially against the team that kind of traded me so it was all fun. >> the "action news" sports team will have much more on the eagles-colts game. watch eagles game day final tonight following "action news" at 11:00. redskins next on sunday. might be deshawn parker -- desean jackson coming to play the eagles. >> felt like football weather last night. you say by this weekend and the redskins it may maybe feel more like summer again.

>> going to be back the way it was for opening weekend, yeah. storm tracker 6 live double scan and we have an issue right now and that is some rain that our array of national radars is picking up including storm tracker 6 live double scan. let's get you a closer view and this is beginning to widen out a little bit as it gets close to pushing into philadelphia and is beginning to get some of our more heavily traveled roadways wet. you can see how it's coming from the west. i'll go in tight on the area around philadelphia and it looks like the blue route is beginning to pick up some of this right near media, i-95 starting to get wet and the schuylkill expressway before too much longer. that's the schuylkill right there coming straight down into philadelphia. western suburbs, downingtown, coatesville, either in the rain or getting close to being on the other side of it and these heavier cells highlighted in yellow, it's not a super pounding rain but it's pretty steady and as that comes down, it is going to make your roads wet and probably keep them wet even a little ways after the rain passes and there you see how wilmington is also about ready to pick up some of this as well. want to go out wide one more time, maybe go up to

allentown. boy it isn't taking long for it to get up into the lehigh valley. slatington starting to pick up some of the light stuff, saucon valley, quakertown before too much longer. this won't last all that much long but there's another band farther out to the west that might also be an issue. i think it could be about maybe nine, 10 o'clock before all of this is over by the coast and getting out of here. as we look outside we have cloudy skies of course at the airport and dry for now but it looks like things are going to get at least temporarily wet down here. 62 degrees in philadelphia currently, 53 in allentown, 65 in wilmington. 55 in trenton and i am going to go ahead and bring in that always on seven day if you're watching an hd65 in wilmington, 59 in millville and 68 degrees right now in sea isle city. another cool start, not quite as cool as yesterday but of course today we have the showers to deal with and at 7:30 future tracker future tracl has some of this stuff in the

central portion of the region. by about 10 o'clock or so most is moving towards the east. might be some stuff left but you can also see how from the west we'll start to see some dry air come in. as we roll through the afternoon looks like we'll transition to mainly sunny skies with some leftover clouds mixing in. should be a lot better later on, though. clouds and sun up in allentown a-nice afternoon ahead with a high of 73 degrees. down the shore, not too bad on the beach in the afternoon. in the morning you'll be dealing with those showers and some clouds but later on 74 degrees and not a bad afternoon on the beach. and in philadelphia, we're also looking at that same sort of improvement. clouds in the morning, a couple of showers around but then sun returning in the afternoon. it gets nice with a high of 76. winds six to 12 miles per hour. we'll start out in the 60's at 8 o'clock but spending most of the afternoon in the mid 70's. that high of 76 probably around 3 o'clock. and then tomorrow high pressure really starts to build in and we get a day of abundant sunshine on wednesday. it is going to be comfortable t your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, today's high

corridor that's the big news with no service between philadelphia and d.c. looking at some other areas, outside live looking in chester county we can see it's wet here now as david has been talking about, these showers moving through so this is the 30 bypass at 340. eastbound traffic headed towards downingtown here and no delay just yet coming from coatesville or thorndale but you have a slower ride because of wet weather. northeast extension northbound past mid county construction blocking the left lane and it's locking two lanes at this point as you head westbound between fort washington and norristown. we could bring in right now your best way to see the showers in the area and that's with storm tracker 6 live double scan with our live radar showing showers pushing through now hitting parts of philadelphia and wilmington it's a little heavier. we were just looking live in coatesville and you can see how the wet weather hit us there and particularly heavy right along route 100 near pottstown be careful if you're headed there right now but this is just amount event tam. the rest of the afternoon is going to be dry.

>> good to know. thank you karen. there is still no sign of an 18-year-old college student missing since saturday. hannah graham is a second year student is the university of virginia. charlottesville police say she was last heard from at 1:20 in the morning saturday when she texted a friend. the search so far has found no trace of graham. and a south jersey mother is accused of stealing $9,000 from her own daughter's cheerleading squad. janine hamilton is a board member of the association. she claims somebody stole her purse with $5,000 in inside but police say she actually took the money. the young cheerleaders held a fundraiser at rita's water nice marlton last night determined to keep the squad together. >> major league baseball suspended jonathan papelbon for seven games for making a lewd gesture to fans during sunday's home loss. mlb also fined him for bumping the umpire after he was ejected. the phillies were out west last night and forgot their bats.

had been southbound between red lion and halderman blocking two lanes of the outer drive. it just cleared. northbound though near rhawn we have paving going on in the inner drive, dave. >> on the big board storm tracker 6 live double scan right now karen and you can see that there is a line of showers coming through the central portion of the region. this is affecting new castle county delaware right now. chester county still trying to get rid of this and montgomery county taking over more and more of the rain, berks county beginning to dry out. allentown picking up some showers. in philadelphia these are also now starting to push in toward the schuylkill expressway. this isn't going to last real long, maybe for a half hour or hour you'll have the rain falling and it will largely be light with some steadier cells but it is making roads wet and beyond the rain it will take awhile for to it dry out. if you're headed down to southern or central delaware and eventually the southern portions of south jersey you're liable to get a little bit of that. dressing the kids you might want an umbrella on the way out the door this morning. this afternoon though we're looking after improvement with a warmup coming your way and drying out.
