one step closer to securing millions of dollars in desperately needed cash. millions of dollars in scheduled in harrisburg today. >> good morning, 5:30 on this wednesday, september 17th. dave murphy is off. we've got karen rogers looking at that accuweather and matt pelman has traffic. >> on the cool side but it's going to be nice and brievment satellite 6 and action radar showing just a couple clouds out there for the most part. we're going to see lots of sunshine through the day but check out these temperatures. currently 56 degrees in philadelphia. but it's in the 40's in allentown, 47 in mount pocono, 40 degrees and low 50's in reading and lancaster. 51 degrees in millville. you're in the upper 50's along the coastline. 59 degrees on the boardwalk and sea isle city. this afternoon lots of sunshine as you're heading out early on, though, it is going to be on the cool side. by 6:00 a.m., 56. by 8:00 a.m., about 61 degrees. now, you compare that to this afternoon high of 75 and it's a really nice day, nice and sunny, temperatures this afternoon just a few degrees below average matt but we

change things in that seven day so details coming up. >> okey-dokey, sounds good. thanks karen rogers. little bit drier than yesterday morning which we're appreciating. things look good weather-wise as you head out for your morning ride and the traffic is moving well here along the roosevelt boulevard, route 1. headlights coming northbound approaching broad street with no issues. of course farther north in the northeast we do have the paving work going on in the inyour drive and we're just getting word of a crash on the southbound roosevelt boulevard at grant avenue. you want to watch out for that. also getting word of one in the mayfair section of the city along rowland avenue at sheffield street right by abraham lincoln high school. a one vehicle wreck that took down a pole so there's also a local power outage. instead of rowland maybe stick with frankford avenue as an alternate. on the big picture so far so good on the schuylkill and 95. but right by washington square the action camry mains on the scene of the overnight water main break. seventh completely blocked off on the west side of the square right by the garden.

for your northbound travels this morning maybe stick with fifth or ninth instead of seventh. we'll keep watching that. also in burlington county, had a truck fire overnight on the southbound new jersey turnpike near exit six for the turnpike connector. right lane still blocked there and matt we're hearing it could be blocked for awhile so delays are definitely possible. >> keep us posted. i know you will. thank you matt. developing right now police are crediting twitter users with helping them crackdown a new key clue in a hate crime investigation. and one of those social media sleuths spoke with "action news" overnight. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at central detectives with details. katherine. >> reporter: that's right, matt, police say social media really has helped in this investigation. two gay men were attacked in center city last week by a group of people and now police are saying that some of the people, some of the attorneys for some of the people in that group have been coordinating with central detectives to come in for questioning. this surveillance video from last thursday night was taken minutes before the center city

attack. around 10:45 p.m. detectives say around 15 people encountered two gay men ages 27 and 28 at 16th and chancellor streets near walnut. one man asked if the men were boyfriends. then came the homophobic slurs. the men were attacked beaten and robbed of a cell phone and wallet. a long time friend of the victims says one of the men needed surgery for severe facial injuries. and his jaw was wired shut. >> the boys are just really happy that there's clear footage and they just keep repeating that they want justice done not just for them but so that it never happens again in philadelphia. >> reporter: and now police are crediting this video and the subsequent social media sleuthing by twitter users like fansy fan since 09 for helping push this investigation forward. >> i just kind of feel like it was the decent thing to do and i would hope that if i didn't do it someone else would do it. >> reporter: fan since 09 explains he was disgusted by the attack and apparently many of his followers were too as he joined in on the effort.

he tweeted the video to thousands of followers and soon retweet antidepressant picture taken of this group at a nearby restaurant. he looked on facebook to see who had checked into the restaurant and soon started clicking on links and matching pictures to the video. he got a twitter shout out from police for his work. >> you had a stream of people on twitter who recognized something was absolutely wrong and disgusting and did something about it. >> reporter: and police say even if you were in the area at the time of the attack but didn't have anything to do with it, police still want to hear from you. call central detectives with tips. we're live at central detectives, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thank you. new this morning a drive by shooting in north philadelphia left a man in critical but stable condition. police say someone in a silver car fired a shot at the victim who was waiting for the bus. it happened just before midnight along the 2300 block of north 17th street. the bullet struck the victim in the cheek. he was able to run to police for help as the car sped away. >> now to breaking developments in the child

abuse claims against nfl star adrian peterson. just hours ago, the minnesota vikings did a major about face. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is live in our satellite center. she's got the latest details. good morning, erin. good morning, tam. the team's reverse course comes after a day of public pressure from angry fans and concerned sponsors. the vikings have barred peterson from team activities until his child abuse case is solved. now, peterson was indicted last week in texas on a counter of reckless or negligent injury to a child. the charges stem from a whipping incident that reportedly left bruises on his four-year-old son. now, he was also accused of injuring another one of his four year old sons last year but there were never any charges filed. the stunning reversal comes after several sponsors including anheuser bush criticized the nfl for the scandals involving peterson and ray rice. the move by the vikings have create add firestorm of debate. >> i'm from the south.

