"action news" reporter katherine scott is live near the scene of an overturned truck in bridesburg. >> first off let's start with karen rogers. good morning. >> good morning, chopper six live over the scene in hd. this is i-95 right at bridge street and you can see this tractor-trailer overturned completely flipped over on its side. we've got a 75-gallon fuel spill. you can kind of make it out there on the road and debris all over the roadway because it was carrying trash. as chopper 6 zooms out we can kind of see only one lane getting by in each direction. this is southbound on i-95 where it was originally traveling flipped over into the northbound lanes. look at all the workers they have on the scene with this. already a heavy duty tow truck here as well. we see the backup and this is the northbound backup. southbound backup right here. it's significant at this point and only going to grow with only one lane getting by at this point.
6:02 am
we can switch to our traffic cameras. you can see a different shot of this. this is the i-95 south backup right here and we're jammed at this point already approaching cottman to bridge street. northbound here jams approaching the betsy ross bridge to bridge street where we again have only one lane getting by in each direction a mess on i-95 and volume is very light at this point because we don't have as many people out on the road as we'll have in another half hour or an hour so likely these delays are just going to continue to grow. here we've got 16 miles an hour approaching the scene on the northbound side, 20 miles an hour approaching it on the southbound side. what you can do is take frankford avenue or you could take the boulevard instead. if you want to hop into new jersey shes this is 295, you see green traffic flow, you would be flying along 295 with no problem so you can come into new jersey and use 295 as an alternate as well because likely this is going to be a problem for awhile now. they've got to clean up the fuel spill, clean up the trash. meanwhile another overturned truck, this is the northeast extension southbound past quakertown blocking the right lane also blocking the shoulder.
6:03 am
this is going to creator big backups as well. sticks to 309 as your alternate instead but of course the big story is on i-95 with both lanes affected with this overturned tractor-trailer, tam. >> thank you karen. let's go back to that situation on 95 and stay there with katherine scott who is down there on the ground who can can can give us a sense of what things like like from there. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and the driver of the tractor-trailer is in stable condition. he was taken to the hospital with various injuries, lacerations but is doing okay. and you can see the cleanup is under way here. they brought in some heavy equipment but this could take some time and take a look at the median. it is crushed here along this stretch. the tractor-trailer is on its side up ahead. it landed on the median and spilled over into the northbound lanes. so, there are lane closures here on both sides of the highway. 75 gallons of fuel from the gas tank spilled and so crews are applying absorbent. this happened before 3:30 this morning here on 95 near the bridge street exit in bridesburg and police say the

tractor-trailer driver was going southbound in the left lane, lost control and veered into the median and actually hit a sign that said no trucks in the left lane. that sign hit a minivan traveling in the northbound lanes but the driver of the minivan is okay and there's just minor damage to the minivan. the tractor-trailer landed on its side but not only did the fuel tank rupture but the tractor-trailer was carrying trash and now trash saul over the highway as well. at this point police believe the driver either had a medical condition or fell asleep but it's still early on in this investigation. as it's gotten later we have seen the backups getting bigger and bigger here. they have been working on this cleanup. again they have that tow, they have different equipment here. they've been trying to clear this away but it's just going to take some time. i know karen rogers has been giving you some alternates. definitely take them because it is bad and it's going to get worse as it gets later. live along 95, katherine scott, channel6 "action news".

6:34 am
the tractor-trailer landed on its side on top of the median. the fuel tank ruptured. hazmat crews were called in. later as more cars have been on the roads we've seen the backups get worse so you want to avoid the area. at this point police believe the driver either had a medical condition or fell asleep behind the wheel but it's still very early on in the investigation but they say that's what the wreckage indicates at this point in time. so, again, the latest on the scene right now is that they have uprightd that vehicle with that crane there. they're starting to clean up, scooping up some of the trash from the roadway and putting it in a dumpster but you can still see there's closures on either side of 95. so, there's still quite a bit of work left to do. we're live along 95, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thanks, katherine. and developing at this hour the u.s. military launched its first airstrikes on islamic militants in syria. five arab nations are also taking part to try to flush out the dangerous and well funded terror group from land it seized over the summer.

