>> braking now on "action news," a raging fire rips through homes and businesses in atlantic city am we are live near the boardwalk gathering new information. >> ebola strikes the united states. how health officials vow to stop the virus. >> a routine training session goes terribly wrong. good morning, it's 5:30 on this wednesday, first day in the month of october. david and tam are off. we have karen rogers and matt pelman. >> good morning. halfway through the week we're making it here. storm track live double scan showing most of the area is dry, maybe a little sprinkle along reading and along the coastline in ocean county swells atlantic city and surf city. other than that the area is dry. it will be a day where we'll see lots of clouds. you see it on satellite 6 and action radar right now, the line of storms that we were tracking overnight, they just kind of fell apart and left nothing more than a sprinkle

or two around but we can see showers out to our southwest that have yet to kind of cycle through. it's a day way spotty shower and lots of clouds. temperatures 58 in quakertown and saint davids. 63 in center city. 61 in hammonton and dover delaware. today our highly is 73. temperatures about where they should be. by 9:00 a.m., 67, lots of clouds, a little sun. by noon, 70 degrees, a sprinkle at any pointer today. at 3:00 p.m., 73 and by 6:00 p.m. 70 coming down from your high of 73. how about that weekend? we have some changes coming up. details in just a minute, matt. >> all right. we would like to see a change here karen rogers along 95 southbound in delaware county but so far no change. they still have the two right lanes blocked for paving work overnight meaning just the left lane is getting by between the blue route and the commodore barry bridge. this is the same setup as yesterday morning that caused huge delays and already this morning we're starting to see a delay there on the southbound travel time. you may want to stay local on roads like 291, 13 or baltimore pike instead of

southbound 95 and of course we'll keep you posted. on the roosevelt boulevard southbound between southampton and rising sun paving work happening there as well in the inner drive but no issues so far this morning on the schuylkill or the vine. however, in lindenwold there was a motorcycle crash overnight close to the middle school along white horse avenue at the white horse pike. on the eastbound white horse pike the right lane is blocked and instead of white horse avenue i would head for pacific, i'd head for atlantic or gibbsboro as alternates. in atco watch out for an overnight fire along jackson road near atco avenue. in ac we have the fire location along atlantic avenue near pennsylvania avenue. pacific or north carolina avenues will be better bets and matt i know you have more details on what's going on there. >> yeah, we continue to follow that breaking news in atlantic city. a fierce fire has displaced dozens of people and damaged several businesses near the boardwalk and the weather has been a problem, too. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live along atlantic avenue with the latest. katherine. >> reporter: and, matt, everyone was able to get out safely. no one was injured in all of

this but there is a lot of damage. 17 people right now being assisted by the red cross and cannot return home. and hours later you can see fire crews are still at work here. there are still flames coming from the top of this row of buildings here in atlantic city. they're being fueled by these strong wind gusts that we have been seeing overnight. it was around 10 o'clock last night when the fire broke out on the 1100 block of atlantic of a here in atlantic city. firefighters were on the scene in two minutes. firehouse is right down the street. and when they arrived 10 people had already gotten out on their own. officials say the fire started in the front of a business called ac alterations. the flames tour through nearby businesses in the upstairs apartments affecting four buildings. firefighters were met with multiple challenges here overnight. several floors collapsed, as did a fire wall but no firefighters were injured. no civilians were either. the wind has been propelling these flames. >> right now the wind is a

factor. pushing the fire from the burned areas to the unburned. it's not good for usism back here live you can see some of the flames out the top of this building and fire crews still at work here along this stretch of atlantic avenue which remains closed for the fire activity. so you can see there's a lot of damage, debris on the sidewalk, some of these windows have been blown out and crews remain here at work seven and a half hours after this fire began. at this point it's too early to know what caused the fire. they haven't even startd that investigation yet. but of course we'll keep you update where'd we hear any news and new details. we're live in atlantic city, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thanks so much, katherine. new this morning, a key witness helped philadelphia police make a quick work -- make a quick arrest in a deadly stabbing. officers arrested the 33-year-old suspect who returned to the scene. it happened inside a home on the 200 block of east philomena street in east mount airy. the witness was able to identify the stabber who reportedly killed the 54 year

