afternoon but a cool start to the day. take a look at these temperatures in the area. we've dipped to the 40's, even cooler than yesterday morning in some spots. levittown 49, 46 in quakertown. we're at 52 in pottstown but 49 in kennett square, 48 in oxford. as you look at some of the suburbs in new jersey, line in browns mills and toms river, just 50 in bridgeton and 51 degrees in dover delaware so you may wants to grab that sweater as you're headed out. satellite 6 and action radar showing just a few clouds out there. we're going to see mostly sunny skies through much of the day today. it's a good looking day. wall to wall sunshine. by 9:00 a.m. still in the 60's, though. 62 by noon, 71 by 3:00 p.m. 75, that's our high for today and by 6:00 p.m., 74, sunshine and a cloud or two coming through the area as you come down from that high of 75. so, a gorgeous afternoon despite temperatures being a little bit below average. and then what happens the next couple days? kind of going on a rollercoaster ride a little bit. details coming "philly what's

up" a minute matt. >> karen you're giving us good weather this morning but nonetheless we have a plethora of problems on the traffic front including this one. chopper 6 hd just arrived over the scene in mayfair of this crash that we've been talking about. happened just after 5 o'clock this morning at rowland avenue and sheffield street in the mayfair section. a driver lost control of his vehicle crashed into a utility pole. wires came down. so peco is on the scene and the power is out on the block. you can see it does look quite dark in the area there. this is all unfolding near abraham lincoln high school. instead of rowland avenue this morning, might want to stick with frankford avenue, route 13 as a possible alternate. coming out here to the maps, not so far away we still have that crash right along grant avenue at the roosevelt boulevard southbound. three people were injured. it was a t-bone accident. they do still have part of the outer drive southbound blocked off as police remain on the scene of that accident. now, the good news is on the schuylkill and 95 we've got some building volume but overall things don't look bad so far. however, right by washington

square, there was al water main break overnight and the action cam remains on the scene life. this is seventh street right by locust. this is the west side of washington square. pedestrians are making their way through the water, the street is blocked off. so, for your northbound travels this morning, stick with fifth or ninth because seventh does remain closed. good morning. hello. here in center city. let's go outside at 202 in devon, we had a traffic stop here on the northbound side by valley road. that's out of the way now. however, they're still cleaning up a truck fire in burlington county, southbound new jersey turnpike by exit six, they have the right lane blocked and sounds like it's going to stay blocked for a little while. tam. >> okay, thank thank you, matt. philadelphia police say social media has played a part in providing new leads in a vicious hate crime in center city. more than a dozen people are wandered for brutally attacking two gay men. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at central detectives with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning.

police released surveillance video. the tips have been coming in and as you said social media has really helped play a role in this investigation. "action news" has learned that some of the attorneys for some of the people in that group that attacked the two gay men have been coordinating with central detectives for a time for their clients to come in for questioning. >> in america you get to be who you are. >> reporter: and yet karen says her friends were victims of a hate crime last week in center city. one of the men needed surgery for severe facial injuries and his jaw was wired shut. the surveillance video from last thursday night was taken minutes before the attack. around 10:45 p.m. detectives say around 15 people encountered two gay men ages 27 and 28 at 16th and chancellor streets near walnut. one man asked if the men were boyfriends. then came the homophobic slurs. the men were attacked, beaten and robbed of a cell phone an wallet. now police are crediting this video and the subsequent social media sleuthing by twitter users like fan since

09 for helping push this investigation forward. >> had people on twitter who recognized something was absolutely wrong and disgusting and did something about it. >> reporter: fan since 09 explains he was disgusted by the attack and apparently many of his followers were, too, as they joined in on the effort. he tweeted the video to thousands of followers and soon retweeted a picture apparently taken of this group at a nearby restaurant. he looked on facebook to see who had checked into the restaurant and soon started clicking links and matching pictures to video. he got a twitter shout out from police for his work. >> community kind of came together and everybody just kind of worked to shoot this down and say kind of not in our city. >> reporter: and there are several rewards being offered in this case, a thousand dollars from the citizens crime commission, also a restaurant at 12th and samson called pennsylvania six heard about this attack, they wanted to do something to help then offered $10,000 for information leading to an

arrest and conviction in this case. live at central detectives, katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> thanks katherine. a school district in the poconos has canceled classes today for safety reasons while state police look for a suspected cop killer. police are conducting a massive man hunter for 31-year-old eric frein. they accuse him of beeping the one who used an assault rifle to ambush corporal bryon dixon outside the state police barracks in blooming grove pike county. police are searching the poconos specifically around monroe county where frein lives with his parents robert sbara lives a few houses away from the frein home and he's stunned that frein is a murder suspect. >> kind of shocked. you wouldn't expect that from people, you know, i mean him and his father and mother would walk around the street once in awhile and he looked like a clean cut kid. >> investigators say frein has described himself as a survivalist and claim he has made statements about wandering to kill police officers and carry out mass murder. >> it's now 6:06 and the teen

