temperatures much it's just 47 degrees, in 40's martin's creek, 48 fleetwood, 53 in pottstown, 50 kennett square, 53 in the city. temperatures running about 5 degrees cooler than they were even yesterday morning so if you thought it was cool yesterday grab that sweater today. 50 in browns mills, 54 in woodbine, 52 degrees right now in dover, delaware. no worries, though, we're going to warm up rather nicely this afternoon with a good amount of sunshine and let's check the forecast for today. mostly sunny skies, a nice high of 75 degrees. we'll be a few degrees below average but not feeling bad. how about that weekend call? we do change things as far as the temperatures. details in that seven day coming up, matt. >> thinking this might be a day to wash the car. >> not a bad idea. no rain right now. >> on my agenda. sounds good. good morning karen rogers. not a lot of cars out and about so far this morning. here in delaware county along i-95, also no overnight construction crews out and about so all lanes opened in both directions if you're leaded to the airport to catch an early morning flight the ride looks good in both directions along 95.

schuylkill is also sitting in the clear at the moment with speeds right around 50 miles per hour there eastbound by girard avenue. of course we have some overnight construction on the boulevard, the paving work both ways in the inner drive through the great northeast and we're watching the water main break right by washington square. the action cam is on the scene this morning. this is on the west side of washington square right by tlula's garden. is stick for fifth or ninth for your northbound travels there this morning. let's come back to the maps. had a truck fire overnight on the new jersey turnpike southbound side near exit six for the pennsylvania turnpike connector. still cleaning up so the right lane remains blocked and in salem watch out for a sinkhole blocking route 45 both ways just north of route 49 broadway. maybe stick with fifth street very local to get around that problem on this wednesday morning. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. developing this morning philadelphia police say social media has played a part in provide something new leads in

a vicious hate crime in center city. more than a dozen people are wandered for brutally attacking to gay men. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at central detectives and she's got more details. good morning, katherineism good morning, tam. police released surveillance video. the tips have been coming in and social media really has helped in this case. "action news" has learned that the attorneys for some of the people in that group have been coordinating with central detectives for their clients to come in for questioning. >> in america you get to be who you are. >> reporter: and yet karen says her friends were victims of a hate crime last week in center city. one of the men needed surgery for severe facial injuries and his jaw was wired shut. this surveillance video from last thursday night was taken minutes before the attack. around 10:45 detectives say around 15 people encountered two gay men ages 27 and 28 at 16th and chance lore streets near walnut. one man asked if the men were boyfriends then came the homophobic slurs. the some end were attacked

beaten and robbed of a cell phone and wallet and now police are crediting this video and the subsequent social media sleuthing by twitter users like fan since 09 for helping push this investigation forward. >> had people on twitter who recognized something was absolutely wrong and disgusting and did something about it. >> reporter: fan since 09 explains he was disgusted by the attack and many of his followers too as they joined in on the effort. he tweeted the video to thousands of followers and soon retweeted a picture apparently taken of this group at a nearby restaurant. he looked on facebook to see who had checked into the restaurant and soon started clicking links and matching pictures to video. he got a twitter shout oout from police for his work. >> the community came together and everybody just kind of worked to shoot this down and say kind of not in our city. >> reporter: and there are rewards being offered in this case, a thousand dollars from the citizens crime commission. there's also a restaurant in center city, at 12th and

sansom called pennsylvania six. they heard about the attack and they wanted to do something to help and they put up $10,000 to help find those responsible. we're live at central detectives, katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> thank you katherine. a school district in the poconos canceled classes today for safety reasons while state police look for a suspected cop killer. police are conducting a massive man hunter for eric frein. they accuse him of beeping the one who used an assault rifle to ambush corporal bryon dixon in emergency rooming grove pike county. police are searching the poconos specifically around monroe county where frein lives with his parents. robert lives a few houses away from the frein home. he is stunned that frein is now a murder suspect. >> kind of shocked, you know. you wouldn't expect that from people, you know, i mean him and his father and mother would walk around the street once in awhile and looked like a clean cut kid.

>> investigators say frein has described himself as a survivalist and claim he has made statements about wandering to kill police officers and carry out mass murder. >> it is 5:06 and a teenager suspected of setting off an explosive inside a chinese restaurant is now in philadelphia police custody. the blast at oriental kitchen at 18th street and ridge last month caused significant damage but no one was hurt a14-year-old boy turned himself in to detectives yesterday. he's charged with arson aggravated assault and risking a catastrophe. a man resembling this sketch assaulted a woman in the parking lot of an apartment complex. it happened sunday at the chester hollow apartments in east goshen township. a 22-year-old woman says a man groped her as she got out of her car and then pushed her against the car. he ran away. investigators think that the man may live in the area and if you know who he is, please call police. >> children's hospital of philadelphia says it has treated four patients who were infected with the virus that

