good afternoon in the news this noon, violent protest ez in the wake of another deadly police shooting in missouri. and the search for parking garage bandits at work in rittenhouse. >> and the big story is a destructive fire that claimed one life at a delaware county assisted living facility for the disabled. the blaze left heavy damage in media. vernon odom is live outside of that facility as investigators begin their search for the cause. >> reporter: officials here at elwin are waiting for the state fire marshals for the official ruling on the investigation into what caused this deadly fire last night. the fire broke out in one resident room. it took about an hour to put it out, and most of the damage was

confined to one room where the only person that perished was living. >> we contained it to one room and we had one fatality. >> when they arrived the elwin staff evacuated the residents to safety. >> they were assisted by state police and we had seven troopers on location that were helping to evacuate the residents. >> elwin has some 225 permanent residents here, they have not released the name of the resident that perished here last night. this is where they house patients over the age of 60. the factors here point to some sort of electrical problem. officials here at elwin, a 162-year-old institution here. they will awaiting the official

evidence in a case against a man accused of murdering a baby and her grandmother. we learned that in the trial of raghunandan yandamuri, one jury had to be replaced. david henry joins us now. >> reporter: the deliberations hit a snag and the jury deliberated for five hours before sending a note to the judge indicating that one of the jurors had become incapacitated for some reason. and this morning the judge replaced her with an alternate juror with no explanation. 28-year-old raghunandan yandamuri, his fate hangs in the balance right now, the jury is zod find him guilty of two counts of first degree murder. that could get him the death penalty. is he accused of killing saanvi

baby bucket list went viral. gave birth this morning but hours later he died. jenna and dan haley posted pictures of his birth and death on their facebook page, prayers for shane. it read today at 6:13 a.m., after meeting his entire family and being baptised into the catholic face, baby shane died in his mother's arms. she learned in the first month of pregnancy that shane had a birth defect affecting his brain. they created a bucket list to make the most of time they had. police are looking for the vandals that left a racial slur on the walls of a catholic school. school maintenance crews quickly removed it and now investigators

are looking at surveillance video for possible clues. tensions are flairing in missouri following another deadly police involved shooting. >> the protest erupted after an off duty officer killed an 18-year-old black man just 20 miles from where michael brown was killed by an officer. he was on patrol for a private security company when he countered four men, they took off and he went in pursuit. hours later a large crowd started demonstrating, kicking police cars and they are investigating the shooting and whether the officer's actions were justified. the health of a spanish nurse battling ebola is

meteorologist, david murphy, over at the big board with the latest. pretty bright out there. in the picture of the ben franklin bridge, high clouds are streaking xroefr head and we have that on satellite and the clouds are thin and high enough to allow sun through. it will be fairly bright over the next several hours, and more of this extra cloud cover from pittsburgh banging in and that could make it more overcast later in the day but mainly bright and pretty. 67 in philadelphia right now, 65 in allentown and 67 in wilmington and 66 in sea isle city, and probably only going to add 2 or 3 degrees to the numbers you see on the board right now. 67 at 2:00 and 69 by 3:00, that is more or less your high, might hit 70 in spots, 68 by 4:00 and mid-60s in the 5:00 to 6:00 period. we have some cloud cover on

school where a student with autism says he was duct taped to a soccer poll. at highlands high school. aust austin devonsack described what happened to him. >> they duct taped my waste to the pool as hard as they could and then they attempted to try to take a picture of it. i told them no and they walked off in frustration, he was freed by an off-duty police officer that found him 15 minutes later. the investigation is ongoing. a north carolina student was pepper sprayed inside of his own home because they thought he was a burglar. he had just returned to his foster parents house when a neighbor called 911.

officers ordered him to put his hands on the door, he asked why and was pepper spray. his foster parents are upset saying everything they worked on with the teenager was stripped away. he says he was losing the popular ride share when he got into an argument about directions with his driver, that is when the driver allegedly attacked him with a hammer. >> the cab came and we got in and the next thing i remember i was in the icu and doctors were working on my left eye. >> what is frightening about this incident is it's an unprovoked and unnecessary attack, felony, assault with a deadly weapon, a hammer. >> he says he is still considering taking legal action against uber, doctors say

