>> good morning, everyone, it is 5:00 a.m. on this thursday, september 25, here's what's happening. >> accuweather is tracking drenching downpours across the tri-state area, we have the latest on how this could impact your morning commute. >> crews in delaware county battle smoke and flames to reach a person trapped in a fast-moving house fire. >> police catch up with the suspect in the disappearance of the virginia student more than 1,000 miles away from home. >> where the storm is at and what it is doing to traffic good morning. >> reporter: storm tracker 6 live double scan is doing an excellent job showing where the heavy bands are pushing into

philadelphia and the northern suburbs. looks like this final band has to push through, as well before it dries out. what to expect of the rest of the way during the morning rush. well, we are looking at slow going in general what i am terming splashy roads and that means poor drainage areas could winds up having a hart time with the heavy rain coming down particularly heavily. i expect that to continue through the rush hour and taper off with spot showers and drizzle in the afternoon. we'll be looking at gusty winds, they will be stronger at the shore than inland, but in the northern areas you could get gusts up to 20 to 30 miles per hour. 59 at 6:00 a.m., 60 at 8:00 a.m. the profile throughout the day is a cool one.

expressway westbound past gulph mills. another accident one in pilots involving an overturned vehicle that went off the roadway, 422 westbound approaching route 100. millville, cumberland county a downed tree blocking route 49 near 55. a lot happening already. >> let's go live to "action news" reporter, katherine scott live in atlantic city with a look on conditions there, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, as you can see it's very windy here, i actually had a big golf umbrella, i couldn't use it because it blew inside out. it's been raining all morning long, too, you can see the boardwalk here in atlantic city is wet, too. of course it's early, so you don't usually see too many people out here, but especially with these conditions it seems empty. rain is expected to continue

tomorrow. we could seacoastal and tidal flooding in the area. high tide is at 9:00 a.m. on the oceanfront. later in the morning in the back bay and inlets. areas that are prone to tidal flooding could see flooding on the roads today. it's dark so it's hard to see the water. you can see the dunes there and over the ridge you can see water. there could dangerous conditions out there today, as well. there's a rip currents. if you're on -- i can barely hear anything. if you're on the ground, see heavy rain and winds in atlantic city, a good day to stay inside and wear a rain slicker because i don't think your umbrella will be effective. >> okay, katherine, get back in the van. new this morning, firefighters had to rescue a person from a burning home, a fast-moving fire broke out at

1:00 p.m. morning on pine street near popular in darby. when firefighters got there, they were told that person was trapped, the victim is being treated for burns and smoke. another person was treated at the scene for minor injuries. investigators are still looking for the cause of that fire. >> happening today, opening statements begin in the montgomery county trial of a man charged with killing a 10-month-old baby and the baby's grandmother. the two were killed in october of 201. he gave this chilling video tape confession to detectives that may be shown during the trial. prosecutors said he killed the two during a botched kidnapping. they say he hoped to get a ransom to help pay debts stemming in part from a gambling problem.

if convicted he could get the death penalty. police want to know who fired a single shot at a parked pemberton cruiser. an officer was sitting inside the cruiser. he was not hurt. the bullet hit the roof, but did not penetrate the inside of vehicle. >> a human rights group said another round of airstrikes in syria has killed 14 militants and five civilians. the five civilians killed were women and children. they were killed near isis controlled oil refineries. they were most likely family members. prime minister david camera wants parliament to approve british airstrikes in iraq. parliament is going to debate the issue tomorrow. >> we saw katherine scott getting blown all over the boardwalk in atlantic city. >> reporter: wind a problem and obviously the rain. storm tracker 6 live double scan

showing there's lots of rain out there. it's pushing in from the ocean as expected. as you look at the bird's eye view the heavy stuff is starting to push through wilmington and into areas close to philadelphia delaware county getting some of the yellow and a lot of yellow over central/south jetter. south jersey. wewe'll go in closer, the blue route is getting wet. there's a break in the action along the schuylkill expressway. but you've had this rain passing through and more to come. it's still wet on the expressway. i-95 is wet. p-a turnpike also on the wet side. it's areas to the south, route 55, the ac expressway is picking up the heavier stuff as this moves to the north. the expressway toward egg hard boar, route 55 in and out of the

heavier rain right, but that yellow will be an issue for you. farther to the south down by the coast not only is the wind strong as katherine scott just showed us, we are wet there, with a lot of the heavier stuff push you go up away from the shore communities that means the roads are taking it on and you are waiting for it to dry out. i will point out to you allentown and reading are dodging the bullet on this. you won't get as much rain up here, but it will be arriving in the next 30 to 60 minutes and your roads will get wet. as we look outside, we have sky6 live hd looking at center city it is cloudy and on the wet side this morning. temperatures across the region are cool. 61 degrees right now in philadelphia. 59 degrees in allentown and notice i have added the always on seven day on the left hand portion of your screen for those of you watching in hd.

trouble on the roads. let's go over to karen rogers. >> reporter: you have to give yourself a lot of extra time and a lot space between yourself and the car ahead of you. 202 in malvern we had construction that cleared. in upper merion we have an accident that ran into the median on the schuylkill expressway westbound past gulph mills at exit 330. something to watch for what could happen on wet roads. in pilots it's an accident involving -- pottstown it's an accident 422 approaching route hundred off the roadway. watch for emergency workers coming to the scene in pottstown that's causing a problem. in millville, current county we have this downed tree blocking 49 that's main street westbound blocked near 55. the wet roads are wet through the area.

shooting. suv drove down the street before colliding with another car. police took both suspects into custody. the man wanted in connection with the disappearance of a university of virginia student was arrested. he is charge with abduction with intent to defile. matthew was the last person seen with hannah gram who vanished september 13 after leaving an off-campus party. 15 football players are recovering from first and second degree chemical burns. apparently a custodian cleaned helmets and pads with chemicals meant only for floors and the wall. players wore the gear during a 3 hour practice. one player ended up in the hospital after his burns became infected. the eagles ruled that when
