"action news" reporter kenneth moton is live at the scene with the full story, kenneth. >> reporter: well, walter we know councilman todd russell and his wife are by their daughter's side at the children's hospital of philadelphia we also know after this dog attack, here inside of the home a few hours ago the eight year-old was flown from ai du pont in critical condition. we are told that doctors are trying to safe her arm. this is the scene in newark, minutes after a police say a violent encounter with the family dog almost turned fatal for an eight y year-old girl. daughter of council man todd russell. >> she's such a friendly girl. she loves animal. my heart goes out to the family. i feel awful. >> reporter: neighbors saw emergency vehicles lining up at 1:00 p.m. on their street when the pit bull attack the girl in the basement biting the child all over her body and severely injuring her arm. investigators say actions of the 15 year-old sister most likely saved her life. the teen beat the dog off the eight year-old and called 911.

>> that is very heroic, to step in and put yourself in harms way to protect someone you love. >> reporter: that pit bull remain in the basement room door stopping girls from escaping. the once police arrived the 15 year-old managed to carry her sister to safety. they were forced to open fire on the dog, killing it. neighbor dewagman says her children would often play at the house. >> they would assure me that the dog was locked separately and they would have no contact with that dog. >> reporter: the councilman was elected in april. his wife, ex-husband says his daughter was also in the home at the time of the attack, he rushed here and learned she was safe. >> it is an pit bull, great dog. >> reporter: your daughter was over here. >> yes. >> reporter: what went through your mine. >> i was worried about both kids. i mean, i don't know. >> reporter: once again the eight year-old girl, i should say is in critical condition, at chop. parents say she lost a lot of blood especially in her arm, once again, police say that

this incident and this dog attack is still under investigation. reporting live from newark delaware, kenneth moton for channel six "action news", walter. >> thanks, kenneth. deadly accident involving a septa bus remains under investigation tonight. investigators say bus was making a left-hand turn from 15th street to washington avenue when it struck a woman and her young son crossing the street. the the 29 year-old mother died at the scene last night. seven year-old boy was taken to the hospital with cuts and bruises. investigators have yet to release names of the victims. charges have been filed in last night's hit and run death of the seven three-year old man in east mt. airy. man had just pick up his three-year old grandson from football practice. they were driving through the intersection of the easy gorges lane andardly street when their vehicle was struck by an suv. the the driver and passenger jumped out and fled the scene. they were caught a short time later. the seven three-year old was pronounced dead at the scene, the 13 year-old was transferred to children's hospital but is expect to be okay. well, investigators are looking for person who shot

and killed a man in strawberry mansion overnight. investigators say a 39 year-old man was shot once in the head, on the 2900 block of east oakdale or west oakdale sleet shortly before 1:00a mn word on the victim's identity. police in moorestown are looking for this man who held up a 7-eleven earlier this morning. robbery happened at the store there on camden avenue and lenola road, the robbery reportedly threatened the clerk with the gun and then fled with an unknown amount of cash. the authorities are still searching for a man from northeast philadelphia who suffers from alzheimer's. six two-year old john jean baptiste was seen on the 3600 block of allergen avenue. in addition to suffering from alzheimer's he speaks limited english, 5 feet 6 inches tall, last seen wearing a green shirt with the black design and black pants. if you have seen him please call the police. it could not have been a better day all across the region there were comfortable temperatures and sunny skies for these good people browsing

the rose garden in north wales today. garden hosted a fall festival for families, celebrating 75 years in business. how long could this possibly last? meteorologist karen rodgers has that answer at the big game. >> just long enough to enjoy the rest of the weekend. right now we are looking at the temperatures 76 degrees. seventy-six still at this point in philadelphia. just within the last ten minutes, temperatures dropped about 5 degrees after sunset. we made it in the 80's today. eighty-four for a high. it was gorgeous. satellite six and action radar showing us we still have clear skies right now. in fact you have to go to pittsburgh to see any kind of cloud cover. satellite image just showing how clear it business this high pressure right overhead. in fact one of my favorite assignment editors here steve mckenzie sent us this beautiful picture of pocono lake. i like it because as you look up here you cane not a cloud in the sky. hard to tell the difference between the sky and beautiful lake. i'm tweet ago this one out today. looking ahead we will have a gorgeous evening if you are doing anything outside and at least you trying to.

it included a bunch of carnival games, live music and health screenings for everyone there. also a perfect day to celebrate two centuries of independence in delaware county. colonial reknackors marked county's 225th birthday. back in 1789, when the county separated from chester county. neighbors here gathered at the courthouse on front street in media, for the living history festival to mark this special occasion. zero seven future nursees were packing up to save lives in chester county today. these students from villanova university filled containers with medical supplies, at the mission relief headquarters in coatsville for country's dealing with that terrible ebola out break. volunteers have been working overtime since the the out break started in west africa. many of these containers will be shipped there to help treat those infect. mission relief organizers say the need is enormous. >> you know, they have 40 hospitals, 720 people in them. so mattresses, things of that nature, hospital beds, stretchers, they are just

a freak accident claimed the life of the well known former congressman. james trafficcan, the ohio politician who was quick of taking bribes, has died. he was injured on tuesday when

a vintage tractor trailer or a tractor i should say flipped overtop of him as he tried to park it inside his barn. he served 17 years in congress. he was 73 years old. a small college community in texas is in mourning today, after four members of a school's softball team were killed in the bus crash. the crash involved a north central texas college softball team that happened about 9:00 o'clock last night in davis, oklahoma. a tractor trailer jump the median and smashed in the bus that forced the impact sheared open the entire side of the bus. four players were killed, and a dozen others were injured. >> these ladies are, of course, our own and we love all of our students. >> the the investigation will now include toxicology tests, on both drivers, involved. well, things slowly getting back to normal at airports across the country after an employee at an air traffic control center allegedly brought chicago's airports to the halt. yesterday more than 2,000 flights, in and out of o'hare and midway, were canceled,

which had a ripple effect on flights all across the country. even this afternoon nearly 800 flights were canceled at o'hare. officials say it all started when an employee of the air traffic control center in aurora, illinois, slit his own throat and set a fire. he survived and now faces a slew of charges. and former first daughter chelsea clinton is now a new mom. she gave birth to her first child last night a baby girl. clinton announced news on social media earlier this morning saying she and her husband mark mezvinsky are filled with love and awe at the birth of their baby. her name is charlotte. former president bill clinton and former secretary of state hillary clinton say they are blessed, grateful and happy to be grandparents. charlotte's other grand mommies former montgomery county congress woman margaret margolis. still to come on "action news" tonight eagles head to the city by the bay to face the 49ers. jeff is up next with the preview of the big match up.

let's look at those numbers 84 degrees, was our high today. 10 degrees above average. dipped down to 59 in the morning. mornings are cool, afternoon bright and sunny. unseasonably warm. sunset was at 6:50 today. looking at the temperature now still 76 degrees. still mild in philadelphia here's in the lower 70's in the lehigh valley, 71 allentown, mid 07's in red. seven eleven in millville a long the coastline about 07 degrees. satellite six and action radar showing you can see effects of high pressure right there. nothing happening. hardly a cloud in the sky. you have to go out to the western pa to try to feel a little bit of cloud cover. not that the we're looking for it in the overnight hours, we're staying mainly clear. that is this high pressure above to us day and tomorrow, as well. really is a winning weekend. tomorrow the flow around that high, more out of the southwest, or wind will shift a little bit. it will be nice, and warm. as for tonight mainly clear skies, a little patchy fog will develop late. so would i watch for that especially heading out early in the morning.
