>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and with matt o'donnell, tamala >> good morning everyone, it's 5 o'clock on this tuesday, september 23 and we're following breaking traffic news. >> a tractor-trailer overturns on 95 making for a messy early morning rush. >> we're monitoring military action in the middle east. the u.s. has begun airstrikes on isis targets in syria. >> autumn is now officially under way and accuweather is tracking a chilly morning alongside a seasonal switch. david. >> all right, guys, on the big board we have cloud cover down to the south but lots of clear spaces getting ready for sunshine this morning across most of the region. but get your coats out. 52 degrees in philadelphia, just 44 in allentown now, 45 in reading, 46 in wilmington, 47 in trenton and 44 in

millville. if the kids are headed out to catch the bus this morning bundle them up a bit. they'll need a jacket or a sweatshirt with temperatures ranging between 50 at 6:00 a.m., 54 by 8:00 a.m. but that's in philadelphia. some of the suburbs will be stuck in the 40's. and as we roll through the day similar to yesterday, looks like we'll climb out of the 50's to the 60's by lunchtime and then the high today 71 probably around 3:30 or 4 o'clock. not as windy as it was. matt and tam we'll be back with the complete forecast. word of some showers on the way. >> all right, thank you, david. and now. >> now let's get to the latest on breaking traffic news. "action news" reporter katherine scott live near the scene of that overturned truck in bridesburg. >> first off let's start with karen rogers. good morning. >> good morning, we're looking live here at i-95 at bridge street and you can already see traffic still just at the scene right here. look at this southbound traffic right here. we can see that's that it's jammed as you're at bridge street. an accident involving an overturned truck here on i-95 southbound, flipped over onto the northbound side.

the problem was it was carrying trash, all over the highway and a 75-gallon fuel spill, that's now out there. now, here's what's new. they've just arrived here with the heavy duty tow truck on the scene with this one. they've got to pick up the trash that's all over the highway. we've got only one lane getting by in each direction and they've got to deal with a fuel spill. we've got penndot out there laying down the absorbent trying to deal with the 75-gallon fuel spill out there on the highway, just one lane get, by in each direction. hazmat crews called to the scene as well. we're jammed southbound from past cottman to bridge street, northbound at least the two left lanes blocked. let's go to the maps and show you what you can do. frankford avenue a good alternate for you or you can also use the boulevard, route 1 instead of i-95 southbound and northbound. we've got restrictions with this overturned tractor-trailer that was carrying trash and a fuel spill all over the highway. as if that's not enough, one more overturned truck just in right now. northeast extension southbound

past quakertown. this one blocking the right lane. expect delays here as well but of course the big story is that one on i-95 right now. we'll be following it through the morning, tam. >> that's right, karen. in fact let's go live right now to "action news" reporter katherine scott. she's live on the ground near that scene of that crash in bridesburg. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and that driver is at hahnemann university hospital in stable condition. he has various injuries, lacerations but is expected to be okay. meanwhile here on 95 the cleanup is under way and this could take some time. take a look at the median. it's flattened here along this stretch. the tractor-trailer is on its side. it landed on the median and spilled over into the northbound lanes so there is lane closures here on both sides of the highway. traffic is getting by, one lane on either side but you can see it's getting by slowly and as it gets later it could be a mess. 75 gallons of fuel from the gas tank spilled and so crews are now applying absorbents. this all happened just before 3:30 this morning on 95 near

the bridge street exit in bridesburg. police say the tractor-trailer driver was in the left lane, lost control and veered into the median and actually hit a sign that said no trucks in the left lane. that sign hit a minivan traveling in the northbound lanes but the driver of the minivan is okay and there's just minor damage to that vehicle. as for the tractor-trailer, though, it landed on its side on top of the median. the fuel tank ruptured. hazmat crews were called to the scene. the tractor-trailer was carrying trash and now trash is all over the highway as well as the fuel and pieces of the tractor-trailer. because it is early and there aren't that many cars on the road we're not seeing some that big of a backup yet but traffic has to slow as it gets by on one lane in the northbound lane, one lane in the southbound lanes so it could get bad as it gets later there is a bit of a cleanup left to do. as to what caused this accident, it's still early on in the investigation but investigators tell me that because it was a slow veer, because of the way that the

