>> good morning, it is 6:00 a.m. saturday october 4. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." a couple is hospitalized after their minivan rolls over and crashes on a service plaza on i-95 overnight. a teenager is paralyzed after her car crashes along the schuylkill river. it's a rainy, much cooler start to the weekend. will the sun make a return? meteorologist chris sowers joins us with a look at the accuweather forecast. you're making a scrunchy face. >> reporter: it's a showery start to your saturday. not a rainy saturday. every now and then we're seeing an occasional downpour, for the most partly we're seeing showers crossing through.

him that's the view of the philadelphia international airport, you can see the runways wet it's warm with the breeze out of southeast at 15 miles per hour. as you flip it over to storm tracker 6 live double scan you can see the showers out there, every now and then you can see the shades of yellow. every now and then we pick you mean a downpour. 70% of the viewing area is dry this morning. but we're seeing the showers, maybe we're seeing steadier stuff sought there at times. visibility where we are picking up the steadier moisture. 3 miles in allentown, 1.5 in the poconos. 10 miles in philadelphia, millville, 9 dover. atlantic city at the airport, 9 miles per hour as well. we'll see quick changes out there today. by afternoon we'll see lots of sunshine, skies of blue, just a few clouds, mild temperatures. 9:00 a.m., 68 degrees, a couple of showers out there, lunch time, 70. 3:00 p.m., close to 72 degrees, the breeze out of the west. much colder as we head into

tomorrow morning. especially tomorrow afternoon. 30s in the lehigh valley. i'll show you the numbers in future tracker in the seven day when we come back in just a bit. >> a minivan crashes into a parked tractor-trailer at a service plaza. state police say the driver of the minivan lost control traveling north on i-95 at 2:30. the minivan rolled over several times eventually hitting a tractor-trailer that was stopped in the rest area. the couple was trapped inside, both were taken to christiana hospital and expected to be okay. a teenager is lucky to be alive after she was rescued from the mangled wreckage of her car following a crash near the schuylkill river. her life is forever changed by the accident. annie mccormick has the story.

>> reporter: hours after the dramatic crash crews carefully removed the mangled suv that careened toward the schuylkill river trapping the 17-year-old driver inside. >> it was a tight fit. everything smashed around her. she is scared. >> reporter: a nurse happened to be driving by. >> everybody was looking over the railing. >> and you jumped into the action. >> i want down there, and there was another doctor that was running too. monica dod a nurse visiting from new orleans jumped off her bike. >> i saw people trying to help out so i want down to see if anyone needed any help. >> reporter: the driver told the nurses she lost control. police believe the teen was traveling on martin luther king

when her suv did a 180 slamming into the guardrail resting on the banks of the schuylkill. several philadelphia police officers happened to be nearby and fire and marine crews were able to remove her with a ladder and rope before transporting her to the hospital by ambulance. amazingly nobody else was hurt. the 17-year-old was taken here in stable condition. the police confirmed that she was paralyzed from the waste down. accidents investigators say this is an on going investigation. reporting in university city, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> camden county police say someone opened fire on a patrol car. the action cam was at the scene of aerial road in winslow

township, new jersey. an officer was on patrol when a bullet hit the windshield of the patrol car. officers combed the area, but did not find a suspect. a philadelphia synagogue is mourning a member of its congregation who was murdered in his own home. 59-year-old ronald fishman was a cantor in roxborough. his former house guest stabbed him to death during a confrontation in east mount airy. williams is charged with murder and burglary and other offenses. mariah gray was last seen leaving her home back on september 19. last night loved ones handed out flyers with her photo. the 22-year-old is intellectually disabled. she is known to frequent frankford and north philadelphia

and 33rd and diamond. if you see her call police. the defense has the case in a double murder trial involving a baby and her grandmother in montgomery, the accused representing himself. complex. he told detectives where he hid jewelry stolen from the grandmother. he said it was behind a vending machine in his office. raghu yandamuri has recanted the confession, he claims he was forced to participate in the kidnapping scheme by two strangers. >> all we know is the name of matt and josh. that's what he told and mentioned in his opening and that's what's going to pursue in his case. >> reporter: how did these strangers come into his life? >> i don't know. i'm sure he'll complain that -- explain that on monday. >> reporter: detectives searched for the baby hoping to find her alive now finding themselves cross-examined by the accused killer. it has been a gut-wrenching case

