you say, karen? >> yeah, it was cool out there today. you might want long sleeves or a little sweater as you're headed out. satellite 6 and action radar showing we'll have a nice and bright today. today is going to be the sunniest day of the seven day period. get outside and enjoy it despite some pretty cool temperatures as matt said. 47 degrees in martin's creek in the 40's in the lehigh valley, 48 degrees in quakertown but 53 in pottstown, 50 in saint davids. about 54 right now in center city. some of the suburbs in new jersey mostly about 50, 52 degrees, 50 in browns mills, 52 in hammonton, 60 degrees on the boardwalk in ac and in dover delaware 52 degrees this morning. so, we are off to a cool start but we're going to see that sunshine building in and really staying with us through the afternoon. so,'s it's a nice one today, we're dry, no weather related problems. a high of 75 degrees so a few degrees below average, tam. >> thank you, karen. well, this morning we're beginning with a developing story. philadelphia police credit social media for helping in

the investigation of a hate crime in the heart of center city. "action news" reporter katherine scott is at central detectives. she's got the very latest. good morning, katherine. good morning, tam. that's right, police say social media really helped in this case. the group of people attacked two gay men in center city last week and now "action news" has learned that the attorneys for some of that group of people have been coordinating with central detectives to bring their clients in for questioning. this surveillance video from last thursday night was taken minutes before the center city attack. around 10:45 detectives say around 15 people encountered two gay men ages 27 and 28 at 16th and chancellor streets near walnut. one men asked if the men were boyfriends then came the slurs. the men were attacked beaten and robbed of a cell phone and wallet. a long time friends of the victim says one of the men needed surgery for severe facial injuries and his jaw was wired shut. >> the boys are just really

happy that there's clear footage and they just keep repeating that they want justice done not just for them but so that it never happens again in philadelphia. >> reporter: and now police are crediting this video and the subsequent social media sleuthing by twitter users for helping push this investigation forward. >> i just kind of feel like it was the decent thing to do and i like to hope if i didn't do it someone else would do it. >> reporter: he explains he was disgusted by the attack and many of his followers were too as they joined in on the effort. he tweeted the video to thousands of followers and retweet antidepressant picture taken of this group at a nearby restaurant. he looked on facebook to see who had checked into the restaurant and soon started clicking on links and matching pictures to the video. he got a twitter shout out from police for his work. >> people on twitter recognized something was absolutely wrong and disgusting and did something about it. >> reporter: and police are still looking for tips even if you were in that area hadn't

nothing to do with the attack, police want to hear from you. call central detectives. we're live at central detectives, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> katherine, thank you for that. also developing right now a water main ruptured and flooded a center city neighborhood overnight. the action cam is live this morning and you can see all that water gushing out of a buckled roadway right there on seventh and locust streets. police were in the area of washington square differenting diverting traffic. >> we have another developing story. a man was shot during a drive by shooting in north philadelphia. the gunfire erupted along the 2300 block of north 17th street just before midnight. the 36 year old victim tells police he was on the corner waiting for the bus when he was shot in the face. police say the man was able to run a lock where they found him and rushed him to the hospital. that victim is currently in critical condition but is expected to survive. police are looking for a silver car with tinted

windows. also following breaking news, something we just learned a few hours ago. the minnesota vikings have done an about face and instead of allowing adrian peterson to play this weekend, they have decided to ban him from the team. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is live in the satellite center with this abrupt turn around. erin. it was abrupt. the team's reverse course comes after a dave public pressure from angry fans and concerned sponsors. the vikings have barred peterson from all team activities until his child abuse case is resolved. he was indicted last week in texas on a count of reckless or negligent injury to a child. the charges stem from a whipping incident that reportedly left bruises on his four year old son. he was also accused of injuring another one of his four year old sons last year but there were never any charges filed. the stunning reversal comes after several sponsors criticized the nfl for the