suspected in setting off an explosive inside a chinese restaurant is now in philadelphia police custody. the blast at oriental kitchen at 18th and ridge caused significant damage but no one was hurt a14-year-old boy turned himself in to detectives yesterday. he's now charged with arson aggravated assault and risking a catastrophe. >> children's hospital of philadelphia says it treated four patients infected with the respiratory virus that has been spreading across much of the country. the four children have been treated and released. they contracted the enterovirus d68 which made news for quickly spreading across the midwest. doctors predicted it would spread across our area and it has. at 6:30 erin o'hearn will have important tips for parents on how to spot the warning signs in children and what you can do to get treatment. >> good news now on the fate of americans who find it a struggle to get by financially day to day. maribel aber live at the nasdaq in times square. she's got more. good morning, maribel. >> reporter: good morning to you tam.

the u.s. poverty rate has fallen for the first time since 2006. the rate was 14.5 percent last year. that's down from 15 percent a year earlier. the drop comes as more people find full-time work. but more than 45 million americans remain stuck in poverty according to the census bureau. ups plans to hire as many as 95,000 seasonal workers so that's up from 85,000 workers it hired last year to handle the holiday rush. ups is expecting a surge in package deliveries from online shoppers. last year e commerce deliveries made up 60 percent of ups' business during the holiday let's talk stocks. stocks rallied as investors bet that the federal reserve will stay to its compliment to keeping interest rates low. right now futures pointing to a mixed open. the fed expected to issue a statement on the economy later today. starbucks testing a mini frappuccino. it's lower in price and calories than the usual 12-ounce frappuccino. starbucks hopes the drink will appeal to calorie conscious customers.

here's your day planner. wall to wall sunshine but on the cool side. we're staying in the 60's through the morning so by 8:00 a.m., 61 degrees, by 11:00 a.m., 67 despite the sunshine. we finally warm up into the 70's in the afternoon. by 2:00 p.m. 74 degrees. we'll hit a high of 75 and then we'll be coming down from that at 5:00 p.m., about 74 degrees with sunshine and maybe just a cloud or two around. looking at the high temperatures across the region, mid 70's in philadelphia along the i-95 corridor but in the lehigh valley just below 70, 73 degrees in allentown, even in trenton, 73. 72 in millville and 70 in cape may. so, temperatures staying a few degrees below average today. not significantly but you'll feel it despite the sunshine though because it will feel good. today mostly sunny skies for just with a high of 75 with that high pressure right overhead. we don't have to worry about that rain that's off the coastline and then we continue to see high pressure tomorrow. we will have a front slip through so maybe a couple more clouds tomorrow but overall a good looking day and a high of 76 so keeping us dry and

pretty sunny trend in our part of the region here in the northeast but we continue to watch tropical storm odile and looking at the flooding rainfall that's expected and not just for northwestern mexico but southwestern texas continuing with the flash flooding in the desert southwest so a significant amount of rain while we stay dry here. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, sunny and nice, 75 for your high. still nice tomorrow, a few more clouds and 76. friday is the change. we go from the mid 70's to 70 for your high and that means a lot of the suburbs will just be staying in the 60's so cooler with some sunshine. saturday we start off with clouds and a little bit of drizzle at times, too, with an easterly flow. then we see the sunshine and a dry afternoon, seventy eight so you're fine for the union game. on sunday warmer partly sunny skies, 83. last full day of summer is going the feel like summer so that will be tough for the players out there for the eagles. monday clouds and showers, 77 degrees for your high, maybe even a thunderstorm late in the day. tuesday mostly sunny skies. we're dry again and 74.

remain live over. this is rowland avenue right at sheffield street and the vehicle took down a pole and some wires. that caused a local power outage thus the reason it's kind of dark out here but peco crews remain on the scene as you can see. instead of rowland avenue this morning here close to abraham lincoln high school stay over on frankford avenue, 13, as an alternate. not so far off we also have that crash along grant avenue right by the southbound roosevelt boulevard. that's where the four points by sheraton is on the northbound side. restrictions on the southbound boulevard in the outer drive as well as along grant avenue. i think i would stick with welsh as an alternate to grant this morning as they continue the cleanup there. on the big picture, we are starting to slow, of course, on 95 southbound by cottman, 33 miles per hour. then from allegheny to girard you're moving in the 20's and of course still have that water main break on washington square blocking off seventh street right by locust. that's northbound so stick with fifth or ninth as

alternates. out to chester county this is the scene along route 100, northbound direction right by the entrance for the 30 bypass pretty nasty accident here. police remain on the scene as you can see so coming north on 100 away from boot road expect delays. elsewhere in chester county tredyffrin township a new construction project starts today lasting through october 1st during the mid days they're going to block old eagle school road between 30 and upper gulph road. maybe stick with wayne avenue as an alternate and of course in upper merion north gulph road remains restricted because of the project that began on monday. one more issue in salem county, it's a sinkhole blocking 45 this morning both ways north of 49 broadway. fifth street a good local alternate. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. take a look at this new video here at 6:00 a.m. they really couldn't agree. ukrainian acts 50 tossed a lawmaker into the trash outside of the parliament building. he had been an advisor to ukraine's out of thed former president who some feel was