for everybody, including the jurors who have been seen crying. >> the only person it's not affecting is the defendant. >> reporter: in norristown, david henry, channel 6 "action news." >> don't expect another septa rail strike at least not right now. but it is possible come february. federal advisory board has been unable to help septa and train years to come to an agreement. that board's term expires on october 13 which could have meant an immediate strike without agreement. septa will look at negotiations and that will push any strike back 3 months. bargaining is expected to resume on monday. >> several people golfed in mcto give back to the families of police officers killed in the line of duty. several members of our 6abc

reporting patchy drizzle and showers. for the skew reporting light rain, dover milford pushing toward the northeast at 15 to 20 miles per hour. the cold front is clearly defined on the water vapor image it's right here, dry air to the west, moist air to the east, showers ahead of it. we're seeing sunshine behind it. it's not a complete wash today, as a matter of fact it will be only from the morning to the mid morning hours and it will start to clear. we're talking about clouds giving way to sunshine by midday. breezy and sharply cooler overnight tonight, temperatures dropping into the 30s, well north and west, i'll have the details in the seven day when i come back in just a bit. >> new this morning, a teenager is in serious condition after being stabbed in the stomach across street from the philadelphia police headquarters. the action cam was at the scene

franklin square park at 8th and rails. investigators say two men confronted the 18-year-old there at 1:30. one of the suspects stabbed the teen. the two men ran off. the wounded teen is at hanheman hospital. police have not made any arrests. a fiery crash killed a person on i-95 it happened at 2:00 a.m. on the southbound lanes of i-95 south of marsh road exit ramp brandywine hundred. the driver ran off the road and hit a tree. the impact caused the vehicle to burst into flames, the driver was trapped inside and killed. >> health officials in new jersey have confirmed that a young boy who died last week tested positive for entrovirus 68. the 4-year-old boy is from mercer county he was went to yardville elementary in hamilton township.

meanwhile, there are two new confirmed cases of entrovirus 68 in new jersey. that runs the total in the state to nine. at children's hospital in philadelphia, three children are hospitalized with what could be the virus. doctors say the patients are suffering with muscle weakness and their mris are showing spinal changes. the hospital has alerted the cdc and more tests are being done. the virus has hit more than 40 states and linked to four deaths. >> might see 3 to 8 children over the course of 12 months. to see three in a short time frame at chop is unusual and that's what other sisters are seeing, as well. >> reporter: doctors still don't know whether the children will ever regain their strength. health officials say the number of people in texas most at risk for contracting ebola has dropped from 100 to 50. those under observation have been contact with liberian

9/11 memorial in delaware county. three administrative buildings were destroyed. the buildings are 2 miles from the memorial site that still under construction. park representatives say they are concerned about the memorabilia and arrest kind -- archival material that was stored in the buildings. the fire is under investigation. the department of veteran's affair is proposing to fire the head of the va health organization in pittsburgh. she is being accused of not handle legionairess disease. the vssments -- the va is recommending removing wolf for conduct unbecoming at that senior executive. what that was is unspecified.

that cooler weather is pushing through pittsburgh, it's close to 70 degrees in philadelphia. washington, d.c. and baltimore reporting 70. rich mondays, 71. charleston to the west, 48. pittsburgh 50, buffalo, 56. that's the leading edge of the cooler air that will charge east over the next 24 hours. we're ahead of the front so we're picking up the southeasterly winds and the cloud cover and showers clearing out by the morning hours. tomorrow afternoon, not that bad, especially for the eagles game, breezy and cooler, dry, high close to 60 degrees. 10:00 we'll see shower activity east of the delaware river. a couple of areas west could see showers, as well. this clears out at lunchtime, 1:00, we're seeing the skies brighten up, the sun will return, it's not a washout, just a couple of hours of dreary weather and things improve by afternoon. as we look ahead this weekend, the overall idea is for cooler