two years ago when szychulski taught the child who was 14 at the time at lenape million dollars school. officials say they received a tip last week and sus sended her the next day. >> a full house vote on philadelphia's cigarette tax could come as early as today. a pennsylvania house committee unanimously approved the two dollars a pack fee. the tax is expected to put $80 million back into the city's cash strapped school system. governor tom corbett has committed to signing this legislation. >> chilly 58 degrees on city avenue. >> yeah, right. >> relatively chilly. >> just in the 40's in some of the suburbs so it is cool out there, i'll go with that. let's take a look at storm tracker 6 live double scan radar and you can see we're dry right now, no problems. we will be having a little bit of drizzle over the next coming days. i'll explain that in a minute. let's take a look outside and show you what's going on. we're looking live on sky 6 at philadelphia international airport. we've been watching for a touch of fog here or there and not seeing any problems at

philadelphia international airport. i think the best chance for that would be up in the lehigh valley so far this morning. let's look at the temperatures right now 'cause it is on the cool side. just 47 degrees this morning in allentown. 52 in reading, 51 in lancaster, 56 in the city, 53 degrees in millville, new jersey. how about trenton? just in the 40's. 49. 59 on the boardwalk in ac. and we're pulling in our always on seven day as well to give you an idea of what's coming ahead. you'll see some better numbers in a second with that, too. let's look at your forecast for allentown today. lots of sunshine. we are watching for the chance for a little bit of early fog. i've been keeping an eye on it. not seeing any real issues out there but the lehigh valley would be the best place that you might see that. 73 degrees right now for your high today in allentown and if you're down the shore, we have a moderate risk of rip currents. 67 degrees by noon. 72 at 3:00 p.m. sunny skies and a nice afternoon ahead so even though we have a cool start, we are

going to trade off with bright sunshine throughout the day today so lots of sunshine, a bit cool, today's high 75. normally we would be about 78 so a few degrees below average. winds out of the northwest and it's a light wind of about four to 8 miles an hour. here's how the day is going to unfold with sunshine wall to wall. it's a real pretty day. by 8:00 a.m. just 61 degrees, by 11:00 a.m., scesm so staying in the 60's for much of the morning today. by 2:00 p.m., 74. and by 5:00 p.m., 74 coming down from your high of 75 degrees. here's a look at what you can expect tomorrow. a few clouds, very comfortable, high pressure stays in control so that keeps us with the dry conditions. we will see a couple more clouds when the frontal boundary just kind of flips through and tomorrow's high about the same as today, 76 degrees. here's a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. it's sunny and it's nice today, 75 degrees. just a bit cool. tomorrow still nice, maybe a few more clouds mixing in with the sunshine but we're dry a high of 76. friday cooler. look at the high, only 70 and a lot of the suburbs will be

>> ♪ >> welcome back. if you like a late night ramble one of the prettiest if you like a late night around washington square but here at seventh and locust at about 1:30 this morning they had a water main break and you can see how much water has flooded that roadway. we've seen people try to make their way across it. it's quite a bit of water but hoping they get that cleared up soon. >> while i figure out what a late night ramble is. >> a late night walk. >> we'll go to matt pelman.

>> a late night walk. enjoying the cool evening, matt pelman. >> if you're not going to go for a ramble this morning, if you're going to drive the car instead, i have a few things for you to watch out for on your ride into work here on the roosevelt boulevard southbound side at grant avenue, have what sounds like a pretty bad two-vehicle crash in the outer drive. chopper 6 speeding its way to the scene to check out what's going on. so, we should have pictures for you before too long and in the mayfair section of the city, right by abraham lincoln high school, there was a crash that took down a pole and it is causing a local power outage along rowland avenue at sheffield street. instead of rowland this morning i think i would use frankford avenue, 13 as an alternate. all right, let's get suburban on this hump day wednesday morning with the suburban traffic report and we'll check out i-95 in bucks county. this is the scene by east lincoln highway. southbound come the headlights. we will have midday work today from 9:00 until 3:00 a-roving crew will be out and about causing you some delays us a travel south side between the scudder falls bridge and woodhaven road. so, watch out for them.

then but right now things are looking good there along 95 in bucks county. meanwhile also expect some midday milling and paving in upper moreland montgomery county. they'll close davisville road near terwood. stick with 263 york road or 232 huntington pike as alternates. salem county still patching that sinkhole from the overnight and blocking 45 just north of 49 in the process. fifth street a possible alternate around that. time for the commuter report where things look good for the most part on the northeast extension. have a couple northbound work zones remaining but none of our friends using the waze app are complaining, at least not yet. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. new this morning, the fbi has arrested a man in upstate new york for aiding isis terror group. mufid elfgeeh bought guns silenter and ammo from an informant. the weapons were part of a planned attack on both u.s. soldiers and muslim. he will gee was born in yemen but is an american citizen.

