you all. i'm t.j. holmes. >> and i'm tai hernandez. how did a nurse in texas contract ebola? >> she wore protective gear last week. while taking care of eric duncan. we begin with tahman bradley. >> reporter: this morning, the first known transmission of ebola in the united states. a nurse in her 20s who cared for thomas eric duncan has contracted the disease. the hospital says the nurse was wearing full protective gear. somehow, she got infected any way. cdc officials say the woman was exposed due the a breach of protocol at the hospital. she may not be the only person. >> unfortunately, it's possible that we'll see additional cases. >> reporter: the nurse started showing simple stoms on friday and drove herself to the

hospital. one person as a precaution has been placed in isolation. >> definitely, it's scary being in dallas. and then right here. >> reporter: the same hazmat crews that decontaminated the duncan's apartment is cleaning hers. >> reporter: the cdc has issued guidance to the hospitals, some health care workers are confused. >> when the nurses become infected they're blamed for not following the protocols. that is not going to work. >> reporter: this morning, health officials have ruled out ebola for a passenger that became sick on a flight that landed in l.a.x. yesterday and a patient in boston just back from africa. of the 6 patients treated for ebola in the u.s., thomas

eric duncan was the only one not treated at one of the specialized unites around the country. >> this may change the way patients are treated. >> every hospital has to be ready to receive someone with ebola. if they have ebola, they need to think about transferring to one of the four hospitals in america who are trained for this. one in nebraska, one in montana, one in maryland, and one in georgia. this is what they do right. the cdc says they're thinking about a change. i think that's a good idea. >> at one point, dr. besser was the head of the cdc. you'll hear more from him coming up on "good morning america." fay battled bermuda over the week end with 65-mile-per-hour winds. the storm moved out over the ocean -- open ocean and strengthened into a hurricane.

an advancing cold front is expected to neutralize fay later today. much faster south, puerto rico is bracing for tropical storm gonzalo. it's expected to swing out into the open at lactic missing the u.s. east coast. a huge storm system across the midwest. >> some 40 million americans will find themselves in the heart of the storm zone today. accuweather's jim dickey joins us with more. >> one storm is departing bermuda no longer an issue. now we're tracking gonzalo. tracking toward the leeward islands and puerto rico, to hispaniola. likely, it will strengthen, moving into an area that would be favorable for development. it's expected to make a turn to

the north and could impact bermuda in the upcoming weekend. a storm system moving out of texas. headed to oklahoma, and toward the mississippi on the afternoon. gusty winds, large hail, and torrential rain. iraqi leaders are pleading with the united states to send in ground troops. some 50 u.s.-led air strikes against isis positions have failed to stop their advance. america's highest-ranking military leader now admitting the air strikes are not working and that isis is changing tactics. >> the enemy adapts. they'll be harder to target. they know how to maneuver and use populations and concealment. >> general dempsey says he expects to see isis to start firing into baghdad. for now, no immediate plans for

u.s. ground troops in iraq. breaking news overnight. hong kong protests continue. they have blocked main roads and police intervened. older men and taxi drivers called the movement illegal. here at home, more marches are planned today after the weekend protest of a police shooting of a young plaque man in missouri. police arrested 17 demonstrators blocking a convenience store. test results on possible gun powder residue could come back as early as today in the shooting. thousands gathered outside the police station in ferguson. michael brown's mother led a march calling for the arrest of

the police officer that shot her son. ten people were hurt in a ferry accident in san francisco. the boat hit a piling. injuring some passengers. they were taken to the hospital. also in california, hillary clinton got an unpleasant surprise yesterday during a speech in san diego. she was miniyutes into her addrs when a heckler blew a bull horn.
