well, good morning. we begin with friday with the latest on the ebola crisis. >> forty american now infected with the virus. headed back to the u.s. to be treated. doctors say they are optimistic about his prognosis, though. >> and then the intense efforts in dallas to limit the spread of the disease. our coverage begins with susan saul saulny. >> reporter: this morning, another american has tested positive for the ebola virus. this time, a freelance cameraman covering the epidemic for nbc. mukpo will be flown home to the united states. and relatives of the first person diagnosed with ebola on american soil are under armed guard after trying to violate the quarantine. the african man, known as patient zero. >> nobody is inside the

apartment. they are in their apartment. they cannot come out. they are not allowed on the porch. >> reporter: his nephew, joe weeks, said he arrived to attend a family graduation. it was weeks who called the cdc after duncan was sent home despite showing symptoms and admitting he travelled from west africa. >> worries. >> reporter: now in a race to, answer one question, how many might he have infected ? the cdc is tracking a widening circle of 100 people who might be at risk. warnings going by phone to 11,000 residents. >> while this may be concerning, there is no ongoing danger to your health. >> reporter: susan saulny, abc news. another note from dallas, the cleaning of the apartment has been delayed. they don't have the permits to

transport hazardous waste. american airlines is notifying passages and telling them how to contact health officials. they believe that duncan could not have passed the virus since he was not showing symptoms. abc news is covering all the important angles, a full update later on "good morning america." and the other major story this morning, the damage and dangerous weather. >> could be a messy commute in the nation's midsection. take a look at the radar. and in the storm's after math, power was knocked out to hundreds of thousands in north texas. molly hunter now. >> reporter: winds topping 100 miles an hour tore through texas thursday. hitting 106 miles an hour in irving. trees were down across dallas-ft. worth. 280,000 without power. nearby, a roof torn off at

arlington baptist college. streets filled with debris, hail everywhere. and lightning struck this clinic. with thunderstorms comes rain and lots of it. and with the flooding, snakes. rattle snakes spotted in florida. >> all the rain we're having. it's on the move. >> reporter: flight cancellations stacking up, 850 out of chicago. >> since it's san diego non-stop, as long as they could take off, i'm okay. >> reporter: triple digit temperatures and strong winds could mean more wildfires in southern california. >> large fires start small. >> reporter: molly hunter, abc news, new york. extreme heat and severe storms and snow to the upper midwest. >> our conch continues, stef davis at alasccuweatheaccuweath. >> we have the threat for severe weather on friday.

never found his body. a federal appeals court has cleared the way for a restrictive abortion law to be in texas. it would close almost all the abortion facilities in the most populous state. making them have hospital admitting privileges. backers say the law protects the health and safety of women. president obama says he will use executive authority to revamp the immigration policy between election day and the end of the year. he told a group last night he decided to act alone when speaker boehner said he would block it in congress. some have doubted his commitment because of the delay. former president george w. bush is hoping his little brother will follow in his and his father's footsteps. >> he says his brother jeb would make a good president.

report. the labor department may report as many as 215,000 new hires in september. that's up from 142,000 in august. analysts predict little change in the unemployment rate. which could remain around 6.1%. the cyber attack on jpmorgan chase was bigger than thought. 76 million were hacked. and customer data stolen were names, addresses, and e-mail addresses. they use chase.com and jp morgan online and the mobile apps. experts recommend taking a close look for unusual activity. if you see any, alert the bank. no fraud reported as of yet. the mortgage crisis is not over if this guy gets turned down for a mortgage. ben bernanke says his application was refused.

in the air after the motorized platform suddenly stopped working. they were stuck hanging there for two hours and it was 90 degrees out. fire fighters showed up, got down to the guys and got them to the roof for the rescue. >> glad to hear that. morning road conditions, smooth sailing west of mississippi, a rain watch in the east. and flying, delays possible in atlanta, detroit, new orleans and charlotte this evening because of storms and lightning. a new york teenager is dead after colliding with an opponent during a high school football game. making him the third high school player to die in the last week. >> it's drawing attention to the risks young athletes are facing every day. >> reporter: it could be any high school in america, but on long island, hugs and tears after a student died following a punishing hit on the football field. tom coupty nel la suffered a head injury and collapsed.

>> it was a typical football play, a freak accident. >> reporter: helping the community. >> everybody is traumatized by this. all the kids are shaken up. >> reporter: it's a devastating week for the game. since last friday, three high school football players from new york, north carolina and alabama died after playing. two of those deaths came right after hard hits. take a look at this video from a high school football practice. the kids move fast and hit hard. the professionals are vulnerable as well. nfl is in the midst of a nearly billion dollar settlement with retired players over concussion-related injuries. the nfl predicting nearly a third of retired pros will develop brain injuries. the toll taken at football is on the mind for everyone here at the vigil for the student who

died. this is a terrible reminder of how dangerous the sport can be. >> the number of cases of paralysis linked to enterovirus 68 may be on the rise. 28 people stricken by paralysis, most children. that number doubled in one day. the virus may be involved in tour deaths. the cdc has the enterovirus in 46 states and the district of columbia. two stars of the housewives of new jersey have prison time. teresa give due chee was given 15 months. and her husband 3.5 years. they were accused of phoney loan applications. she will report to prison in january, and because they have four daughters, his sentence won't start until hers is done. well, a study out this morning finds that teams who

>> police near atlanta are looking for smash and grab robbers who led them on a chase. they broke in and stole two dozen chain saws and other things. they started hurling chain saws at the squad car, but they ditched the stolen car and vanished. officers were also in hot pursuit of a suspect in los angeles. the man kept going for 90 minutes, driving the wrong way at times and leading police through three counties. at one point he abandoned the truck and tried to jump a fence, but got back in. the driver surrendered after losing control and careening off the field. the game was over. the game is over for one college football team with their sights set on a national championship. number two oregon. they were hosting arizona last night. tied at 24, and the ducking thought they would be getting the ball back.

they sacked arizona's quarterback. >> wait, but an oregon defender was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, and they put it in the end zone. their quarterback fumbled, arizona beats heavily-favored oregon for the second year in a row, 31-24. this is possibly a wild weekend in college football. six games, teams in the top 25. with the new rankings on sunday, a lot different than now. and turn to the pros here. and a fifth-straight week, thursday night football was not worth watching. it produced another blowout. >> last night it was the packers hosting the vikings. it was close until right after the opening kickoff. after that the packers dominated, leading 28-0 at the half. >> the vikings did put up ten points in the fourth quarter. that was too little, too late.
