good afternoon, in the news, downed wires cause amtrak to shut down service between philadelphia and d.c., and we are live with the latest on when service will return. >> and two americans are among those killed when a suicide bomber attacks in kabul. >> but the big story on "action news" is the backing news of a gunman that ambushed two pennsylvania state troopers in pike county. police know who they are looking for in the shooting that claimed the life of corporal brian dickson and the shooting of alex douglas. they found a vehicle near the barracks. and evidence was found inside of that jeep that connects the suspect to the ambush, we learned that the suspect lives and works in delaware. authorities are interviewing the suspect's family members but have not point pointed his

"action news" reporter john rawlins is joining us live from 30th street station. >> reporter: the good news here frankly is that the service northbound is going at this point in time. the service to the north is still going on and because they have equipment issues, and nothing coming out of washington, d.c., southbound is something of a mess, the southbound northeast regional trains are only making it here to philadelphia and the high speed is making it to wilmington and that is it, nothing going south of there. >> when i got to new york to pen station to get on the train, there was quite a bit of chaos and we learned there was wired down in wilmington and nobody was going farther than philadelphia. >> not good. >> not good, no train service south of philadelphia, the amtrak is shut down and thousands of passengers are impacted. the culprit, a large piece of

equipment fell that is near a b arab -- aberdeen, maryland. >> it was carrying a wide load and it hit a support pole that caused significant damage and our crews are out there basically since that time to get the service back. >> so maroon onned passengers here in philadelphia are requiring patience. >> they were to provide buss to take us south, when we got off, they initially told us that the buses would be here between 8:30 and 9:00 and then they told us between 10:30 and 11:00, now they are telling us between 11:30 and 12:00. >> finally the first of the buses did arrive, the hope to make it to d.c. by 3:00 this

nora muchanic will have more in a live report at 12:30. the investigation continues into a shooting inside a northeast philadelphia apartment, a man says he shot and killed a would be intruder as he tried to get in his home. but the would be intruder may not have been an intruder at all. katherine scott joins us live with the details. >> reporter: police are trying to get to the bottom of this one, this was an intruder that broke into a second floor apartment here and police are also investigating that the man was the boyfriend of the homeowners daughter and had been invited in. police were called to the home circle apartments last night just after 11:30, the initial call indicated that an intruder, broke into a second floor apartment and was shot by the 41-year-old homeowner. police are investigating if the 32-year-old man was shot to

a semi truck driver was left in a precarious position after his truck overturned on a highway in dallas yesterday. the truck was hauling construction equipment when it fell over on its side and hung there precariously over the ramp for hours and they saw a crew member damaging over the edge at one point. crews worked for a long time to remove the damage. the vikings are facing criticism for allowing adrian peterson to play while awaiting charges. former players are lining up to question the vikings motives, the vikings reinstated the running back on monday and expect him to play against the new orleans saints on sunday. he says he is not a child

megan was sitting at her home and ways hit by a stray bullet. he has nine prior arrests and is wanted for the murder of her and her baby. the infant girl did not survive. students went back to class today after gun fire erupted near a north philadelphia charter school. things were quiet today as kid ass arrived into class. kidses were on the playground and students hit the ground and were brought back to class, no one at the school was hurt and parents we talked to today said the school is safe but the neighborhood is not. >> i tell my kids stay close to the school and don't come out before i come, i try to get here 10 mines before and after. >> to come around here and do this is uncalled for. >> the students were not rele e released from school until the police gave the all clear.

a 15-year-old girl found unconscious in philadelphia was not sexually assaulted. she was found in a wooded area outside of pennypack park. the victim is a student from the academy of philadelphia and she told police she got off a septa bus and starting walking and a man tried to talk to her and she was then knocked out from behind. a fire driven by north winds raced through a california town yesterday, burning a church to the ground and burning or destroyed more han 100 homes. this is one of several fires burning right now in the state. mar marcy gonzales has the latest. >> reporter: this fire is tearing through a north california community. sending residents fleeing for

and wilmington and close to that all the way to the shore along the coast, 74 degrees and light winds and sunshine breaking through as we look at sky 6, 76 by 3:00 and that is your high, 74 by 5:00 and probably holding on to a fair amount of sunshine with clouds around and by 7:00, 70 and clear skies for the most part, the overnight low gets to 57 and suburbs are down in the 40s, a nice evening, down at ppl park, with that playoff game tonight. the low that gave us the rain and early morning clouds and high pressure replaces it and tomorrow is a day of abundant sun, it should be a real good looking day. better than some other spots, out in the atlantic, hurricane edox uard. >> if you are down the shore the

next couple of days, the water could get choppier around the coastline, right now there is no talk of rip currents but i would be careful if you saw the waves go up and we have tropical storm odile and this continues to drop the rain in mexico and the bands in the southwest where we have recent problems with flooding, we may have more of that over the next couple of days from odile. a mix of sun and clouds today with a nice high of 76, great weather for the union and seattle down at ppl park, tomorrow is that day where high pressure gets closer and we clear out the clouds, it will be pleasant again with a high of 75, low humidity and a lot more sun and pleasant again on thursday with partly sunny skies and a high of 76, the overnight lows are all in philadelphia getting down into the 50s, and that means the suburbs could be in the 40s with all of these afternoon highs, and friday
