this morning did have working smoke detectors, but it was not enough to save an 18-year-old man killed trying to get out of the home in the 2700 block of helen street. they are trying to figure out how it got started as the family starts to grieve. and vernon odom live at the scene with more. >> the fire marshal probing all over the two-story row house today looking for a probable cause, but so far no ruling. peco investigators were here looking for faulty wiring due to possible pirating of electricity. the family says they were using candles for lights because utilities were shut off weeks ago. deep sorrow along he will loan street. a well-liked neighborhood kid perished in a pre-dawn blaze in his house on helen. christian rivera found on the first floor, the father of a toddler who was staying with grandparents overnight

fortunately. his invalid mother has been hospitalized for weeks. firefighters heard at least one working smoke detector in the house. >> the 24th fire fatality for the year. last year at this time we had 24, so that means we had the same number. including everyone that participated in keep the fire fatalitieses down. >> in the mitt -- midst of the smoke they tried to rip them out of the front window. >> the air conditioner was popping and basically popped in our face. and me and the other neighbor tried to kick the door in to no avail. >> rivera's relatives are trying to cope with his tragic loss. >> he is a good kid. always there for his son, always there for his mom. he always helped them out. >> again, no word tonight from the fire marshal.

there is a lot of economic despair in the 2700 block of helen street. live in port richmond, vernon odom channel 6 "action news." >> thank you, vernon. a 24 year old man fighting home run his life after he and mother man were shot in west philadelphia. the scene where the investigators found two with multiple gunshot wounds and both taken to the hospital at the university of pennsylvania for treatment. still not clear why they were shot or who is responsible. a delaware county mother arrested for allegedly trying to get her daughter to fight a fellow classmate. upper darby police say 26 year old nicole holton told her daughter to set up a fight. and saying the school did not settle a problem at school and she suggested they settle it with fists. and isis.

they continued against their strongholds this weekend. and barack obama says that they under estimated the activity in syria. more from washington. >> the u.s. military officials warn it could be a very long campaign against isis. today the air force said it seems tangible progress. >> isil is unable to amast concentrated group of what you look at as almost a conventional army we had previously seen. >> and many questions about the obama administration as to whether it fully understood the threat from isis. >> i think our head of the intelligence community, james clapper, acknowledged that i think they under estimated what had been taking place in syria. >> in an interview with cbs's "60 minutes" he said the president 's administration over estimated the ability of the iraqi army. the president's spokesman on the

combat operations against the terist organization. most feel it will likely happen sooner or later. nearly half of americans think that isis is a threat to the united nations. new information on the man arrested in the disappearance of the disappears of graham. jesse matthew may be tied to the cold case of another missing student who was found dead five years ago. now authorities say 32 year old matthew provided a forensic link to investigators in the case of morgan harrington who disappeared while attending a convert at u.v.a. in 2009. her remains were later found. matthew held on charges of obstruction, attempt to defile graham and she is still missing and more on these developments surrounding the disappearance much hannah graham including new forensic evidence involving matthew. and you can watch that following

"action news at 6:00." a surprising response from wal-mart in the case filed in federal court. saying tracy morgan's extensive injuries were his own fault because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. wal-mart sued by several including morgan. in june his lemio was struck by a wal-mart big wig on the new jersey turnpike killing one and leaving morgan in critical condition. the driver of the struck faces charges for revickular homicide and the lawyers for the injured says wal-mart should have known the driver was if a teak ee eeed teaked -- fatigued when he crashed. and today young welders at the tech high showed off their heart work. these are amnesty boxes, providing a place for teens to drop off guns and drugs, no questions asked. and donating the equipment for the welding project, boxings placed in several schools and

