. making news in america this morning. on edge, a joke about ebola leads a full-blown hazmat response as major airports begin extra screening. and why during this health crisis does the u.s. not have a surgeon general. a second night of protests overnight. a community outraged by another shooting by police of a black teenager. no-show in north korea. but where was the nation's young lead center he hasn't been seen in weeks. is he sick? and the unwelcome visitor making himself comfortable at a police station. well, good morning.

we begin this friday with the global fears about ebola. the head of the cdc said the virus could rival aids in the health crisis. >> someone is making a joke about ebola on board an airliner that triggered a massive response. we have tahman bradley. >> reporter: it was a joke, but no one was laughing. a hazmat team boarded the flight after a passenger sneezed and said he had ebola. another passenger heard and told a flight attendant, and alerted the captain. they were following strict cdc guidelines. >> you never to want see four guys in hazmat suits. >> reporter: there are new cases around the world. in spain, eight doctors and nurses are in isolation. so far only one of the workers has tested positive. six u.s. military planes arrived in west africa to help with the

outbreak. soldiers at fort bragg are getting training ahead of their deployment. >> i was concerned about my health, but not really like this one. i'm concerned about my health. what kind of diseases can i get? >> reporter: u.s. hospitals and airports remain on high alert. starting saturday, john f. kennedy airport will have new processes for those arriving from west africa. and in dallas, good news for the sheriff's deputy rushed to the hospital by pair paramedics in t gear, no ebola. >> the public is safe. carry on with our daily lives. >> reporter: a startling message from the head of the cdc. urging action to prevent ebola from becoming as big as the aids crisis. >> they are handling the u.s.

response, but the u.s. doesn't have a surgeon general, why not? >> we don't have someone because president obama's nominee was blocked by republicans in congress. they thought he was too outspoken. he supports an assault weapons ban. and the nra went after him for that. he was a supporter of obamacare. you could say the top doctor was a casualty of politics. we have an acting surgeon general, but he's kept a low profile. >> thanks so much. breaking overnight, a second night of protests in st. louis following the shooting death of a teenager by an off-duty police officer. in addition to chanting hands up, don't shoot, they were burning american flags. they are demanding justice. the justice department information into the shooting is what they want. happened just miles from where michael brown was killed by a police officer. and the big announcement of norway, who will win this year's

nobel peace prize? they have been tight-lipped, but pope francis among the talked about contenders. malala in the running, the 17-year-old could become the youngest after being shot in the head by the taliban for urging girls to go to school. and buzz over whistle blower edward snowden. and the border town of kobani, chuck hagel says he's appealing to turkey for military help. the u.s. wants to use a turkish base to launch attacks at isis in syria. world leaders watching north korea where the reclusive leader has been out of the public eye for five weeks now. the mysterious absence of kim jong-un is fuel speculation, from his health to a possible coup. he was a no-show today as they celebrated their 69th

anniversary. he is reportedly recovering from a leg injury. after being whipped by a typhoon this week, japan bracing for another bigger storm. look at that. the satellite images give you an idea of the size. it's the biggest storm on earth this year. beginning to weaken as it moves toward okinawa. three american servicemen were washed out to sea in the earlier typhoon. same sex couples walked down the aisle in las vegas. the supreme court effectively made gay marriage legal in three dozen states, including nevada. strict new voter i.d. laws on hold in wisconsin and texas letsz less than a month before election day. it was like a poll tax, deliberately to suppress voter

. stocks opened lower this morning after a big plunge, plunging 345 points, the worst day of the year. asian markets followed suit. it was triggered by a slowdown in the germany economy and concerns about the fed. a 401k worth $90,000 at the

beginning of the month lost $2,000. but there's a silver lining, welcome news for drivers. global oil prices tumbled below the $90 mark for the first time in two years. investors see supplies surpassing demand. the microsoft ceo is under fire and saying women shouldn't ask for a raise and trust the system to play them well. he has apologized, but it underscores challenges for women in the tech world. >> reporter: it plagues the tech industry. a comment by the microsoft ceo wasn't the answer women were looking for. >> it's not really about asking for the raise, but knowing and having faith that the system will actually give you the right raises. >> reporter: that was his answer to a question about whether women should ask their bosses for a raise. he said it would be good karma

to let things play out. >> there was a gueasp. there was an audible intake of breath, did i hear that right? >> reporter: kristina wallace who introduces girls to computer science said she wasn't discouraged. >> i think we left a little bit more, you know, emboldens. it was that moment where what we already believed about the system was confirmed. on stage. in a keynote. >> reporter: that's because tech companies are made up of mostly white and male employees. at microsoft, 29% female, and apple, 20%, twitter, 10%. it's a sensitive topic that dominated social media following his remark. he yiezed. tweeting, was inarticulate how women should ask for raise. close gender pay gap so a raise

is not needed because of a bias. dairy queen has fallen victim to hackers. its payment systems were breached between august and september. the names, credit cards and debit card numbers may have been compromised. about 400 stores across the country were affected. overnight tesla unveiled new features to the $70,000 model s. the system called auto pilot will move the car over one lane when the driver uses the turn signal. it will also use cameras to reach speed limb signs and decelerate accordingly. but it's not the self-driving car. and there is amazon opening a brick and mortar store in manhattan before christmas. it's not clear if it's permanent or a holiday popup. they are not saying. it could function as a warehouse and a showcase for inventory.