damage presents itself on the roadway, it looks like that the driver may have fallen asleep or had a medical condition but again, he remains at hahnemann university hospital and this investigation is under way as is the cleanup. we're live along 95, katherine scott, channel6 "action news". >> ♪ >> and developing overnight the u.s. has launched its first airstrikes against isis in syria, a country already decimated by civil war. new video shows an attack in the northern province. the u.s. and five arab nations are taking that's right a coordinated offensive. other airstrikes targeted a military air base. until now the american attacks on isis have centered on iraq, now they've moved to 0y the islamic terror group beheaded two americans as well as a british aide worker. president obama may address the isis threat later today. >> detectives are hunting right now for the person who opened fire along a crowded philadelphia street in broad daylight. one bullet struck and killed a 15-year-old girl. it happened as a fight broke

out near einstein medical center in olney yesterday. a 15-year-old girl was shot in the back and died. a 19-year-old bystander was wounded. police say they were not the intended targets. they have questioned five people who were part of the melee. >> it is now 5:06 and police are on the lookout for man who tried to abduct a teenage interhaddonfield. she told police a man drove up and asked her name thursday night on the unit block of tanner street. when she ignored the man he jumped out of his vehicle and grabbed her. the teen was able to get away. the man is in his 20's or 30's and he may have scratches on his face, neck and chest. if you have any information, please call haddonfield police. >> a nurse's strike at crozer chester medical center is scheduled to end this morning but the rn's won't be going back to work immediately. >> what do we want? >> the union protested last night outside the upland high school demanding higher staff levels. hospital administrators say with the average salary above $100,000 a year cost cutting

is necessary. the hospital hired temporary nurses for a five day stretch so that means the 550 striking nurses will not return to work until friday morning. they have been working without a contract since june 8th. the pennsylvania house has approved a bill that allows philadelphia to raise cigarette taxes two dollars per pack. the city hopes the tax increase will generate $83 million a year for the philadelphia school district, money it desperately needs. the house approved the bill 114 to 84. the senate will vote on the bill tomorrow. governor corbett says he will sign it. >> time to turn now take a look at your accuweather and a lot cooler than it was yesterday. >> yes especially some of those suburbs. we're dry across the region so that's good. let's get you outside and we have sky 6 looking at the ben franklin bridge and currently winds are lighter than they were yesterday. that's going to continue to be the case and overall the big story this morning is just how much cooler it is. let's get you to those numbers. we're at 52 degrees in

philadelphia. but a lot of the suburbs in the 40's. 47 in trenton, 44 in allentown, 45 in reading, 46 in wilmington. we are going to improve a little bit this afternoon but starting out cool and of course i brought in in always on seven day on the left hand portion of your screen for those of you watching in hd who want to look ahead. there you see satellite. we have some cloud cover down by the shore so the sun might have a little bit more of a struggle down there but over most of the region we are looking at clear skies right now and we should start out pretty private as we roll up to allentown this afternoon we're going to go mostly sunny there with perhaps a few afternoon clouds developing. pleasant with a high of 70. not as windy as yesterday. and down the shore, well, sun mixing with clouds, especially early as those clouds will try to evaporate and 68 the high so a little bit on the chilly side down along the water and in philadelphia, a high of 71, sun mixing with some occasional clouds, not as windy as yesterday and winds northwest at just four to 8 miles per hour. here's how it's going to go today. 54 by 8:00 a.m., so still