>> police are looking for the man who stole a cash register from the holiday inn. armed with a gun this morning. and the cash register with about $400 in it and they are hoping video will lead them to the suspect. and sports, the eagles re-evaluating after yesterday's first loss of the season. >> jeff skversky in the "action news" sports center with more. >> hey guys. as hard as it was to watch once, and watch it live, eagles head coach, chip kelly, when he got home at 4:00 in the morning from san francisco watched the game tape over and over and over again. as painful as that was, kelly says the problem on offense guys are pressing too much. and chip kelly having a hard time with the play chart last night. he can't hold on to it and the eagles can't hold on to the

football. four turnovers and zero points. arguably the worst offensive performance of the chip kelly era. foles missed receiver after receiver. and chip says don't pick on nick even though he made two bad throws from the 1 to end the game. >> the position of quarterback obviously is one that gets all of the focal points. when things are on one side of the ball it is easy to say let's take him out. i have never been that way. you can't pin it all on nick. >> we will look at the video and we will be better for it because i know the guys in the locker room. >> kelly says the eagles when whooped up front. hopefully it helps against this sunday against st. louis. and the offensive tackle suspended the first four games season for testing positive. and the sixers open training camp tomorrow in new jersey.

the sixers have been stock piling draft picks the last years, but don't expect it to payoff this year. the sixers expected to among the worst nba teams again as they rebuild this franchise from the ground up. and everyone is hoping there is something to smile about. this team is not by any means picture-perfect, at least yet. >> we're really young. we're talented, and we're definitely coming together as a team. training camp starts tomorrow and it already feels a lot different. guys are comfortable, coach is more comfortable. we had time to plan out things and nothing is rushed. so i think we're going to -- you know i'm not saying we're going to go out there and win every game, but i think we will win more games than people expect us to win. >> let's hope so. while the sixers are about to get going the philly's season comes to an end. lots of changes are expected.

you are from philadelphia towards the lehigh valley in -- and the poconos. and moisture main lane west of philadelphia, south of philadelphia and a couple of sprinkles. and 76 a little wet and the blue route south of the 76 interchange. and media wet along route 1. and as we extend to the south, most of the rain is concentrated in the state of delaware. no matter where you are in delaware right now it is a wet drive this evening. it is now bumping over the river into salem and parts of cumberland county heading towards millville and 55. it's slowly working off to the north and east from the south and west. all of it's very light rain. and you know what? it is rain we need. as we look at the temperature in philadelphia, 72 degrees in philadelphia. 74 in allentown. the high in philly 76, 3 degrees above normal. and the cool air in wilmington raining much of the afternoon at

69. satellite and radar to the south low pressure just off the carolinas. that is heading out to sea with the greatest concentration of some of the heavier downpours. we are just brushed on the northern fridge of this particular system. to the west you see returning sunshine from state college to pittsburgh and grabbing some sunshine for the second day of the workweek. in fact we have new low pressure that will be coming in from the great lakes, but it will hold off through much of the day tomorrow with sun and clouds. there could be a spotty shower but we will jump that temperature back up to 79 tomorrow. and then as the low settles through the region on wednesday, it is a little bit of atmospheric energy. any sun we see will somewhat self destruct into a lot of clouds in the afternoon, evening a few showers and maybe a quick downpour wednesday afternoon. not a washout and temperatures at 75. in fact as we look at futuretracker 4:00 wednesday afternoon, there you see some of the scattered showers around the region. not everyone will see them. but if you do, again those will be much-needed rain around the

"action news" reporter, sarah bloomquist, is live at the zoo tonight. and sarah, you have the details. >> well jim, that's right. police tell "action news" the 57-year-old mechanic killed when the heavy-duty golf cart he was working on fell on top of themselves. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. and police on the scene in a maintenance area at the back of the zoo. the police say the mechanic working on the 9-foot golf cart this morning. a mechanical jack failed and the golf cart fell on his chest. no witnesses and no other workers around at the time. the mechanic laid there for an unknown amount of time until he was discovered after he failed to respond to his radio when other workers tries to contact him. pronounced dead at 11:43 a.m. the zoo will bring in