old owner of the home overnight. investigators continue to sort out the details of deadly shooting of a pennsylvania state trooper. a motorcade delivered the body of david kedra to the medical examiner's office last night. the 26-year-old trooper was participating in an exercise at the montgomery county public safety training campus when an instructor reportedly shot and killed him by accident. the instructor's name has not been released. kedra was a two year member of the force stationed at the skippack barracks. >> a man who recently flew to the united states from the west african country of liberia has become the first diagnosed case of ebola in the united states. the man is in critical condition in an isolation unit at a dallas hospital. he did not have any symptoms of the disease when he first flew from africa and health officials say that is good news for anyone who came into contact with him at that time. >> the likelihood for this

individual to have spread it on an airplane are basically zero. symptomatically, he had no symptoms while he was traveling. >> the head of the centers for disease control is optimistic that top doctors will be able to prevent an ebola outbreak in the united states. 6abc.com has more on the first ebola case diagnosed in the u.s. head there to read a list of seven things you should know about the virus. >> happening today, mayor michael nutter will sign off on a measure to relax marijuana laws in philadelphia. come october 20th, anyone caught with an ounce of pot or less will be fined $25 instead of being arrested. using the drug in public will get violators an additional $100 fine or community service. cigarettes now cost two dollars more a pack in philadelphia. the bill that governor corbett signed last week went into effect at midnight. the tax is expected to raise about $83 million for the

city's public schools. >> and karen rogers has been kind of teaming up with katherine scott with the weather in atlantic city affecting the fire fight. >> that's right and they saw some gusty winds right along the coastline. you go just a little inland and it's 10 miles an hour not that bad but the trouble is she's standing by the water and it's along the coast. we've got rain as well. storm tracker 6 live double scan looking around the region and you can see it's dry through most of the area am i want to go in a little closer because we have a close are view of the shore line and you see in seaside heights atlantic city really one of the areas where you've got most of the showers right off the coastline right there. if you're near the boardwalk in atlantic city. let's go ahead and show you something else, too, up near reading. you can kind of see few little showers near quakertown and doylestown as well as you're headed up but it's really light at this point. let's go outside and show you what it looks like. sky 6 is live down the shore looking live in atlantic city. we've got lots of clouds. we've got some rain, especially just off the coastline right there and if you're standing near the beach, the winds are really

gusty. elsewhere, the winds really aren't too bad at all. let's look at the temperatures. 64 degrees right now in philadelphia. it's 61 in allentown, 57 in lancaster, 62 in millville. not too bad with the temperatures out there. and let's check the fog as well. not really a big issue except in lancaster. remember yesterday we were near zero visibility in lancaster. now we're looking at .8 of a mile. so an issue right there. elsewhere not an issue and 6-mile in allentown so barely noticeable. pulling in our always on seven day we can see satellite and action radar showing a couple things. first off see this line of thundershowers as it progressed through western and central pa, it fell an part during the overnight hours. we're left with a couple sprinkles. this batch of showers near washington is going the head in our area and maybe give our southern zones a sprinkle. lots of cloud cover today. we'll see clouds and sunshine and a chance for a brief spotty shower at any point n allentown mostly cloudy skies, maybe a brief shower and

walk your dog day, did you know that? you have to take bailey out for a walk later on. >> i do. >> pretty nice morning to walk the dog. it's not the nicest morning to go for a drive on 95. as we go not burbs in delaware county we have a major delay on the southbound side coming down from ridley park through this points at the blue route where all the traffic has to funnel into the one southbound left lane to get by the paving work that continues out there. should be clearing shortly but it's not out of there yet so you are seeing substantial delays as you come down 95 away from the airport and head toward the delaware state line. again, i would think about using local alternates like maybe 291, 13, baltimore pike, some roads like that. the bit of good news in this area is that emergency construction work that we had on the ramps that connect 95 with the blue route that has been going on for the last day or so that's gone now so everything is reopened on the ramps. speaking of construction a couple work zones today are going to close portions of route 23 here in schuylkill township, the valley forge road portion is going the close again. this project started monday.