has been spreading across much of the country. the four children have been treated and released. they contracted enterovirus d say. a virus that has made news for spreading across the midwest. doctors feared it would spread to our area and it has. the cdc has confirmed 130 cases in several states. dr. susan coffin at children's hospital says we have seen the enterovirus before in our area. >> it's a virus that circulates -- has circulated we know at least several times in the past. >> so, we've seen it before? >> yes, we have. >> dr. coffin addd that so far the number of children being treated for viruses is not higher than what the hospital usually sees this time of year. so, words of caution, not to get too overboard as to how much you fear this virus from children's hospital. >> of course when kids are involved it's a good idea to

on the cool side just 61 degrees. 11:00 a.m. up to 67. by 2:00 p.m., 74 and by 5:00 p.m., 74 coming down from your high of 75 so bright and sunny through the afternoon but temperatures remaining a couple degrees below average and certainly as you head to the northwest region you'll just be in the low 70's as you look at our highs today, 73 in allentown, 74 in reading, 75 in the city and along the coastline in the low 70's as well, so a cool start to the day but this high pressure overhead really providing a nice day ahead. mostly sunny skies and gorgeous and as we look to tomorrow, very little change. a little front swings through, maybe a couple more clouds than we saw today but still very comfortable tomorrow and a high of seventy six degrees. let's check out the forecast for you and continuing to follow tropical storm odile, we'll see flooding rains out in the desert southwest even though the storm itself is weakening so something we'll be continuing to track with some areas getting as much as half a year's worth of lane in a really short amount of time.

six for the turnpike connector. they're saying the right lane could be blocked for a little while so headed southbound on the turnpike through burlington county this morning you can expect delays. in salem county, a sinkhole opened up overnight along 45. that's blocked both ways just north of 49 broadway. locally stick with fifth street to get around that and in egg harbor township atlantic county ridge avenue closing again today and each day this week from 9:00 until 4:00 between main avenue and jersey avenue. tremont avenue or spruce avenue work instead. time for the commuter report brought to you by the waze app. as we take a look at the suburbs in delaware things are looking good so far this morning on kirkwood highway, 95, highway 1, 13, a couple of overnight work zones but overall the lanes are open and ready for your wednesday morning ride. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. typhoon continues to lash south asia with strong winds and some heavy rain. it struck china's southern most island yesterday. about 90,000 people were evacuated and dozens of flights had to be canceled.

the storm is weakening though as it moves through vietnam. its also being blamed for two deaths in the philippines. several thousand firs in the western states are now battling 15 wildfires that are burning out of control. fierce winds have fueled a fire that raced through the small northern california town of weeds burning a church to the grounds and damaging or destroying 100 homes. 1500 people have been evacuated in the area and fire also knocked out power to the town. for awhile officials of officials had to close interstate five. that's the main highway between california and oregon. one washington state town is trying to crack down on body odor. the town passed an ordinance banning certain behavior in public places. visitors to their city park city hall and even the library are for now prohibited from using obscene language, not wearing enough clothing and from having poor hygiene. city officials say the measure is necessary to protect the public from foul smells. >> the phillies play a late one in san diego tonight, a at

least for us. the game starts at 10:10 p.m. philadelphia time. the phillies dropped their second straight to the padres. padres answered to get the five to four win. a.j. burnett took the loss, his 17th of the season which leads the major leagues. philadelphia union faced its biggest match in franchise history. it was against the seattle sounders for the u.s. open cup championship. the two teams played to a one to one tie in regulation but seattle scored twice in overtime taking the three to one victory. the open cup goes to seattle for the fourth time. >> 5:17 now. one company is planning for a big holiday season by hiring nearly a hundred thousand seasonal employees. >> lard to stomach. the cdc releases new numbers on

wilmington and d.c. those trains are running this morning and for the most part we are on time. karen. >> 56 degrees right now in philadelphia. it's certainly on the cool side. in fact, it's about 6 degrees cooler this morning than it was yesterday morning in philadelphia and 11 degrees cool interwilmington, 15 degrees cooler in mount pocono, so we certainly have a cool start but it's going to be bright and beautiful at least, so that's some good news. by 8:00 a.m., 61 degrees. by 11:00 a.m., we're about 67, so staying below average. by 2:00 p.m. 74 but with that bright sunshine it's going to feel good and by 5:00 p.m. 74 coming down from your high of 75 today. temperatures a little below average but a pretty day and a dry day, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. going on to health check now a new study says both men and women are increasingly dealing with big bellied shapes. during the 12 year period that was studied the average waste size in the u.s. expands to do 38-inches for women, that a you a gain of 2-inches and it grew to 40-inches foramena 1 inch increase.
