>> good morning, it is 6:00 a.m. on this saturday, september 20, here's some of the stories we're following on "action news," shots are fired as police close in on the suspect in last week's deadly shooting of a pennsylvania state trooper. we'll have the latest details. two men are hurt after a boating accident on the the delaware river overnight. plus, thrills and chills as local police and fire officials would wowed the crowd with their skills and raised money for

around in the boat one of them managed to call 911. police took them to area hospital torresdale. the boat has a large gash, but no word on what they hit. the embattled commissioner of the nfl roger goodell said he is taking responsibility for his handling of the scandal plaguing the league. local football fans and domestic groups sounded off on his promise to hold players accountable. sharrie williams has more. >> unfortunately over the past several weeks we have seen all too much of the nfl doing wrong. that starts with me. >> reporter: commissioner roger goodell wasted not -- no time in taking blame for the recent spiral of the nfl.

the mounting outrage had critics calling for him to step down. when asked about resigning he said. >> i am not. i understand when people are critical of your performance, we have a lot of work to do. >> i think it's a shame he had to come on and save face today. >> if you're going to condemn one player, you should have the same policy for everyone. >> reporter: the league leader mounted training on preventing abuse for forming new partnerships with grooms against axal abuse and domestic violence.

sexual harassment claim. a student claimed the university dismissed the professor and didn't inform the community. a spokesperson said the matter was handled according to school policy. from our delaware newsroom, police in hockessin are investigating attempted break-ins and asking neighbors to be on the look out. one of the incidents occurred in hockessin green. police responded to a call on people's way in hockessin valley falls. in both cases the suspects were interrupted by the residents. police want residents to remember to lock up and call them if they see anything suspicious. the number of students who claim they had sex with a north jersey high school teacher continues to grow. prosecutors in essex county announced two charges against nicole default. she was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting three

students on school property and in her car. she also being held on half a million dollars for the original three charges. nurses at closure chester has the picket signs ready for tomorrow. that's when 600 will take part in a two-day strike. they are upset over staffing issues that harm patient care and pay cuts and pension funding. a hospital spokesperson said staffing levels rank national averages and the nurses are among the highest paid in the state. crozer plans to replace them with temporary nurses who require five days of work, so a two day strike would be five. both sides say there has been little movement to get back to the negotiating table. first responders will wow the crowd at the 60 annual thrill show.

>> the moon accused of setting a wildfire out in northern california, appeared in court yesterday, wayne alan huntsman pleaded not guilty and being held on $10 million bail. investigator say they found evidence the suspect called the fire into 911. the fire burned 120 square miles and 10% contained. a couple managed to salvage something precious from a wildfire in california. declan mitchell will get married

30 inches it is starting to fall. 60 in wilmington, 60 in dover. a little bit of cloud cover west of the city. east of the city will start to cloud up, as well as a small little system starts to pull to the north. later this afternoon we'll see mixed skies, combination of sun and clouds, as a cold front approaches from the west. here's a look at the front. big storms lining up in des moines and green bay and sault st. marie. we're seeing flooding out there. this will push east, it will lose some of its punch, we'll see showers sunday evening, but the main focus will be today. morning clouds, sunshine later today.

>> reporter: welcome back everyone, 62:58 saturday morning we're looking at satellite and radar. it should be a nice weekend around the delaware valley. we have high pressure sliding off the new england coast. winds will shift out of the southeast today. it will keep the shore communities cooler than inland locations. as the high pushes east, the winds will shift out of the southwest. everybody warms up as we get into sunday. sunday will be the warmer days we've seen in quite sometime. as we look farther to the west, we have a cold front that's approaching. it's bearing down on great lake states green bay and sault st. marie. numerous cloud to ground lightning strikes. that frontal system is charging east. it should arrive sunday night.

delaware valley. it's very gentle and very still. that's the view in penns landing. we have clouds moving in overhead that's keeping temperatures milder than yesterday at this time. 59 degrees in philadelphia. 06 south and east. many places are closing in on 70. boardwalk, atlantic city and sea isle, 68. reading 58. allentown, 59. satellite and radar shows high, thin clouds rolling in west of the city. for the most part south jersey is clear, if we look farther to the south, look at this starting to gather. this will push to the north, it's an area of low pressure that's developing. it will ride the coast fortunately far enough out to sea, but it will provide south jersey with cloud cover later on this afternoon. we'll go mix of sun and clouds, 79 degrees does forecasted high, with a slight increase in humidity. it's been vr comfortable over the last couple of days.

tomorrow we're up to 84 degrees and with that comes a spike in humidity levels. i'll talk about that in the seven day in just a little bit. >> a woman and her teenage son are hospitalized in critical condition after both were stabbed in the neck. it happened on crork -- yorkship road in camden. someone slashed the throats of the woman and her son. they were rushed to cooper in critical condition. two others were taken to the hospital for valuation, but they were not hurt. a man is in custody. police confirmed that shots were fired in the area last night where they have been searching for the accused cop killer eric frein. the gunfire broke out near the family home of the suspect in

road. the man is in cooper university hospital with a number of serious injuries. the driver stopped at the scene. no word on charges. also new, police are trying to determine if robbery was the motive behind the double shooting in west oak lane section of philadelphia. the action cam was at the 7100 block of north 19th street. that's where police say they found a wounded man lying in the street around 10:50. around the corner, officers found a second victim with the gunshot wound to the forearm. the first man is in critical condition. no word on the condition of the second man. there have been no arrests. police are looking for whoever shot a postal worker with a bb gun, police think she was being targeted when she was shot twice in the back. dann cuellar has the details. >> reporter: the 28-year-old postal worker left the hospital of the university of pennsylvania after being treated.

she was lymphing after being shot in the knee and -- limping a bit after being shot in the knee and the back. the postal worker was delivering mail of the 6200 block of christian. >> she walked up door to door when she felt a strike to her back, she turned and that's when she feels the second one. >> reporter: police say the shot to her back struck the strap of her leather mail bag which prevented the bb from striking her skin. a neighbor says three other shots hit the side of her row home. no mail was taken. >> it could be kids playing around. >> reporter: this evening another postal worker delivered the mail on the block under the watchful eye of an armed postal officer. bb guns have been a concerned in south and southwest

philadelphia. council said this incident shows it has no borders. even more disturbing some merchants are exploiting neighborhoods by selling them to kids under the able of 18. they worried that a kid could pull this on a cop or someone with a real gun and end up getting shot. >> it shows separate from protecting the children is protecting the people. it's a matter of public safety. >> reporter: council johnson introduced legislation calling for harsher penalties for stores selling bb guns to police. he will work with the police and l&i to deal with the stores. dann cuellar channel 6 "action news." >> philadelphia police are looking for a woman who helped herself to money from this donation box. this surveillance video shows her taking the donation box