russell, my twitter follower in berks county reports 45 degrees and that is par for the course for a lot of the suburb. most of the suburbs looking at chilly conditions. philadelphia 53 so a little better in the city. dewpoint down there. winds are calm. that's one nice change, the winds aren't all that strong. if you're watching in hd i have addd that always on seven day feature on the left hand portion of your screen. clouds down the shore a little pronounced but it looks like the sun will dig through them quickly. elsewhere plenty of sun as the sun comes up over the next 15, 20 minutes and we're looking at a cool one out there. 54 degrees in philadelphia by 8 o'clock, only 61 by 5 o'clock and keep in mind that many suburbs will still be inching into the upper 40's by 8 o'clock, so a very chilly morning commute. in the afternoon, though, similar to yesterday. by 2 o'clock, 67. and your high 71 probably around 4 o'clock this afternoon. high temperatures across the region not too much of a range outside of the shore.
6:40 am
70 degrees in allentown, very similar to wilmington, trenton, philadelphia. 68 in millville and then right down along the coast some spots like cape may may only stop in the mid 60's. now tomorrow we are looking at a wave of low pressure and we talked about this yesterday. looked like it was going to be to our south and close enough to the coast to spill that clouds in. it looks like it's going to be a little farther to the north and a little stronger and we may actually get some rain. we don't expect this to begin until tomorrow night, wednesday at 8 o'clock you see how the showers begin to build in and by 11 o'clock they may not have even reached philadelphia. the big change is for the thursday morning commute. it now looks like there will be a good rain band coming in off the ocean during the morning so that right here on channel 6 we'll be showing you some decent rainfall potentially in parts of the region at rush hour on storm tracker 6 live double scan. get the most up to date images of this rain on our radar so this is the place to check this out. looks like it kind of dies down as we go into the afternoon. thursday does look to be a wet

>> 6:43. chopper 6 showing progress live along i-95 but progress not moving soon enough for the morning commute. that truck there was on its side and has been for quite some time -- or had been. trash is all over the place but at the very least they've gotten this thing upright so they can begin moving it out of the way so hopefully we'll have traffic moving here as normal sometime later today. >> but karen that's not going to be a swift process and it's not a good time right now for commuters to use 95. >> at at all. it's a mess and we have three different views. chopper if you can stay on the scene for a minute right here, what i want to show you, you don't see this every day, they're digging the trash off of i-95. you see this big pile of trash because the overturned tractor-trailer was carrying it. they're putting it on this dump truck waiting over here and they were able to flip over the tractor-trailer so now it's upright at least. you've got to hook to the
6:45 am
heavy duty tow truck and while they're doing this work they're letting some lanes get by. wife got one lane getting by northbound. southbound you've got one lane but they're also using the exit ramp to try to squeeze in more traffic so they're trying to allow traffic to get by. now chopper as you pan back you can kind of see the traffic that is building at this point and it has been for hours. this started at 3:30 in the morning and for most of the morning you've only had one lane getting by on i-95 northbound and southbound at bridge street. so, this is your southbound delay that just stretches on for miles. you're now jammed past academy to bridge street on i-95 southbound. northbound is jammed past allegheny to bridge street. so, you see all this traffic just stuck here on i-95. we've been telling you the alternates all morning and it's a good idea to just keep taking them because it's going to take them so long to keep cleaning up the trash and the 75-gallon fuel spill that's out there as well. so they have a lot to deal with and this is the southbound delay, just a mess on i-95 as far as the eye can can see. you've got these people waiting to get some movement here on i-95 and i think it's
6:46 am
going to be awhile longer. let's go to some of our other views right here. this is a ground view. you can kind of see how it's trash just all over the highway. they have a lot to deal with this morning. even the guardrail itself, the median completely crushed when the tractor-trailer flipped over on the northbound and southbound lanes. you could see what it look of looked like early this morning. they've been doing a good job trying to clean it up. this is a different view. you can see i-95 southbound is really jammed especially as they try to squeeze by there near bridge street so a mess. what can you do about it? these are your speeds, 10 miles an hour northbound and southbound. take frankford avenue, take the boulevard although we've got an accident on the boulevard southbound at third street. you'll be dealing with that. or come into new jersey. 295 is clear. you're not going to have a problem. i know it's a little ways but it's a way of getting away from the mess at least and we've got a good two-mile -- we've got a good backup here northeast extension southbound past quakertown, two or 3 miles at this point all because of this overturned truck, yet another overturned
6:47 am
truck out here blocking the right lane, blocking the shoulder. you can use 309 southbound as your alternate. one more thing i want to mention because this is huge, first time this morning the ramp, can you see this sign, ramp closed. this is the ramp from spring garden to the schuylkill westbound. this is the first morning without it. it will be closed for two months. you can use the girard avenue on-ramp or the vine westbound ramp instead. a lot going on this morning, tam. >> yes, indeed. thank you, karen. police and the fbi are still searching for eric frein. he's the suspected killer of pennsylvania state trooper bryon dixon. the search is now focused on a rural part of monroe county where frein lived with his parents. officials say they think that they're closing in on him. some schools in that area are reopening for the first time today since that search began. >> and new this morning, here the newly crowned miss america plans to offer her side of a sorority scandal to "good morning america" this morning. the former pledge at hofstra university accuses kira kazantsev of abuse. she was kick out of the sorority last year. an anonymous source claims the