scandals involving peterson and ray rice including anheuser bush. and the vikings issued a strong statement saying "we want to be clear. we have a strong stance regarding the protection and welfare of children and we want to be sure we get this right. at the same time we want to express our support for adrian and acknowledge his seven plus years of outstanding compliment to this organization and to this community ." anheuser bush release add statement saying it was disappointed with the way the nfl was handling the negative attention surrounding former baltimore ravens running back ray rice's assault of his then fiancée and for peterson's arrest for child abuse. again, the vikings reversing its decision and peterson has been barred from all team activities. i'm erin o'hearn, live in the satellite center. tam back to you. >> thank you for that. a former bucks county band teacher surrendered on charges she had sex with a middle school student. the 31-year-old faces up to 25

years in prison if convicted. the sexual relationship allegedly took place two years ago when she taught the then 14-year-old victim at lenape middle school in doylestown. school officials say they received a tip last week and they suspended the teacher the next day. septa police want your help finding these two men who laugh as a man passes out and then they rob him. instead of aiding the unconscious man or calling for help one of the suspects picks his pockets snatching the victim's cell phone. this happened at 2:40 in the morning on sunday at the broad street subway line at the erie station. the main suspect is believed to be in his early 30's and was last seen wearing a gray cape may zip up hoodie. a full house vote on the philadelphia cigarette tax could come as early as today. a pennsylvania house committee unanimously approved the two dollars a pack fee. the tax is expected to put $80 million back into the city's cash strapped school system. governor tom corbett has commited to signing the legislation. >> first look at business on

this wednesday morning. a new report finds that nearly 90 percent of hospitals in areas affected by superstorm sandy were not prepared to cool with its aftermath. 172 hospitals in hard hit areas of new jersey, new york and connecticut were assessed and found that hospitals faced critical challenges such as electrical and communications failures, problems getting fuel and a lack of beds to meet the surge in patients. turning to wall street stocks soared higher on tuesday. righteous -- futures are mixed: ios8 is available for several iphone ipad and ipod touch models. the upgrade software includes a new help app, more photo editing options and the ability to turn off those sometimes annoying group text messages. tam, back to you. >> all right, thank you, matt. fashionistas got a first look at the trends originating right here in philadelphia.

flooding rain in parts of the country we've had a lack of rain. we are dry, looking good. let's head outside. we're going the see what it looks like this morning and looking live at philadelphia international airport in hd and so far so good out there. we may see a touch of fog in one or two spots but not noticing any big issue just yet as you're headed out. that temperature just 57 degrees right now. the dewpoint 50 degrees, nice and low. the winds out of the north-northwest at six and it's going to bring in that cooler air that we've had and just a light breeze. that pressure 30.03-inches. bringing on our always on seven day so you can peek ahead if you want to check out weekend. satellite 6 and action radar showing mostly clear skies, just a couple clouds out there. bright sunshine, one of the brightest days of the week. we've got a real beauty ahead for us today. as we look at highs across the region temperatures going to be a little below the average high of 78 but sunny and nice, just a bit cool. 73 degrees in allentown, 74 in reading, so in the lehigh valley low to mid 70's.

75 degrees in the city and some of the suburbs in new jersey also hitting 70, 72. along the coastline a little cooler, 70, 71 in cape may and atlantic city, 72 in millville, new jersey. but the day itself beautiful because of this bubble of high pressure overhead. mostly sunny and gorgeous, 75 degrees for your high today and even tomorrow we're going to see just a couple of clouds mixing in but high pressure giving us a really nice day tomorrow as well. so, we've got a couple of good days and in fact even though we're talking about cooler weather today and tomorrow, things are going to warm up for us. we continue to talk about tropical storm odile and we're watching flooding rains in the desert southwest but flash flooding still possible with some areas getting as much rain as they normally see in about a half year so we're talking significant rainfall for some spots. here's your accuweather 7-day forecast. for us sunny and nice, 75 degrees for your high today, a good one and staying