pretty cool in philadelphia by 8:00 and some suburbs still holding onto the 40's through the rush hour. 61 by 11:00. then 67 by 2 o'clock and 70 at 5 o'clock with that high of 71 probably around 3:30 or 4 o'clock. a little later in the day. and then tomorrow, well, yesterday we talked about how midweek could get cloudier because of a southern system. it now looks like that system wants to track close enough to us to not only give us clouds but by wednesday night showers especially down by the shore and by thursday we could actually see during the morning rush hour perhaps some periods of steadier rain moving in and of course we'll be right here to show that you on storm tracker 6 live double scan. you'll get the most up to date images on that rain right here. thursday afternoon a few lighter sprinkles and and showers possible. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast shows a-71, tomorrow sun in the morning gives way to increasing clouds and late in the day or at night we'll be on the lookout for showers, 75 is the high. now looks like it's cloudy and damp on thursday with periods

>> ♪ >> good morning everyone. 5:12, tuesday morning. i know this is breaking up but this is a picture we have right now sky 6 taking a live look at that bad accident on i-95 which is tying up traffic as we speak. >> karen rogers has been keeping an eye on this figuring out exactly what's going on and the best way to get around it. good morning, karen. >> the overturned tractor-trailer as katherine scott has been reporting live was on i-95 southbound at bridge street and it then flipped over to the northbound lanes crashing right through the median. it was carrying debris, trash much it's got debris all over the roadway. there's trash on i-95 northbound and southbound and a 75-gallon fuel spill. they're out there right now with the heavy duty tow truck. they also have penndot on scene trying to lay down absorbent to deal with this huge fuel spill they're dealing with. because of that we own have one lane getting by on i-95 southbound rkt one lane on i-95 northbound so it's really creating a messy situation here. southbound traffic you can see

right here is already jammed past cottman to bridge street even though it's still early. that is only going to get worse with one lane getting by in each direction. use frankford avenue or use the boulevard route 1 instead of i-95 with only one lane getting by in each direction. it's a messy situation right there. as we look at our computer traffic report we see someone talking about a problem as they call it a complete stand still on the northeast extension and here's why. that overturned tractor-trailer, not our only overturned problem. we've got an overturned truck on the northeast extension here about 3 miles south of the interchange past quakertown. we just got off with police the -- on the phone with police here telling us that it was a philly pretzel truck so now it's blocking the right lane and the shoulder so you've got the right lane and the shoulder blocked with this one. expect delays here. injuries appear to be minor here fortunately. use 309 southbound as your alternate but of course the big story with traffic is this

overturned tractor-trailer, the huge fuel spill all on i-95 at bridge street and we'll be following that all morning. even though we're talking about a couple really nasty accidents already there's no weather related problems out there, it's dry, it's 52 degrees right now in philadelphia, only 44 in allentown. in fact a huge temperature change. in just 24 hours it's 17 degrees colder right now in allentown than it was at this point yesterday, 13 degrees colder in philadelphia, almost 20 degrees colder in millville so make sure you grab that jacket as you're headed out right now, tam. >> thank you karen. developing this morning israeli officials say two palestinians suspected of abducting and killing three israeli teens have been killed. israeli forces stormed a west bank hideout early this morning shooting the two suspects. the teens abduction in june sparked a massive man hunter led to the arrest of hundreds of hamas activists and eventually sparked the summer war in gaza. the suspected mastermind of the abduction and murders is already behind bars. a judge in philadelphia has ordered the retrial of a man who has spent 23 years in

prison for a rape and murder. anthony wright was convicted in the 1991 death of 77 year old nicetown residents louise tally. the group the innocence project called for a dna test and the results matched another man a now deceased convict convicted felon who slept in an abandoned home next to the victim's house. wright's son was in court as a judge overturned his father's conviction. >> it was real emotional. it was the only thing that was -- they was using as solid evidence and now what else is there? >> but the philadelphia d.a.'s office stands by the conviction saying "the defendant is the person who murdered louise tally in 1991. this new dna evidence only shows that the defendant did not act alone when he committed this heinous crime ." wright remains in prison awaiting a hearing next week. >> the eagles say starting center jason kelce will need surgery for a sports hernia. there is no official timetable