a top military leader opened the door for the use of ground troops to combat isis. dempsey said military advisors will help iraqs with plansying and logistics but that may not be enough. >> if there are threats to the united states i would go back to the president and make a recommendation there may include the use of u.s. military ground forces. >> president obama has maintained that ground forces will not have a combat mission in iraq. a house vote on the administration's proposals could come later today. >> there are new disturbing claims about what happened during the procedure that ultimately led to joan rivers' death. staffers are telling investigators that the comedian's personal doctor took a selfie in rivers' room at a clinic in manhattan. it happened as the star was under anesthesia awaiting a biopsy. investigators believe rivers' vocal cords began to swell during what investigators call an unauthorized procedure cutting off oxygen to her lungs and leading to cardiac

arrest. a family run diner in south jersey turns 50 this month. to celebrate the landmark birthday the owners are throwing a big barb and using it to raise money for a 'cause they hold dear. karen rogers has the story. >> reporter: ponzio's diner in cherry hill new jersey opened its doors in 1964. >> i used to come here when i was a kid. >> reporter: they are second generation owners. their father jim ran the place until he died in 2007 from lung cancer. >> one of the last thing he asked us to do he wanted us to raise money for lung cancer. >> reporter: the brothers parter in other words with cooper university hospital and founded the jim fifis lung cancer research fund. next tuesday is their fourth annual fundraising dinner. this is going to be a good time with good food. >> it's off the charts. we take it to the next level. 100 percent of ticket sales will go to lung cancer research. >> it's great fun. the food is amazing, celebrating the 50th anniversary. it's just extra special. >> reporter: all right, let's get to it. ponzio's also makes five dollars cooper cookies and cup

i'm john kane >> just about 5:51. we have some breaking news. it's from the traffic department here in northeast philadelphia near the boulevard let's go to matt pelman for what is going on. matt. >> yeah, matt, chopper 6 has made its way to the scene of the crash. three injuries we're hearing, it's a t-bone accident right here along grant avenue by the southbound roosevelt boulevard. we're hearing the outer drive of the boulevard also restricted. of the boulevard also by sheraton would be on the northbound side of the boulevard. grant avenue blocked as you can see. maybe stick with welsh road. police remain on the scene here attending to the victims. have some other emergency crews, too. so, good spot to avoid. let's head outside now to the schuylkill expressway. no delays so far this morning here in south philadelphia. hey, tonight they're going to be blocking off 26th street right by the schuylkill for some overnight construction starting at 9 o'clock. going to detour you to passyunk avenue instead but right now everything looks good, karen. >> we've been watching for a touch of fog i've mentioned up

in the lehigh valley a second ago in reading it said 2.5-mile visibility. it jumped back up to 10 but i wouldn't be surprised if that dipped down once again so just watch for that. 4-mile visibility in the poconos. the big story of the morning is the cool air out there. 47 degrees in allentown, 56 in philadelphia, 51 in millville. if you thought yesterday morning was cool, it's about 6 degrees cooler right now in philadelphia. 11 degrees cooler in wilmington. so, you get the idea that cooler air settling in. however, a nice bright afternoon, lots of sunshine. today sunny and nice, a high just of 75 degrees this afternoon. tomorrow still nice, 76 but a few more clouds. friday look at this, 70 for your high and that means a lot of the suburbs won't make it out of the 60's. saturday we start with clouds and some drizzle. but it's going to be okay. the afternoon brightens up a bit, 78 degrees and we're warmer on sunday, 83, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. new here on "action news" officials in san diego say a lightning strike sets this palm tree on fire. it was part of a powerful storm cell that also unleashed

winds that blew other trees down. california is under a flash flood watch through the end of the week as the remnants of hurricane odile move to the north. track star lolo jones will to lace upper sneakers to go. she's the first to get the boot from "dancing with the stars." the track star landed in the bottom two along with fashion designer betsy johnson. when jones heard her fate she smiled and hugged her partner. the olympian admitted her opening suffered from a missed cue. >> how social media helped police into the investigation on an attack on two gay men. >> find out why this lawmaker was tossed into the garbage overseas. that's all new at

>> septa police are searching for two men who laughed as a man passes out and then they rob him. this is surveillance video from sunday along the broad street subway line at the erie station. one of the suspects picks the victim's pockets new jerseying up his cell phone. anyone who recognizes these men in the video should call septa police. >> police in ohio are investigating a horrible accident that killed a school bus driver during a safety drill. 51-year-old laura zborowski of akron was helping students learn to use the emergency exit when the bus started rolling in reverse. >> it's going down the hill here. so, she the 10 year old pan in

this case, she jumps off the bus. the bus driver grabs her and throws her up on the tree lawn. >> zborowski saved the little girl but it was too late for her to get out of the way. the bus ran over the 51-year-old and crashed into a tree. police are calling zborowski a hero. pennsylvania lawmakers close to voting on a bill that would ban pigeon shooting in the state. the humane society and other animal rights groups helped get the pigeon shooting ban tacked onto a bill that would outlaw the selling of cats and dogs for food. former game show host bob barker has taken part in tv ad campaign supporting the bill. a recent poll found that 85 percent of pennsylvania voters surveyed support a ban on pigeon shooting. pennsylvania is the only state that allows the practice. the national rifle association on that possess the bill. frappuccino. >> neighbors of the suspect in the killing of a pennsylvania state police corporal share brands new react