was helping students learn to use the emergency door at the back of the bus. the bus ran over the driver and crashed into a tree. police are calling her a hero. a man in upstate new york has been indicted on charges he attempted to provide material support to isis. yesterday after anti-war protesters were cleared from the senate hearing room, army general martin dempsey chairman of the joint chiefs of staff says that american troops may be needed on the ground to defeat isis. dempsey said if president obama's current strategy of airstrikes does not turn the tide against isis he would recommend to the president that american troops accompany iraqi forces on attacks against the militants. congress could vote as early as today on a bill that would authorize the arming and training of moderate syrian rebels as part of the effort to attack isis in syria. >> 3,000 american troops are headed to west africa to battle the growing ebola out

break. it is almost double the amount being deployed to iraq. president obama called it a national security priority when he made the announcement at the centers for disease control headquarters in atlanta yesterday. the military personnel will build new facilities to meet demand and train health workers. in washington d.c. dr. kent brantly testified before the senate about contracting and surviving the ebola virus. he says it is time action catches up to the media attention. >> the response to date, however, has remained sluggish and unacceptablely out of step with the scope and the size of the problem that is now before us. >> 2400 people in west africa have died in the outbreak. the world health organization says the number of ebola cases could begin doubling every three weeks. >> frightening. it is 4:47. all new on "action news" this morning, more details emerge in the death of comedian joan rivers. >> and we'll tell you what staffers claim her doctor did

. >> welcome back. let's take a look at some of the traffic spots around town. first up, this is center city the vine at eighth. the traffic is moving along well there but nearby look out for a water main break at seventh and locust. the road is buckled and the water still coming out of the ground so you should go for fifth or ninth street instead. let's go to fort washington. route 309 under the turnpike, no issues on 309 but look out for work zones on the turnpike westbound between bensalem and norristown and on the new jersey turnpike there was a truck fire overnight southbound near the pa turnpike connector. we're going to have more details on that coming up. matt. >> indeed. matt pelman will be joining us. good morning everyone. midweek. let's talk about your travel forecast. first, what is the deal with odile the former hurricane now remnants of it passing through parts of mexico, also parts of arizona, new mexico and it's going to affect flights but we're talking about the other side of the story as well later on in the newscast.

could see some flooding rains there but sky harbor international airport could see delays because of these flooding rains coming from the remnants of odile so that's just one of the locales we're looking out for possible weather related delays. las vegas could see some delays related to the same thing, some thundershowers today. san francisco could see some low cloud cover in the morning but later on it should clear out. notice i do not have los angeles listed as one of the possible delays. los angeles looking good. out in the midwest the only problem we could see is in the morning at detroit metro, could see fog. clearing out in the afternoon. thundershower activity could be seen in texas, dallas, also houston could see delays. florida the typical thundershower activity you see in the summer time, could see some delays there but look up and down the east coast things are looking good for people who are flying today. tam. >> good to see. thank you matt. the fate of tony stewart is in the hands of the grand jury. the district attorney in ontario county new york said the grand jury will decide if

stewart should be charged with a crime. he struck cold front run ward jr. during a race last night. ward was outside of his car at the time and walking towards stewart's car. ward died from his injuries. stewart says he'll continue to fully cooperate with authorities. >> there are new disturbing claims about what happened during the procedure that ultimately led to joan rivers' death. staffers are telling investigators that the comedian's personal doctor took a selfie in rivers' room at a clinic in manhattan. it happened as the star was under anesthesia awaiting a biopsy. investigators believe rivers' vocal cords began to swell during what investigators are calling an unauthorized procedure cutting off oxygen to her lungs and leading to cardiac arrest. >> it's 4:53 and all new in the next half hour of "action news" one city in the pacific northwest is raising a stink over people who smell bad. >> an award winning actress found her way to sesame street. the message she shared on the importance of diversity is

>> pennsylvania lawmakers are close to voting on a bill that would ban pigeon shooting in the state. the humane society and other animal groups helped get the pigeon shooting ban tacked onto a bill that would also outlaw the selling of cats and dogs for food. former game show host bob barker has taken part in a tv ad campaign supporting the bill. a recent poll found that 85 percent of pennsylvania voters surveyed support a ban on pigeon shooting. pennsylvania is the only state that allows the practice.