nice low number, that indicates dry, crisp air and the winds are blowing around at 15 miles per hour, not as blustery as yesterday. 67 in the city, and 67 in wilmington and 67 increaseding. not too much variation, 65 in allentown and similar numbers in wildwood and the airport in atlantic city. winds in general not as strong as yesterday, we have some areas reporting single digit winds rights now, you feel them jump into the teens and that make its more blustery. the clouds are streaking across, not much to these clouds but out to the west we see thicker stuff and again over the next several hours, it might start to cloud up more. generally the flavor. majority of the day is mostly sunny and that is what we call it in allentown, 68 degrees and down the shore similar situation and perhaps giving way to more cloud cover along the way. and 68 degrees down by the

water. 69 by the water and urban centers hit 70 or 71 and a bit breezy out there with the high clouds, building a bit as the day goes on and building at 16 miles per hour. a few clouds tonight and chilly, 54 is the overnight low, the winds die down to 5 miles per hour. and we'll see the sun mixing with clouds and on the breezy side through the commute. 68 by 4:00 and 65 by 5:30 and we dip by early evening down to 61 degrees, a warm front to the south will encourage the clouds out to the west to continue sliding to the east. 62 will be all we'll see and it will be cloudy and cool tomorrow and there will be showers and sprinkles developing through the day. we might see a little bit of that through the morning and future tracker 6 taking us from dawn until noon. and then you see through the

afternoon we have more rain filling in and there might be a heavier cell that pops through briefly, and honestly we are keeping the idea of damp conditions possible straight into the evening and early saturday morning, the seven day from accuweather, sunny and cooler, and 69 degrees not too bad, clouds in the morning and rain and drizzle and building as the day goes on and we'll get steady rain and 64 is the high there. and probably rain lingering early on saturday morning but it looks like it could be out of here as soon as 8:00 to 10:00 and then improvement. dry for the union at night and the crucial game for the union. bring your sweatshirt. the eagles are probably dry at night on sunday but unsettled early next week.

two men stealing several bikes from residents in center city. now, the details on an exclusive story out of southwest philadelphia, a man says he woke up this morning to find a neighbor stabbing him in his back. authorities say that the suspect suffers from mental illness. chad pradelli is live at 57th and christian with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: rick, really a bizarre story, the stabbing happened this morning at 8:30, here is what police tell me, the suspect lives in the house there with the red siding, he walked down a few doors and went into the home and stabbed him and then left the home. and according to police began threatening children and put the knife to one of their throats. melton ferrier has two puncture wounds in his back, he woke from a deep sleep to his neighbor

standing over him stabbing him. >> i am sleeping and i feel someone stabbing me and i thought it was my wife. >> he fled out of home and doesn't know why his neighbor became so violence. neighbors say that after the attack, the suspect began threatening to stab children while they were waiting for the bus. >> he started terrorizing the neighborhood and it's not safe for our kids. >> the suspect was captured a short time later and it appears he suffers some sort of mental illness. >> crazy, crazy morning, scary scary. >> ferrier was treated at a local hospital and he will be okay. and despite the frightening start to the day he kept his exception of humor. >> and motive is unclear right now, detectives are questioning the suspect as well as

witnesses, and so far the suspect's name has not been released. chad pradelli, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you for that report. police in upper darby has identified miguel esclon, stabbing a man in the neck on market street. superintendant, michael chitwood says that he should be considered armed and dangerous. >> i have detectives and a full-court press searching the area trying to find other areas where he prior lived. >> superintendant chitwood says that investigators are trying to determine what led up to that fight. the victim is in critical condition at the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. >> a juror has been replaced as the deliberations continue for the man accused of killing a baby and her grandmother.

the family of raghunandan yandamuri left the courtroom late last night along with the family of the victims it's been two years since raghunandan yandamuri was accused of killing saanvi venna and her grandmother. investigators underway after a racial slur is found painted on the front door of a high school in philadelphia at the catholic high school in spring garden, someone saw it and called authorities. the slur has been removed. fire investigators are working to figure out the cause of air deadly fire at an assisted living center in delaware county. the blaze broke out at 9:30 last night at the elwin institute in media. one resident was unaccounted for. the fire chief says that person later died from injuries suffered in the blaze xg the

of six bicycles and walked them out one by one. if you recognize the thieves, contact philadelphia police. the candidates for pennsylvania governors are getting some big name support today. hillary clinton will be at independence mall for tom wolf and chris christie will be on the main line for incumbent governor, tom corbett. at their debate last night, corbett accused wolf of trying to be all things to all people. recent polls give wolf a solid lead over corbett. crews are working to fix a water main break that closed a portion of route 100 in chester county, chopper 6 hd was over the scene here at east township line road. crews managed to get the water turned off but the northbound lanes of route 100 are detoured until the repairs can be made