>> welcome back. we've got a mess on the roadways. let's go right to chopper 6 live on the scene. the big story has been on i-95. you can see the trash all over the highway, that overturned tractor-trailer carrying not only trash but there was a 75-gallon fuel spill on i-95. we only have like one and a half lanes getting by southbound, one lane getting by northbound. let's go to the maps right here and talk about how to get around it. you could hop in new jersey and take 295. you can take frankford avenue, which is going to be jammed or take the boulevard but now we've got two accidents on the boulevard. one northbound at adams avenue, one southbound at third street. a new accident on the vine westbound approaching the schuylkill and the tacony palmyra bridge going up dave. >> my goodness. on the big board this morning mary my twitter follower in havertown tweets 48 degrees and that is a very common number across the region. lots of spots in the 40's. 45 in wilmington, 48 in allentown, 45 in reading. 53 in philadelphia, from you can in trenton.

low 40's down the shore. if you're dressing the kids cool enough for a sweatshirt or jacket. if you're running errands a cool start. 50's by 9 o'clock, 60's by noon. this afternoon looks pretty good with a high of 71 degrees probably around 4 o'clock today, tam. >> okay, thank you, david. it was my gm monday -- my jam monday. actress lea thompson led the pack with 35 points. the first week front runner al fan so ribiero slipped a bit with eights. nascar legends michael waltrip is bringing up the rear. you'll see him in a few minute. that was alphonso ribiero shaking it out. here's michael waltrip. he only got 24 points. not the most inspired dancing. at 8 o'clock rig

guardrail crushed. it was carrying trash which was all over road but they've since been scooping it up. in addition to all of that the fuel tank ruptured so 75 gallons of fuel from the gas tank spilled onto the road so that's what they've been dealing with here. avoid this area. there's still some cleanup left to do, still quite a bit of equipment out on the roadway here. i know karen has more on the traffic situation so let's go to karen in this video. karen. >> that's right, katherine, it is a mess out there, continues to be. we've got -- that's your southbound side on the right. you can see it's jammed past academy to bridge street. we've got only one and a half lanes getting by, people sneaking by on the exit ramp too. northbound jammed past allegheny to bridge street. it will be out there awhile. stick to frankford avenue, the boulevard or 295 in new jersey and another big issue, another overturned truck on the northeast extension southbound past quakertown. we're backed up for miles here as well, dave. >> many, many thanks to my numerous twitter followers who have been tweeting in these chilly numbers this morning. diana in ocean view, new jersey in cape may county one of the cooler spots at