very pro-russian. activists threw him into the trash saying he authorized a defamation law that restricted the freedom of journalists. prosecutors say a prisoner in the lehigh valley helped to crack a cold case murder. the inmate was one of many people who testified before a grand jury against beth marstler. the woman told police she admitted to killing george humboldt. the murder happened in 2011 and prosecutors form plan to charge her today. >> dan kloeffler has more on the changes in tech bites. in today's tech bites apple's mobile users get a free update today. the couple says ios8 is its biggest software update ever with many new features and functions but there are improvements to many of the older ones says the wall street's journal joanna stern. >> while you might not see it in the design of the software it looks very similar to ios

remain on the scene of the crash. luckily it's off to the side in the work zone but people are still slowing down to see what's going on. then you jam again farther south from the betsy ross bridge into girard so already quite slow on 95 southbound. and we continue to watch a crash in the great northeast along grant avenue right at the roosevelt boulevard southbound. instead of grant i think i would stick with welsh this morning and if you're coming south on the boulevard, the outer drive is restricted so stay on the inner drive instead. and in mayfair, chopper 6 remains over the scene of the accident at rowland avenue and sheffield street. the accident took down that pole that you see there 'causing a local power outage. peco still on the scene. instead of rowland avenue this morning, i want to stick with frankford avenue 'cause everything is still blocked off here near abraham lincoln high school. meanwhile, right by washington square the action cam is still on the scene of the water main break here from the overnight hours blocking off seventh street right by locust. they've turned off the water buck you you can see the road is still wet and the road is

still blocked. seventh shut down to your your morning commute. stick with fifth or ninth as alternates. coming back to the maps, still have the truck fire from the overnight hours in burlington county on the southbound new jersey turnpike near exit six. right lane blocked, could be blocked for awhile. in salem county a sinkhole developed overnight blocking 45 in both directions just north of 49 broadway. so, fifth street very locally could be an alternate around that mess. meanwhile here in camden county, this is the 42 freeway with building northbound traffic headed up towards 295 and on 295 itself headed northbound just north of 42, there is a new traffic pattern that we're getting used to on this wednesday morning. matt. >> thanks, matt. developing now, police are crediting twitter users with helping them track down a new key clue in a hate crime investigation and one of those social media sleuths spoke with "action news" overnight. philadelphia left a plan in critical but stable condition. police say someone in a silver car fired a shot at the victim who was waiting for the bus. it happened just before midnight along the 2300 block of north 17th street. the bullet hit the victim in the creek. he was able to run to police for help as the car sped away. >> 6:36 now and breaking overnight the minnesota vikings have done an about face. instead of allowing adrian peterson to play on sunday, it has suspended him from all team activities. the vikings made the announcement just hours ago. peterson was indicted in texas last week on a felony counter of reckless or negligent injury to a child. the charge stems from a whipping incident that reportedly left bruises and wounds on peterson's four-year-old son. the vikings reinstated peterson to the squad on monday but withered. the suspension is indefinite. >> there are 130 confirmed cases of enterovirus in

several states and now those numbers in states include pennsylvania. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is live at the big board with what parents need to know. it's very frightening to parents, erin. >> it sure is tam. the children's hospital of philadelphia has confirmed that four children have tested positive for the virus. it is the most commonly found in infants children and teenagers this time of year. now, this is not a new virus but it has garnered significant attention because of the surge of patients in the midwest. now although the virus has arrived here in philadelphia, doctors say the viral respiratory activity this year really parallels past seasons. this particular virus can be tricky because at first it mimics the common cold. children can can exhibit symptoms such as a fever, runny nose, sneezing, cough and body aches. however, those symptoms can quickly escalate into severe respiratory complications, especially in children with a history of respiratory illness or asthma. so, it is important to have an asthma action plan in place but regardless of your child's

medical history, it is important to seek medical attention right away if you hear your child wheezing or he or she appears to have difficulty breathing. some area schools have sent out alerts to parents. >> my kids haven't had real much issue with asthma, that doesn't necessarily mean they're exempt. >> a lot of it comes down to hygiene. make sure people wash their hands and clean their hands and if they do have colts don't sort of spread them around. >> now again this is a virus so unfortunately the only treatment is supportive care and of course prevention is your biggest weapon. it is important to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoid sharing food and utensils if you know a person is sick and of course disinfect surfaces and toys frequently. tam, back to you. >> okay, thank you, erin. a full house vote on philadelphia's cigarette tax could come as early as today. a pennsylvania house committee unanimously approved the two dollars a pack fee. the tax is expected to put $80 million back into the
